UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones keeps on breaking barriers in terms in sponsorship deals. Jones’ management team, First Round Management announced in a press release that Jones has agreed to deal with the most popular sports drink in the world, Gatorade.
The press release also stated that Jones will have the Gatorade logo on his shorts this Saturday when he defends his light heavyweight championship at UFC 165 against Alexander Gustafsson.
“It’s great that a company like Gatorade sees the value that their products bring to MMA athletes,” Jones stated. “They’re one of the biggest brands in sports worldwide, and I am honored to have their support moving forward. It does not get any better than Gatorade when it comes to fueling your body, during training and competition.”
Jones signed another monumental deal last year when he became the first MMA fighter to land worldwide deal with Nike. Jones’ manager Malki Kawa stated in the press release that the Gatorade deal is another landmark deal for MMA fighters.
“This is a historic day for UFC competitors,” Kawa stated. “Gatorade is one of the most recognized brands in the world. Jon has earned this relationship through hard work, determination and pure dominance inside the octagon.”
Gatorade first came out in the 1960’s and started to become the leader in sports drink in the 1980’s due to the deal the company signed with basketball legend Michael Jordan. In the United States, Gatorade accounts for a reported 75 percent of the sports drink market.
