The MMA world kept hearing rumblings that Dan Henderson would be fighting Daniel Cormier at UFC 173, but UFC President Dana White kept saying nothing had been finalized. Until now.
White announced this morning on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” that Cormier will be battling Henderson in the co-main event of UFC 173. The UFC President said that the winner of this fight will get the next title shot after Alexander Gustafsson, who will battle the winner of the light heavyweight title fight this weekend at UFC 172 featuring champion Jon Jones defending against Glover Teixeira.
Cormier last competed in February defeating late replacement Patrick Cummins by unanimous decision at UFC 170 in his debut at light heavyweight. Henderson competed last month at UFC Fight Night 38 winning by third round knockout over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
UFC 173 takes place on Saturday, May 24 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main event of the show features Renan Barao defending his UFC Bantamweight Championship against T.J. Dillashaw.
