WWE Releases Statement Regarding Controversial Lana Promo From WWE Battleground

Last night at WWE Battleground before Rusev faced Jack Swagger, Lana cut a promo that seemed to hint at the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 incident that occurred on Thursday. An airplane which was carrying 300 people was shot down over eastern Ukraine and it is being reported that the plane was destroyed by local pro-Russian rebels.

The promo has received negative mainstream press from the likes of The New York Daily News and The Daily Mail in the United Kingdom. WWE released a statement to TMZ a short time ago in regards to the promo.

“The storyline with characters Rusev and Lana has been a part of WWE programming for more than 3 months. WWE apologizes to anyone who misunderstood last night’s segment and was offended.”
