Steve Austin Thinks CM Punk Leaving The WWE “Is The Real Deal”

Steve Austin and CM Punk have a lot in common besides being top WWE stars in the past and present. Punk has been the talk of the wrestling world this week as he left the WWE on Monday. Austin did the same thing in June of 2002, but came in February of 2003 for a short run before being forced to retire due to spinal stenosis.

The WWE Hall of Famer was on the Arsenio Hall last night and the Punk situation was brought up.

“So C.M., I think he was backed against the corner, got a little frustrated, and he took his ball and went home,” Austin told Hall. “I think one of two things will happen. I think Vince will fly down there to Chicago or wherever he is and work some Jedi mind tricks and convince him to come back or maybe he will think through the process and he’s got a lot of years left in the tank and never leave money on the table when you can go ahead and make that money. It don’t matter what happens, they keep sending little gimmicks in the mail and they’re called bills and you must pay your bills.

“I consider Punk a very good friend and I know he probably really is going through a lot of stress and I wish him well. I think it is the real deal, but I would like to think he will come back, but he is a pretty hardheaded young man so we will see what happens. Bad timing because you’ve got WrestleMania 30 going down in the Superdome so that’s going to be a good payday and a good ride to make.”

WWE Takes Away CM Punk Signs At NXT Tapings

CM Punk left the WWE on Monday before the start of Raw. The impact of Punk being gone is already taking effect with the fans. The WWE taped episodes of NXT last night in Winter Park, Florida.

PWInsider.com is reporting that before the tapings began, there were a ton of CM Punk chants and before the taping was about to begin, WWE was telling people to chant “NXT” and instead the fans were chanting for Punk. The website is also reporting that any signs mentioning CM Punk were being taken away by security.

So the fun begins apparently.

TNA Impact Wrestling Spoilers For Tonight’s Show, New Investor Comes Out

Impact Wrestling

TNA taped tonight’s edition of Impact Wrestling at The Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. You can watch the show tonight on Spike TV starting at 9 p.m. ET. Here is what took place at the tapings.

-Magnus and Rockstar Spud headed to the ring for a promo. Magnus got some great heel heat. Though it could be that he’s English. He said he saw off Sting like he did Jeff Hardy and AJ Styles. He spoke about “thinning of the herd” by Dixie, ridding TNA of the dinosaurs to make way for the new stars like Bro-Mans, Zema Ion, Spud, and Magnus. He said he singlehandedly eliminated the above faces. EC3 took exception to that.

-They were interrupted by Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle. Angle and Joe came out to huge reception. The heels exited. Angle was super over. He said they were there to avenge the “screwing of the herd”. He said Magnus is a paper champion. Loud “paper champion” chant. He said he regrets accepting Magnus into the Main Event Mafia.

-Magnus said he’s a somebody and Kurt can’t accept that he’s champion. Joe said they’ve come to Glasgow to fight, and a tag match was set with Angle and Joe vs. Magnus and EC3. Magnus issued the challenge. If heels win, then Angle and Joe are gone! Joe suggests that whoever pins Magnus gets a title shot. Hot opening.

-Hold on. Dixie Carter the match isn’t happening. Magnus wasn’t happy. Dixie said there’s too much going on with the investor arriving and she can’t risk him losing the title to Angle or Joe. Magnus made the match anyway. That seemed a bit confusing.

-We can hear but not see what’s happening backstage. That was a mess. Something about the Wolves waiting for the investor to arrive?

-Velvet Sky and Madison Rayne beat Gail Kim and Lei’D Tapa. Velvet pinned Gail clean. Very short match.

-Chris Sabin came out berating Velvet, saying he hadn’t heard from her since last week. He suggested she’s gone crazy due to PMS. He demanded an apology and a massage. Loud no chants! Velvet said, “We’re done!”.

-Ugh. The video screen seems screwed. Audio but no visual. Kurt was threatening someone not to interfere tonight. Sounded like Bobby Roode.

-James Storm was super over. He detailed his history with Gunner before it fell apart and called him out so he could put an end to it. Gunner said they both had a goal to be great, and they achieved that as a team and that when he won the briefcase something changed. He said he had to make a decision for his family, and Storm would have done the same. He said he learned in the Marines that you don’t fight for the government, you fight for the man standing beside you. Storm said he knows Gunner is a great man and a hell of a wrestler. He said his kids are most important thing, and his daughter asked him why he’s mad at Gunner. He said he has Gunner’s back. They shook hands.

-Bad Influence came out to cause trouble. Daniels said James Storm is a liar who wants beer, attention, and ugly fat women. And the TNA title. He challenged them to a tag match with the briefcase at stake.

-James Storm and Gunner defeated Christopher Daniels and Kazarian. Gunner pinned Kaz clean and it looked like he and Gunner are an item again.

-There was more backstage footage that we couldn’t see. Dixie sounded upset with Spud and demanded that he find out who the investor is.

-You Me At Six are at ringside. I don’t know who they are, but seemingly they have the no. 1 album in the UK… With the top tier curtained off, this is a full house for the tickets they did sell. Very impressive. I don’t know how much that tier holds, but I’d guess we’re talking in the ball park of somewhere between 4,000-8,000 attendance.

-Very long break here. Wish I’d gone to the bar! Spud came out to break the monotony. I never thought I’d say that. He heeled up the Scotland-England rivalry, which got the crowd going. He said he was there to find out who the investor is. He called out the Wolves. Spud complimented them on wearing their dad’s best suits and then asked who the investor is. Silence. He interrogated them “like Magnum PI” and reminded them that he’s Dixie’s Chief of Staff. Spud was actually hilarious. Spud slapped one of them as he went crazy. The suit jackets came off and the Wolves attacked Spud. They told Spud to tell Dixie that she’ll find out who the investor is later. They said that the investor is very interested in the main event, and any wrestler who interferes will be fired.

-Video screen is finally working! EY/Abyss recap.

-Bro-Mans beat Abyss and Eric Young by DQ to retain the TNA Tag Titles. I hate both these acts, but the crowd loved Abyss. Abyss was DQ’d for attacking the referee. He chokeslammed EY after the match. The whole match was basically telling the story of EY’s struggle to control Abyss. EY said they have one experiment left – they’re going to get crazy. “I invented crazy!” Monsters Ball next week.

-Backstage the Wolves were standing by a people carrier. I guess the investor is here. Someone was shown pushing a coffin. It appeared to be Bully Ray.

-There was a video detailing some kind of encounter between Sam Shaw and Christy at his home. I think he pulled a strand of her hair then disappeared into a darkened room while she got them some wine. The lights were turned on and it was some sort of shrine to Christy with photographs everywhere.

-Bully Ray came to the ring while pushing the coffin down the ramp. He outlined his past as President of Aces and Eights and TNA champion, and spoke about how Anderson took it all away. He said he tried to break Anderson’s neck, but he keeps coming back. Ray challenged Anderson to a coffin match. Anderson walked down to the coffin. Bully Ray had left the ring and they both stood over it. Anderson asked him what happens after Ray puts him in the coffin. “Maybe I’ll piledrive your wife and kids.” Man! Anderson said he is sick of Bully’s talking; says he’ll do the fans a favour and shut his mouth. “By the way, my wife and kids say hi.” Anderson attacked Bully. They went to the ring and Anderson had a chair. Bully chickened out and left.

-There was some backstage tension between Magnus and EC3. Magnus said he’s not thrilled about tagging with a green rookie in such a big match. Magnus told him to go and cry to aunt Dixie. Dixie walked in and Magnus changed his tune.

-Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle defeated Magnus and Ethan Carter III. Joe made Magnus tap, meaning Joe is the No. 1 contender for the TNA Title per the match stipulations. Another clean finish! Is this really TNA?! Favourite insult of the night from a Glaswegian to Magnus: “Away back to Gladiators, Magnus!” Another interjects: “You were a shite Gladiator!”

-Dixie went ballistic. Joe reminded Magnus that he is now number one contender. There was a loud “you tapped out” chant. “Shine my belt son, cause Joe’s gonna kill you!” Angle said that nights like these make the pain worthwhile. Kurt hyped his HOF induction for London.

Dixie demanded the investor show his face. The arena went dark and…It’s MVP! It appears the show goes off the air here.

CM Punk Critical Of WWE Creative And Lack Of Long Term Thinking

It has been a little more than 24 hours since news broke that CM Punk has left the WWE right before the Raw tapings and headed home to Chicago. Punk hasn’t spoken since the news came, but we have been getting more and more reasons why he was unhappy with the company. On Friday, Punk was in Portland, Oregon for a Comic-Con appearance and did a fan Q&A. About two minutes into the video, which doesn’t state the question, Punk answers the question as it seems to be about what he would like to see back in wresting.

“I would like it to go back to being less writers, more of a booker with long-term planning and ideas,” Punk said.

A fan asks Punk, “Where you build your own characters?”

“Not necessarily that, just an idea of where your going instead of where every week is like what we doing and how like, ah they (WWE) don’t remember that, that was two ago,” Punk said. “And just dropping stuff at the slightest notion that it’s not working or having no real plan of what your doing. Like instead, their (WWE) worrying about WrestleMania now. If it was my company, I would have that all settled and would be worrying about WrestleMania 31. But there’s the long-term booking and planning that hasn’t existed in quite some time.”

A fan brought up how when ECW was around and they built up the long awaited Sabu vs Taz match for their first pay-per-view, Barely Legal.

“Long-term booking, wow what an idea,” Punk said. “It actually takes something to build it up and not hotshot it and do it three months in a row, right.”

CM Punk’s Latest Pipe-Bomb is Friendly Fire

CM Punk Kendo Stick

Let the ranting and raving begin.

At some point last night, news broke that CM Punk wasn’t just off from Monday Night Raw this past week – he actually walked out of the company. Punk told people he was “going home” or some other such nonsense. And he left WWE. Done.

We don’t know the real story here, or what finally pushed Punk over the edge enough to just walk-out before Raw. What we do know is that he’s been pulled from all upcoming advertising. This includes house shows, Elimination Chamber, and even the grandaddy of ‘em all, Wrestlemania, where he was penciled in going one-on-one with Triple H. CM Punk also revealed late last week that his contract was signaled to end this coming Summer, and that negotiations hadn’t even started. [Read more...]

Report: CM Punk Left WWE Over Batista, WrestleMania

cmpunktmzTMZ Sports is reporting that CM Punk walked out of WWE on Monday night before Raw and went home after being upset about his role for WrestleMania XXX and Batista being put in a main-event position.

According to the report, Punk was upset when he learned that Batista was going to win the Royal Rumble which would earn him a championship match at WrestleMania XXX.   It goes on to say that “he feels Batista isn’t in great wrestling shape and shouldn’t be featured in the title match at the upcoming WrestleMania (the biggest event of the year).”

Punk was said to be very upset when he learned that he would be facing Triple H at WrestleMania and would not be in the title match, a match he felt he earned from his work over the past year.

His being upset goes along with a ProWrestling.net story that CM Punk voiced his displeasure with about Batista being in the championship match at WrestleMania XXX at the Wizard World convention in Portland Oregon last Friday, two days before the Royal Rumble.

Punk was said to be very frustrated with his current role and the current WWE direction, not only regarding himself but that the company was not doing more with Daniel Bryan as well.

WWE Smackdown Spoilers For Friday January 31, 2014

The WWE held their Smackdown tapings last night in Toledo, Ohio. The show will air on Friday night on the SyFy channel starting at 8 p.m. ET. Here is what happened at the tapings.

The Shield started off in the ring bickering. Seth Rollins talked down Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns. They focused on the Wyatt Family. They issued a challenge to the Wyatt’s. Vickie Guerrero came out to Vickie heat. She started to book the match only to be interrupted by Triple H. Hunter tried to dissuade The Shield from going after the Wyatt’s. The Shield demanded Triple H book them in a match against The Wyatt Family at Elimination Chamber. Triple H complied “if that’s what you want.”

-Antonio Cesaro beat Dolph Ziggler in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match. Pretty basic Ziggler match. Cesaro did the swing but only six or seven revolutions.

-Fandango beat Xavier Woods. It was an actual match even though it had dance off written all over it. Woods entered with the Funkadactyls and R-Truth. Truth cleared Fandango post match and the faces danced while Woods sold his injuries. Woods has inherited the full Brodus Clay entrance…weird.

-Ryback and Curtis Axel beat The Prime Time Players. Fast match. Young was in the whole time. O’Neil looked at Young in disgust post match. Titus gave the “I’m a loser by association” talk and then beat down Young. Prime Time appears to be done.

-The Wyatts offered a warning to The Shield via video. I can’t do it justice but it was good. Luke Harper spoke; first time I’ve heard that.

-Christian defeated Jack Swagger in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match. Not a huge reaction for a returning Christian. Good back and forth match. Zeb got in Swagger’s face post match and gave him an ear full. Tension builds between the 2.

-Kofi Kingston defeated Damien Sandow. Nothing special and I was distracted by everyone in my section buying a pizza from the concession guy.

-Cody Rhodes beat Road Dogg. The Outlaws did the full entrance routine. The crowd played along. Goldust accompanied Cody. The brothers cleared the Outlaws post match. There was no friction between Cody and Goldust.

-The Shield defeated Daniel Bryan, Sheamus, and Rey Mysterio. Roman Reigns won by pinning Mysterio. Reigns destroyed Rey with a spear as Rey was going for the 619. Good action through out. Very fast passed hard to recall all the moments. Bryan was hot every time he entered the match. The Shield, Sheamus, and Rey cleared the arena and taping appeared to end.

CM Punk Walks Out on WWE

cmpunk2014WWE superstar CM Punk has reportedly left the company and his status with the company remains uncertain.

Punk was at the building in Pittsburgh for Raw on Monday night and had a  conversation with Vince McMahon, telling him that he was going home which is why he was not included on the television show.

Both WrestlingObserver.com and ProWrestling.net have reported the story.

It is still not certain why exactly CM Punk left the company, especially just a few months before WrestleMania XXX where he was expected to square off in a major match against Triple H.

CM Punk has been pulled from all advertising on upcoming events on WWE.com.

There had already been speculation regarding CM Punk’s status with the WWE since his current contract expires in July.  Punk nearly did not re-sign three years ago but agrees to the new deal.  Many times, he has talked about being burned out and in a recent interview with Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com, he admitted that he has yet to have any discussions about a new deal and that he isn’t sure whether he wants to remain with the company.

With Punk leaving the company for the time being, that leaves a hole in the WrestleMania XXX lineup.  Jason Powell of ProWrestling.net is reporting that the WWE has already made a change with Daniel Bryan now slated to square off against Triple H at the April 6th event.

Thoughts about CM Punk leaving the company for now – share them in the comments section below.

Dana White On The WWE Network Airing PPV’s: “It’s Ridiculous”

WWE Network Blue

The UFC debut their online digital network called “Fight Pass” at the beginning of this month. Then about three weeks ago, the WWE announced that they will be debuting the WWE Network digital network starting on Monday, February 24th. Each network will cost $9.99, but with the WWE Network you have to buy it six months at a time instead of paying for it monthly.

Fans of both products have made the correlation between the UFC and WWE product. You can make that case for sure considering UFC fans are WWE fans and vice versa.

UFC president Dana White has been repeatedly asked about the WWE Network at various UFC shows and has been complimentary in wishing the WWE luck with their network.

During a media luncheon yesterday to promote UFC 169 that takes place on Saturday night, White was asked about whether Fight Pass will ever air live pay-per-views like the WWE will be doing.

“It’s ridiculous. I hate to sound like I’m attacking the WWE or de-value what they did because Vince McMahon, say whatever you want and he’s always smashing us and talking s—t about us, but I will tell you this – I was watching WWE I was a little kid and Vince was the commentator in WWE. This guy has been kicking ass, breaking rules and doing things that people said he couldn’t do over and over and over again. Now I’m older I don’t get the whole thing, it doesn’t work for me, but what he’s able to do, the ratings he’s able to pull and the things he’s done and when I look at his model and he’s basically taking everything in and de-valued it. Saying everything we do is worth $10. That doesn’t make sense to me,” White said during a media luncheon on Monday.

“If he pulls in 2 million subscribers, he’s crushing it. So it’s a risky move, it’s a crazy move, but Vince has been doing risky, crazy s—t since the beginning of time. If anybody can do it, maybe Vince can do it.”
