UFC 175 Results: Chris Weidman Retains Middleweight Title In Action Packed Fight Against Lyoto Machida

Chris Weidman had a point to prove in his second defense of his UFC middleweight championship tonight against Lyoto Machida at UFC 175. People thought Weidman’s wins over Anderson Silva were fluke. The New York native proved the critics wrong.

The fight starts with three kicks from Weidman. Machida circling the cage and another attempted kick by the champion. Weidman stalking Machida, throws a kick and tries for a single leg takedown. Machida gets real up. Weidman clips Machida with a jab and lands another leg kick.

Two high kicks thrown by the champion and a counter left hand by Machida. A head kick lands by Machida. Another body kick by the champion. Body kick by Machida. Weidman stalking Machida to end the round.

Round two opens with both guys feeling each other out. Machida attempts a kick, but was blocked by Weidman. The champion lands a left hook, then chases after Machida. Machida throws a straight left, but Weidman lands a right hand.

Each guy lands leg kicks. Weidman lands a left hand and jumping kick. Machida throws a high kick, but was blocked by Weidman and then lands a left hand. Weidman scores a takedown and presses Machida against the cage landing punches to the head. Machida gets up, but the champion lands a knee to end the round.

Round three opens with Weidman landing a jab. Weidman tries for another single leg takedown, but is unsuccessful. Machida lands a left jab and a left kick to the body. Machida stuffs a takedown, but moments later the champion lands a takedown and into Machida’s guard. Weidman lands a elbow and trying to get Machida’s back, but the challenger gets up.

Weidman lands a combination and is pressuring Machida, right hand. Machida has a cut above his right eye. Weidman scores another takedown and has Machida’s back, who gets up and is taken down again by the champion. Machida gets up.

Round four opens with Weidman landing a knee to the body. Machida lands a left hook and throwing push kicks. Machida lands another left hand and Weidman is breathing heavy. Machida lands a combination, but Weidman gets the fight back to the middle of the cage.

Machida lands a body kick and a left hand and another left hand. Weidman tries for a takedown, but Machida blocks it. Crowd chanting for Machida. Another body kick by Machida and landing punches. Weidman landed a knee and Machida lands a left hand to end the round.

The fifth and final round starts with Machida lands an inside leg kick and then a body kick. Each guy lands a left hand. Weidman tries for a takedown, but is blocked by the challenger and landing some knees. A standing elbow by Weidman and then a right hand. A right hand by Machida and then Weidman tags the challenger with a right hand. Weidman lands a leg kick and then a knee to the body.

A standing elbow and knee by Weidman and then a big takedown with 1:40 left. Elbows on the ground by the champion. Weidman takes Machida’s back and flattens him out. Weidman landing punches to the head and Machida gets up. Machida lands a right hand, knees, left and right hands to end the fight.

Chris Weidman defeats Lyoto Machida by unanimous decision (49-45, 48-47, 49-46) to retain the UFC middleweight championship.
