WWE NXT Takeover Results: Neville Retains, New Champion Crowned

NXT Takeover Pre-Show: The WWE NXT Takeover pre-show kicks off with Renee Young welcoming us. She’s outside of the NXT Arena at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida. Renee is joined by Paul Heyman, Christian and a bunch of excited fans. Christian gets a pop and says it’s good to be out of hibernation. Heyman also gets a pop. He has a scoop – it was at NXT Arrival that he officially signed Cesaro to be the next Paul Heyman Guy. Heyman says he’s looking for another Heyman Guy or Heyman Girl at Takeover tonight.

Christian talks about having a front row to the future. Heyman talks about Adam Rose, Rusev, Lana and Bo Dallas being at Arrival and now making an impact on the main roster. Renee talks about Sami Zayn vs. Tyler Breeze in a #1 contender’s match. She says Breeze has a few surprises planned as fans start an “ole!” chant. Christian talks about the match. Renee leads us to a video package on Breeze. We go back to the panel. Christian says Zayn is like the NXT version of Captain Charisma because he always has the best match on the card. We go to a video package for Zayn now.

We go back to the panel and Cesaro has joined them. He says, “this match won’t be a breeze for Sami.” Cesaro talks about Zayn. Cesaro says he taught Zayn how to lose and tonight, he has to prove he can win. We see CJ Parker out in the audience and he’s getting booed. His sign says, “there is no planet B.” The panel talks about Natalya vs. Charlotte for the vacant NXT Women’s Title later tonight. Cesaro has left the panel. Christian picks Charlotte to win and says Ric Flair in her corner will help. We go to a video package on Charlotte. We come back to the panel. Christian does his best Flair impersonation. Christian says she can’t live off her dad’s name and says she has to make it about her in the ring tonight. Heyman leads us to pre-recorded interviews with Flair and Bret Hart talking about the match.

We come back to the panel and CJ Parker is shown out in the crowd again. Renee talks about Tyson Kidd vs. Adrian Neville for the NXT Title. We get a video package on Neville. We come back to the panel. Heyman says he has had his eye on Kidd for a long time and now he has a chance to become NXT Champion. Christian praises Neville’s in-ring skills. Renee leads us to a sitdown interview with Kidd, Natalya and Michael Cole. There’s some tension between Kidd and Natalya when it comes to who wins or loses tonight. Cole says if Kidd doesn’t win, he’ll be known as simply Natalya’s husband. Kidd gets a little heated. We come back and Heyman rips on Cole for his couples counseling and divorce court. Heyman reminds us Brock Lesnar ended The Undertaker’s Streak. They talk more about tonight’s main event. Christian says the match will be off the charts amazing. Heyman says this will make you a fan if you’re not already. Heyman and Christian have been pretty good on the pre-show. Heyman predicts Kidd will win but Christian goes with Neville. We see the Exotic Express pulling into the set. The Rosebuds hop off and they’re partying, with the bunny leading the way. Adam Rose is out next with his megaphone. Rose takes a selfie with a fan and that’s it for the pre-show.

WWE NXT Takeover 

First Match: Adam Rose vs. Camacho

Rose is feeling rather playful as he jumps into Camacho’s arms, only to be slammed down to the mat in a hard landing. A nice butterfly suplex gets two on Adam and we hit the chinlock. The fans sing the song to get Rose back to his feet because this is the most awesome crowd in wrestling. Rose escapes and starts Hulking Up but a hard boot to the face puts him down for two. Another chinlock slows things down as the fans chant PARTY TIME. Camacho drops a leg for two but Rose fights back with left hands and a big spinebuster. A Bronco Buster sets up the Party Foul to pin Camacho. 

Winner: Adam Rose

We get a highlight package about Sami Zayn’s journey to NXT Takeover

Second Match: NXT Tag Team Championship Match
The Ascension (c) vs. Kalisto and El Local

The bell rings and The Ascension quickly beat their opponents down. They go for a double team but get sent out of the ring with head scissors. Fans chant “lucha” for Kalisto. They go to dive out of the ring but Ascension meets them with big uppercuts on the way out of the ring. They come back in and it’s Viktor going at it with Kalisto. We get dueling chants for each team now.Konnor tags in and keeps Kalisto down. Konnor drops a big elbow for a two count. Viktor tags in for some double teaming. Viktor tugs at Kalisto’s mask as the referee warns him. Viktor with a big chop and a two count. Kalisto fights back but Viktor overpowers him. Viktor takes Kalisto to the top and turns him upside down. Konnor tags back in and stomps at Kalisto while he’s upside down. Viktor tags back in for more offense on Kalisto. Another two count by Viktor. Viktor goes for another headlock.

Kalisto fights back but Viktor tosses him out of the ring. Konnor throws Kalisto into the ropes, sending him bouncing back to the floor. Konnor does it again but Kalisto holds onto the ropes and kicks back. He also takes Viktor down. Kalisto comes in for a tag but Konnor stops him. Konnor rams Kalisto into the corner and tags Viktor back in. Viktor with another big chop. Kalisto nails an uppercut and a big takedown from the top. Local finally tags in and unloads on Viktor. He also decks Konnor. Local with more offense but he slips coming off the middle rope. Fans boo. Viktor runs into a big kick to the head. Local nails a moonsault from the second rope but Konnor breaks the pin.Kalisto nails Konnor but gets thrown out of the ring. Viktor nails a STO on Local. Konnor tags in. They hit Fall of Man and Konnor covers Local for the win.

Winner: Still NXT Tag Team Champions The Ascension

We get a highlight package about Tyler Breeze.

Third Match: #1 Contenders Match to the NXT Championship
Sami Zayn vs. Tyler Breeze

They go to lock up and Breeze stalls some. They feel each other out and trade holds. Zayn takes Breeze to the mat and holds him with a knee. Breeze fights out and works on the arm. Zayn comes off the rope with a pair of arm drags. Zayn counters and hits another arm drag before taking Breeze to the mat by his arm. Zayn fights up and out. Zayn hits a dropkick and takes Breeze to the corner. Breeze tosses Zayn out to the corner. Zayn makes it back in at the seven count. Breeze takes Zayn to the corner and works him over now. Breeze drops a knee and covers for a pin attempt. Breeze bulldogs Zayn’s face into the turnbuckle and covers for a two count.

Breeze continues the offense and goes for another pin attempt. Breeze keeps Zayn grounded on the mat with a front face-lock. Zayn counters a move and tosses Breeze across the ring. More “ole!” chants from the fans. Zayn dumps Breeze over the top rope to the floor. Zayn springboards up and moonsaults onto Breeze on the floor. Zayn brings it back in the ring and nails a big crossbody for a two count. More back and forth. Zayn hits the big sitdown powerbomb for another close two count. Breeze ends up hitting a big DDT for a two count. Breeze nails a big sitdown powerbomb out of the corner for another two count. Fans with “this is awesome” chants now. Breeze beats Zayn down in the corner with right hands now. The referee has to back Breeze off twice.

Zayn nails a big exploder suplex out of nowhere. More counters and back and forth. Zayn runs into a big superkick to the face for a two count. Breeze with more right hands as both of them stagger on their feet. Zayn slaps him back. Breeze unloads with rights and lefts. The referee backs him off again. Zayn blocks a whip. Breeze blocks a finisher and goes for a roll up but that’s blocked. Sami nails a big powerbomb for a close two count. Fans chant “NXT” and “this is awesome” now. Sami charges but Breeze escapes to the floor. Sami runs the ropes and leaps out onto Breeze, knocking his head on the steel ramp. Fans chant “holy s–t” and “ole!” now. Sami brings Breeze back in the ring but misses a Helluva Kick in the corner. It appears Sami got hit with an accidental low blow. Breeze nails the Beauty Shot for the win.

Winner: Tyler Breeze

First In-Ring Segment:

We go to the ring and Eden introduces Lana. Lana comes out to the stage and out next comes Rusev with a Russian flag. They come to the ring and Lana takes the mic. She says like Russia has expanded over Europe to become the next superpower, Rusev has expanded over RAW and SmackDown. Now he’s came back to NXT to receive admiration from the peasants he stepped on to get to the top. Lana mentions Russian President Vladimir Putin and we see him on the big screen. She tells everyone to rise for Rusev. He says his usual and waves the flag as Mojo Rawley makes his way out with an American flag.

Second In-Ring Segment:

WWE Divas Champion Paige comes out to the ring. Paige says it’s amazing to be back at NXT. She says this is going to sound cheesy and cliche but she thanks each and every one of the fans. She means it. She says she wouldn’t be where she is today without the fans and NXT. She wouldn’t be WWE Divas Champion without them. Paige says she couldn’t be more proud to be the first-ever NXT Women’s Champion but tonight, we’re crowning a new champion. She says this champion has to have strength, character and grace. She says while holding the title, you’re holding the key to the future. She says holding that can lead to this and holds up the Divas Title. She thanks the fans again and says to enjoy the show because it’s going to be memorable. Paige gets a pop as her music hits and she heads to the back.

Fourth Match: Vacant NXT Womens Championship Match
Charlotte w/Ric Flair vs. Natayla w/Bret Hart

Feeling out process to start as the legends play cheerleaders. Natalya takes her down by the arm but gets caught in a headscissors. Back up and Natalya grabs the headlock as well. That goes nowhere either so they fight over wristlocks until Charlotte grabs an armbar.

Natalya does the Owen Hart roll out and grabs a leg lock to take over. Back up again and Natalya takes her right back down with another leg tie. Charlotte reaches around to grab a chinlock which goes into a front facelock. They hit the ropes for a bit with Natalya countering a wheelbarrow slam into a cradle for two. Natalya grabs a body scissors but Charlotte rolls to the ropes to avoid a cross armbreaker.Charlotte gets tired of submission stuff and slaps Natalya in the face. A BIG chop puts Natalya down and Ric loses his mind going WOO. Natalya tries a sleeper but gets caught in an over the shoulder Stunner for two. Charlotte slams the Canadian’s face into the mat over and over before choking in the corner a bit. Off to a figure four headlock complete with Madison Rayne’s face ram into the mat.

Back up and it’s off to an abdominal stretch on Natalya, albeit not a very good one. Natalya reverses into a much better one and even grabs Charlotte’s leg for good measure. Charlotte rolls out and hits a low dropkick for two. Natalya fights back with power and a low dropkick of her own, followed by a whip into the corner for a Flair Flip. They head outside with Charlotte whipping Natalya off the apron by the leg. Back in and Charlotte goes up, only to miss a moonsault.

A discus lariat gets two for Natalya and the Sharpshooter goes on, but Charlotte rolls out and puts on the Figure Four. Natalya somehow reverses the pressure without turning the hold over and Charlotte crawls to the apron. She falls to the floor with the hold still on and both girls are in trouble. Natalya is sent knee first into the steps and it’s back inside for a bad Sharpshooter (complete with a glare at Bret) but Natalya rolls through, only to be kicked away from the Sharpshooter. Charlotte hits Bow Down To The Queen out of nowhere for the pin.

Winner: New NXT Womens Champion Charlotte

Fifth Match: WWE NXT Championship Match
Adrian Neville (c) vs. Tyson Kidd

The bell rings and they stare each other down. They lock up and tangle into the ropes and to the corner. The referee orders them to break it up and Kidd backs off. Kidd offers his hand and they shake. Kidd pulls him in and they have some friendly competitive words. They lock up and Kidd takes Neville to the mat. More counters now. They break and Kidd drops Neville to the mat. They lock up and Kidd works on the arm. Neville goes to counter but Kidd blocks it and sends him to the mat with a hold. More back and forth on the mat. They run the ropes and Kidd catapults but Neville lands on his feet. More counters, they dropkick each other and land on their feet for another staredown and more trash talking. Mirror images, says Phillips. Kidd with a big right hand to the face, sending Neville to the mat. Kidd whips Neville hard into the corner and he goes down.

Kidd turns Neville upside down in the corner and works him over with kicks. Kidd with a dropkick. Kidd drops Neville with an elbow for a two count. Kidd goes back to a headlock now. Neville tries to fight back but Kidd drops him on the top rope and dropkicks him. Neville ends up on the floor and Kidd leaps out, taking him down onto the steel. Kidd brings him back in the ring for a two count. Kidd with a knee drop and a headlock. Kidd runs into a boot in the corner. Neville ducks a clothesline but they collide in mid-air and both go down. More back and forth. Neville takes control and hits a low dropkick for a two count. Neville with a forearm from the top for another two count. Kidd fights back and kicks Neville in the face. Neville dropkicks him to the floor. Neville runs the ropes and goes to dive out but runs into a kick to the head. Kidd covers for a two count.

Kidd goes to the the top but Neville knocks him down. Neville climbs up for a superplex but Kidd fights him. Kidd goes for the powerbomb from the top but Neville jumps off and lands on his feet. Neville with the big sitdown powerbomb for a two count. Neville with a kick to the face and more kicks. Neville leaps on the ropes but Kidd jumps up right behind him and nails a side Russian leg sweep from the second rope. Kidd covers for a two count. Kidd goes to the top again. He lands on his feet and avoids Neville’s knees. Neville blocks a submission with a two count. Kidd with a kick to the head and a dropkick to the head. Neville blocks a suplex and goes for one of his own but they both tumble over the top rope and out to the floor. Fan chant “NXT” as the referee begins counting.

They make it back in at the nine count but are still down so the referee counts again. They use each other to stand up and trade shots. Neville ducks a clothesline but gets hit. Kidd goes for a Sharpshooter but barely gets it applied. Neville tries to counter but Kidd applies the Dungeon Lock and kicks him in the face as he tightens the hold. Neville’s eyes begin to close and the referee checks on him. Neville finally makes it to the bottom rope and the hold is broken. Neville ends up hanging half-way on the middle rope. Kidd goes to the top rope, flips and nails a leg drop while Neville is hanging. two count for Kidd. Kidd knocks Neville from the top. Neville runs back up and launches Kidd across the ring. Neville goes back up and nails Red Arrow for the win.

After the match, Neville celebrates with his title as we go to replays. We come back to the ring and Neville is wearing his title. The smoke comes from the rafters as Kidd looks on from the corner. Neville looks at him and goes back to celebrating before we get another replay of the Red Arrow. The music stops and fans cheer as Neville approaches Kidd. He offers his hand for a shake. Kidd bumps into him and keeps walking out of the ring as fans start booting. Neville’s music hits again as we get one more replay of Red Arrow. Takeover goes off the air with Neville posing with the NXT Title.

Winner: Still NXT Champion Adrian Neville
