HHH Gets Second Degree Burns At Wrestlemania 29

hhh burnsWrestling is very dangerous inside the ring, but who knew it was just as dangerous outside the square circle.

Former WWE champion and current WWE executive champion HHH faced Brock Lesnar this past Sunday in the co-main event of Wrestlemania 29. If you were watching the event, you noticed that HHH had a white substance on his body walking out to his match against Lesnar. We now know what that substance was.

The substance was dry ice and caused second degree burns to the superstar. HHH tweeted a pic earlier today which you can see to the right of the burns on his body.

Thankfully HHH is ok.

Randy Orton Forgets His Lines on Monday Night Raw

The most important thing about being an actor is remembering your lines. It looks like someone didn’t tell that to former WWE Champion Randy Orton. The former champion appeared in a segment on Monday Night Raw this past Monday with another former WWE champion, Sheamus. Orton and Sheamus are in the ring doing a promo. You can hear in the video below of Orton forgetting his lines and asking Sheamus what his line was.

This is the one thing that has been wrong with the WWE. You can tell when a promo feels forced and the performers act like they are reading off a cue card. What do you think? Should a promo be given to the talent and be told to just hit the bullet points? Or should the talent memorize word for word of what to say?

UFC Releases Code of Conduct Policy

The UFC is the biggest MMA organization in the world today. It is the NFL, NBA and MLB all rolled into one. What those three major sporting leagues had that the UFC didn’t was a code of conduct policy. With the organization now having over 400 fighters, the fighters are bound to get into trouble. They are human beings mind you.

The organization’s attorney Lawrence Epstein earlier this year released the code of conduct policy. The policy is in place so if fighters do things like commit serious crimes or make crude remarks, things of that nature, they are subject to discipline.

We wrote a piece yesterday regarding UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione making crude remarks against transgender fighter Fallon Fox on Monday. The UFC later on Monday suspended Mitrione’s contract due to those remarks. People hear news like this and wonder what is actually in the UFC’s Code of Conduct Policy.

The UFC released the policy last night to Yahoo Sports exactly what is in the policy, which you can see above. The Yahoo Sports report staes that the UFC policy was created with the help of Washington D.C law firm, Covington & Burling. The law firm also did a similar policy like the NFL and MLB.

Read the policy above and give us your thoughts. Will the policy make fighters more aware and not commit serious crimes, will it curtail things like PED usage? Only time will tell.

The Ultimate Fighter Final Episode Results, Finals Set

tufsThe Ultimate Fighter® returned to FX on Tuesday night, with the final episode of its seventeenth season, featuring two semifinal elimination fights. New Yorker Uriah Hall and Kelvin Gastelum of Yuma, Ariz. secured their berths in the final and moved within reach of a lucrative contract with the UFC and a brand new Harley Davidson.

The episode opens up inside a Las Vegas Harley-Davidson shop for some “boot camp.” Since the winning fighter and his coach will receive a fully-loaded motorcycle, the remaining guys learn a few pointers and pick out a dream bike. Not certain which model he’d like, Chael Sonnen at least assures us that it will be black. We also learn that pretty much every guy in the final four has never ridden a motorcycle before, so what’s the worst that could happen? Speaking of calculated risks, everyone tells Uriah Hall that he looks good in a fedora.

Josh Samman vs. Kelvin Galstelum
Things immediately transition to the first semifinal fight between Josh and Kelvin. Josh has his usual confidence and Kelvin again flies under the radar. Adam Cella thinks that Josh wins easily while Coach Chael says, “[Kelvin’s] not great at anything. His biggest strength is that he’s effective.” Before you know it, it’s fight time.

The fight starts with a short feeling-out process. After Kelvin nails Josh with a 1-2, Josh rushes in and finds himself in a bodylock. Kelvin drags him to the ground and begins working from full guard. Josh throws up an armbar attempt; Kelvin defends and tries to pass. This gives Josh an opening and he stands up, forcing Kelvin against the fence. They exchange a few knees and Kelvin reverses positions. Josh attempts a hip toss, but Kelvin ends up on top. From half-guard, Kelvin starts dropping short elbows and stiff punches. Josh stays active on his back and tries to escape, but Kelvin suffocates him with hip control and ground-and-pound. Kelvin advances to side mount and Josh tries to use the small opening to escape. He gives up his back in the process and Kelvin locks in the rear naked choke. Josh quickly taps and Kelvin Gastelum is heading to the finals!

Jon Jones is obviously disappointed and calls it a “tough fight to watch.” Josh characteristically finds a way to compliment himself in defeat. Kelvin is all smiles and even busts out his Tony Montana impression.

Dylan Andrews vs. Uriah Hall
There’s a quick transition to the second semifinal match between Dylan and Uriah. Chael Sonnen can’t seem to find enough positive things to say about Hall. He talks about how much talent and skill Uriah possesses. He even says that Hall could beat middleweight champion Anderson Silva (though he won’t actually say the Spider’s name). It must be difficult for the other guys sitting there — they have to listen to their coach go on and on about how much better their teammate is than they are. Then again, Chael also taught them that emotions are fake so they should pretty much be numb by now.

On the Team Jones side, Dylan is receiving a pep talk from his assistant coach and father figure Stonehorse Goeman. Dylan then lets us in on what a Dana White congratulatory speech sounds like…I think. There were too many bleeps for the sentence to be coherent. Dylan makes the ill-fated Rocky comparison, Dana White enjoys an energy drink and it’s time for the second fight.

The first round begins with the two trading jabs, which Uriah wins handily. Dylan tries a looping hook to get in and tie Uriah up, but he’s easily brushed aside. Uriah throws some spinning stuff that misses, and Dylan appears much too tentative. Hall engages whenever he wants, while Dylan is too focused on defending to get anything offensive going. He finally lands a solid counter right, but does not follow it up. Hall continues to land kicks and tears up Dylan’s legs. He switches things up with a spin kick to the body. Hall is completely controlling the fight, but does not want to get involved in prolonged engagements. This pattern continues until the round ends.

In the corners, Chael has his usual lofty praise for Hall. Jon Jones tells Dylan, “You’re doing a lot of waiting,” and pushes him to step things up.

Uriah opens up the second round with a glancing head kick. He starts backing Dylan down and continues to pop his jab. It looks like Dylan’s nose may be broken. Despite this, he throws a big right hand and attempts a takedown. Hall easily brushes him again. Dylan keeps touching his face, so odds are that his nose is broken. Uriah keeps pumping that jab as Dylan tries to answer with big looping punches. Finally Dylan gets a tie-up and pushes Uriah against the fence. Dylan keeps working and finally brings Hall to the ground. He can’t relax since Uriah immediately locks up a kimura. Unable to get his arm free, Dylan keeps punching Uriah in the body to no avail. Hall releases the hold, starts punching from the bottom, rocks Dylan and uses that to sweep. Once on top, Uriah rains down punches, Dylan turtles up, and the ref jumps in to stop it.

Dana praises Uriah Hall for taking his time (no, really!) and picking his opponent apart. He also says it’s the first time he’s seen someone score a TKO from the bottom position. It’s bittersweet for Dylan. He’s disappointed that he lost, but he’s happy to going back home to his family. Jon Jones tries to wrap the season up and describe his opinion of Chael Sonnen. He even goes far enough to say that he respects Chael, but then immediately retracts the statement. Team Darkside teammates Kelvin and Uriah have what Dana White describes as “the worst faceoff ever,” and that’s it for TUF 17!

And now there are only two fighters left.

The Latest Injury Update on The Rock

the rockWe had an article yesterday on former WWE Champion Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson reporting that he had left the New York area where Monday Night Raw was atand headed to Los Angeles. It was also reported that Johnson suffered some type of abdominal injury and didn’t notify anyone in WWE that he had left the area, which caused backstage chaos and forced several re-writes to the show.

We do have an update on the injury to Johnson and wrestling again courtesy of The Wrestling Observer:

As noted earlier, The Rock legitimately suffered torn abdominal and abductor muscles and suffered a hernia during his match with John Cena at WrestleMania 29 last Sunday. Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Live that the Rock did in fact notify the company about the injury. It may be a case of a lot of people not knowing what was going on while the show was re-written yesterday, which led to word getting out that he had bolted home without telling anyone.

The Rock immediately flew to Miami yesterday to get the injury checked out. Meltzer noted that the muscle was completely torn off the pelvis, and that it was a bad tear that may require surgery.

If he does need surgery, that would put off filming for his upcoming movie, Hercules, for the time being. The Rock was scheduled to leave shortly to Hungary and Croatia to film the movie, in which he is playing the title role. This is a big deal, as the movie is a major project co-produced by Paramount and MGM with Brett Ratner (The Rush Hour series, Tower Heist) slated to direct. It was scheduled to release during the key summer movie season of 2014. This more than explains the urgency of Rock wanting to get the injury checked out. Rock has been preparing for the role for a while, and has expressed his excitement for the project during several media interviews. There is also another Hercules movie in production, Hercules 3D, that was already planning to beat Ratner’s movie into theatres by five months.

This also will undoubtedly put pressure on The Rock to stop wrestling. The movie studios have big money riding on him with these projects, and there was always the fear of Rock getting injured during a match. Since he started getting lead roles in 2002, he had managed to stay injury free with his matches, which likely put execs at ease. The only injury he had sustained during that time was rupturing his Achilles tendon in 2006, however that was during the filming of The Game Plan and not during a match. Even so, the injury delayed that project.

Obviously WWE fans want to Johnson back in the squared circle. Do you think that happens?

The UFC Suspends Matt Mitrione For Comments On Fallon Fox

mitrioneMatt Mitrione was having a pretty good couple days until late Monday.

The UFC announced Monday evening that they were suspending Mitrione’s contract for his remarks regarding Fox. The transgender fighter has made a headlines in the last month after SI.com reported that she had transgender surgery in 2006 in conjuntion with supplemental hormonal therapy.

Mitrione was on the “The MMA Hour” discussing his victory over Phillip De Fries at UFC on Fuel TV 9 on Saturday, then started to discuss Fox. Mitrione called Fox a “lying, sick, sociopathic, disgusting freak.” The heavyweight also called Fox on numerous occasions throughout the interview as “he and him”.

The UFC implemented at the beginning of this year a code of conduct for all of their fighters under contract. Here is the statement the UFC released regarding the suspension of Mitrione’s contract:

“The UFC was appalled by the transphobic comments made by heavyweight Matt Mitrione today in an interview on ‘The MMA Hour,’” the statement read. “The organization finds Mr. Mitrione’s comments offensive and wholly unacceptable and – as a direct result of this significant breach of the UFC’s code of conduct – Mr. Mitrione’s UFC contract has been suspended and the incident is being investigated. The UFC is a friend and ally of the (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community, and expects and requires all 450 of its athletes to treat others with dignity and respect.”

Fox has a record of 5-0 as a professional and amateur fighter with all five wins coming in the first round. But controversy has been centered around her potential opponents and whether they’re entering into fair fights with her.

BetweenTheRopes has tried to reach out to Mitrione and his team, but no comment has been returned as of this writing.

Report: The Rock Not at Monday Night Raw and Planned Angles Scrapped

the rockDwayne “The Rock” Johnson says he came back to wrestling for the people. Well the man who calls himself. “The People’s Champion” has left the people.

According to a report in The Wrestling Observer, without telling anybody Johnson is not at WWE Monday Night Raw as scheduled.

The Observer states that the WWE was planning to shoot the main event angle for Wrestlemania 30 tonight with Johnson and Brock Lesnar. There is right now “absolute panic” backstage and rewriting the show as we speak.

PWInsider.com is reporting that Johnson was set open tonight’s Raw discussing his WWE Title loss to John Cena last night Wrestlemania 29. Lesnar and then Paul Heyman were going to confront Johnson and lay him out setting up the angle for Wrestlemania 30 on April 6,2014. PWInsider also confirms that Johnson flew to Los Angeles, catching the company by total surprise and generating heat backstage.

Update:

According to The Wrestling Observer, Johnson suffered an injury last night in the match with Cena. The severity of injury is not known at this current time.

That doesn’t seem to be a good reason to skip out on the show as all Johnson would have had to likely do is talk and at the worst take one or two bumps. We will be providing more updates as more comes to us.
