Bellator aired its first ever pay-per-view Saturday night in Southaven, Mississippi, with Rampage Jackson in the main event facing Muhammed Lawal. Jackson won the fight by a controversial unanimous decision.
The promotion had been hyping the fight as the biggest grudge match in MMA. It sure had seemed like that leading up to the fight. Both guys had a pull apart brawl in February, got into again during a faceoff special between the two last Monday on Spike TV.
During the weigh-ins on Friday after both guys weighed in, Jackson and Lawal had a staredown. Both guys were talking back and forth, then Jackson shoved Lawal. People got in between both guys to make sure nothing else went down.
MMAFighting.com is reporting that Jackson was fined $10,000 for the shoving incident. The head of the Mississippi Athletic Commission, Jon Lewis told the website that he almost banned Jackson from fighting Lawal for the conduct, but Jackson also became very upset after he found out about the fine. Jackson was described as being an “out of control individual to the nth degree.”
