It didn’t take Nick Newell long to find a new home.
The lightweight fighter has signed an exclusive multi-fight deal with the World Series of Fighting. No word on when Newell will be making his debut with the promotion, but a summer date has been targeted.
Newell (9-0 MMA), who fights with one arm has become a name in the sport in a short amount of time. He got his break fighting in the XFC promotion winning the XFC lightweight title against Eric Reynolds in December.
Things between the XFC and Newell became heated when contract talks hit a snag. After Newell didn’t agree to a contract extension, the XFC stripped Newell of the belt. That allowed Newell to become a free agent leading to his signing with World Series of Fighting.
“Nick Newell is an incredible individual who exemplifies the sheer strength of the human spirit and the kind of courage and determination that martial arts embodies, so we are naturally thrilled to welcome him to the World Series of Fighting roster, and look forward to having him compete and, hopefully inspire, our national audience on NBC Sports Network,” said World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo.
