Beyond a short interview a few weeks ago on Fox Sports 1, we haven’t really heard from UFC president Dana White on Chael Sonnen. On Monday night, the UFC and Fox Sports announced they were releasing Chael Sonnen from his fighting and broadcasting duties. The announcement was due to the news on Saturday that Sonnen had failed a second random drug test. White did an interview on Fox Sports 1 on Tuesday and gave his thoughts on the releasing the three-time UFC title challenger.
“It’s never easy making a decision like this,” White told “America’s Pregame” on FOX Sports 1. “Chael’s a person that I personally care about. I know a lot of people at FOX care about him, too. The guy had four banned substances in his system leading up to a fight here in Las Vegas. It’s a tough one, it’s one of those hard decisions you’ve got to make. It’s something we had to do.”

It was revealed a few weeks ago that Sonnen failed a random drug test administered by the Nevada State Athletic Commission leading up to a fight with Vitor Belfort at UFC 175 this Saturday. Then, the revelation on Saturday with the second failed drug test.
