ESPN.com is reporting that Chael Sonnen has failed a random drug test and is out of his UFC 175 fight against Vitor Belfort. Sonnen tested positive for two illegal substances, Anastrozole and Clomiphene, which are two female drugs. Anastrozole is used to treat early stages of breast cancer and clomiphene is used in cases of female infertility.
Sonnen took a random drug test from the Nevada State Athletic Commission during the weekend of UFC 173 as Sonnen was in Las Vegas to attend the UFC 175 introductory press conference.
Sonnen was on TRT prior to the state of Nevada banning testing in February. The former three-time UFC title challenger tested positive for an elevated testosterone-to-epitestosterone ratio prior to his fight with Anderson Silva at UFC 117 in August of 2010.
The UFC released a statement a short time ago on the situation.
“Chael is planning on addressing the matter this afternoon.”
Sonnen will be making a statement on the situation on Fox Sports 1 on “America’s Pregame” at 6 pm ET. Sonnen is a UFC analyst on UFC Tonight, which airs at 8 p.m ET tomorrow night. The ESPN article states that Sonnen will reportedly not file an appeal.
