anthony pettis

Anthony Pettis will have to wait on making his first title defense as UFC lightweight champion. It was announced on “Fox Sports Live” on Fox Sports 1 that Pettis has suffered a knee injury and is out of his UFC on Fox 9 main event fight with Josh Thomson.

Pettis won the lightweight title against Benson Henderson at UFC 164 in August. The Wisconsin native was originally was supposed to face T.J. Grant at the event, but Grant is still suffering the effects of a concussion suffered in June. That was when the UFC replaced Grant with Thomson, who had an impressive return to the UFC when he defeated Nate Diaz at UFC on Fox 7 in April.

UFC on FOX 9 will take place on Saturday December 14 from the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California.
