Wrestling was pulled out seven months ago in a surprising move. But, today’s vote by the International Olympic Committee gave it the go-ahead to be allowed back in. It beat a combined baseball-softball bid, and squash. TNA’s own Kurt Angle has been one of the big names promoting Olympic wrestling in recent months, and his “Save Olympic Wrestling” campaign has featured prominently on Impact Wrestling. Over 8,000 fans signed the petition to bring Olympic Wrestling back.
It’s worth noting that there might be a few changes to help modernize the sport. These include possible attire modifications, better visual effects/production values, and a different colored mat. These will eventually be decided on by the international governing body (FILA).
