UFC Fight Night 34 Results: Tarec Saffiedine Defeats Hyun Gyu Lim In Entertaining Main Event


The last time we had seen Tarec Saffiedine in the cage, he fought under the Strikeforce banner winning the welterweight title in the final card for the promotion in January of 2013. Questions were surrounding Saffiedine heading into his long anticipated UFC debut against Hyun Gyu Lim.

Round 1

The fight begins without both fighters not touching gloves. Both circling the cage in the opening moments of the fight to gauge distance. Saffiedine starts with a leg kick and a punch and another leg kick. Lim with a two punch combination and a moment later throws a knee.  Lim blocks a knee and throws a right hand that drops Saffiedine, who gets up a moment later. Saffiedine throws a leg kick and a double jab.

Lim throws a leg kick and an uppercut but Saffiedine lands as well. Lim throws a right hook and a knee and a moment later a right hand. Lim throws a right and left hook and Saffiedine comes back with a left hand and the round ends.

Round 2

Both guys trade shots to start the round and saffieidne throws a inside leg kick. Lim lands a left hook and Saffiedine lands two overhand right hands that staggers Lim. Lim lands a jab, but Saffiedne counters with a left hook. Saffiedine lands another leg kick. Both guys trading on the inside with no advantage. Saffiedine throws an overhand right but Lim lands an uppercut. Another right hand for Saffiedine.

Round 3

Round starts with another leg kick by Saffiedine. A punch/kick combination by Lim. an overhand right by saffiedine drops Lim, who gets right back up. Saffiedine lands a takedown but Lim reverses and tries a heel hook, but Saffieidne takes Lim’s back, who gets back up. A punch/kick combination by Saffiedine buckles Lim’s leg and Saffiedine gets in Lim’s guard.

Saffiedine throwing elbows on the ground and referee Leon Roberts calls for a standup. Another two leg kick by Saffiedine drops Lim and Saffiedine who thought he won the fight and the round ends.

Round 4

Each guy comes out trading shots as Lim on one leg is throwing punches to no effect. Saffiedine is throwing leg kicks to Lim’s bad leg and mixing it up with knees to the body. Saffiedine lands a flying knee that drops Lim. Saffiedine trying for a submission by trying to get Lim’s back, but sits in side controle and now back to mount ad takes Lim’s back again.

Saffiedine landing ground and pound punches on Lim toward the end of the round.

Round 5

Lim comes out in a blaze of glory throwing uppercuts and hooks to try and finish the fight, but saffiedine comes back with a couple leg kicks that buckles Lim’s leg. Saffiedine circling the cage, looking at the clock. Saffiedine lands a leg kick that buckles Lim and then a high kick. Saffieidne lands a jab and circling the cage and then a body kick. Lim lands a left hand and a knee. Lim land a right hand that buckles Saffiedine and Lim comes trying to throw knees and punches to finish the fight, but time expires.

Tarec Saffiedine defeats Hyun Gyu Lim by unanimous decision (49-46, 48-47×2).
