Wanderlei Silva Out, Vitor Belfort To Face Chael Sonnen At UFC 175

Ever since Chael Sonnen was announced to face Wanderlei Silva at UFC 175, Sonnen didn’t think Silva would make it to the fight. He proved to be correct and looks like that fight my never happen.

Combate in Brazil is reporting that Silva is out of the fight with Sonnen and Vitor Belfort is stepping in to fight Sonnen at UFC 175. Combate’s article states that Silva didn’t attend a licensing hearing for the fight in Las Vegas. Silva does now reside in the area.

The UFC hasn’t made an official statement on the change of the fight, but an announcement on that seems to be coming tonight if you read the tweet from “UFC Tonight” analyst Kenny Florian. The show airs tonight on Fox Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET.

Sonnen made a vague statement regarding the situation.

Belfort hints at the fight being made on Twitter a short time ago.

Silva just released a statement in Portuguese moments ago.

Per google translator that means, “What’s this?? I’m not believing!!”

Silva and Sonnen had just had a heated faceoff on Friday at the press conference to officially announce UFC 175. Sonnen was harassing Silva, who laughed most of it off until he went face to face with Sonnen.

Belfort hasn’t fought has won three fights in a row, last defeating defeating Dan Henderson by second round knockout in November. “The Phenom” was supposed to fight Weidman, but issues with Nevada banning TRT and Belfort still on it, Nevada didn’t want to license him until they felt confident he was good to go.

UFC 175 takes place on Saturday, July 5 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The main event is Chris Weidman defending the UFC middleweight title against Lyoto Machida. The co-main event is Ronda Rousey defending her UFC women’s bantamweight title against Alexis Davis.
