Gina Carano has been the treasure that UFC president Dana White has been unable to secure. Could White seal the deal and have Carano in the fold a week from now?
In an interview with ESPN.com, White stated that him and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta will meet with Carano next week in Los Angeles.
“One down, one to go,” White said. “I’m going to meet with Gina next week and get that f—ing thing done. Next week, man. “It’s just a matter of me and Lorenzo going to jump on a plane to Los Angeles, get in a room with her and her lawyer and get this thing done.”
Getting Carano would be another huge boost to the growing UFC women’s bantamweight division after the signing of Holly Holm on Thursday. White said Carano wants to fight and wants bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.
“There is no doubt about it, she wants to fight,” White said. “And she wants to fight Ronda.”
Carano hasn’t competed since August of 2009 under the Strikeforce banner, losing to Cris Cyborg by first round stoppage.
