When the fight was announced of Tito Ortiz and Alexander Shlemenko for tonight’s Bellator 120, people thought Shlemenko would win. Ortiz was in some betting circles a five to one underdog against the Bellator middleweight champion. “The People’s Champion” had a point to prove again to the world that he could be a good fighter.
Ortiz got a rousing ovation walking to the cage. The fight started out with both guys standing and circling each other. Shlemenko landed some body shots and then Ortiz pressed Shlemenko against the cage looking for a takedown.
The former UFC light heavyweight champion was then able to get the middleweight champion to his knees and was finally able to score the takedown. Ortiz was able to get on Shlemenko and then got to half guard and locked in the head and arm choke. Shlemenko refused to tap and passed out, with referee John McCarthy stopping the fight.
Tito Ortiz defeat Alexander Shlemenko at 2:27 of round one by submission (arm triangle choke).
