Raw Pre-Show:

Scott Stanford, Corey Graves, and David Otunga hosted the show from WWE Headquarters. Stanford hyped that Paul Heyman would appear on Raw to speak on behalf of Brock Lesnar. The hosts set up footage involving Jon Stewart and Seth Rollins and hyped “The Daily Show” host’s appearance on Raw. They announced that Rollins will host his own version of “The Daily Show” on Raw. Stanford questioned whether Stewart will bring some extra muscle with him to Raw. Footage was shown from Hulk Hogan Appreciation Night from Friday’s Madison Square Garden live event. They showed the Hogan banner in the rafters. The focus was shifted to whether Rusev owes John Cena a rematch. Graves said he doesn’t owe him one despite the nut shot finish. Otunga disagreed, saying Rusev would not have beaten Cena had it not been “for Lana and those legs.” Stanford was the voice of reason and brought up the low blow.

Nikki Bella vs. Paige for the Divas Championship was announced for Raw. Backstage at Raw, Renee Young interviewed Paige, who said she learned how to play the game early and doesn’t have many friends. She said she hopes to become a three-time champion and show everyone why “that ring is my house.” The hosts spoke about Paul Heyman getting inside the head of Roman Reigns’ via his forthcoming promo on Raw. The hosts switched the focus back to John Cena and questioned how he will get on the WrestleMania card. They also hyped that Cena would appear on Raw to address his WrestleMania future.

WWE Raw:

Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns Promo:

Rolllins says that he has just received word that New Jersey’s own Jon Stewart has wrapped up his comedy show and he is on his way to Raw to confront him. He tells Jon that he knows he is watching. If you are not on your way to get down on your knees to beg forgiveness, you should turn around and not show up. Rollins says that he is not some comedy foil. This is not a Jerry Lawler/Andy Kaufman situation. Rollins says that he is going to show everyone that he can do his job better than Stewart can. He is the future of the WWE, he is Mr. Money in the Bank, and he is the shining jewel of the Authority. Every person in the crowd paid to see Seth Rollins because they do not hand out free tickets like they do for The Daily Show. Reigns interrupts Rollins and says that he wants to hear everyone tell Seth that he sucks live.

Rollins says that before he was so rudely interrupted, that he is worth more than Michael Jordan. He can out work everybody. He can out-talk Jon Stewart, he can out rap Wiz Kalifa, and he can out eat Mark Henry. Since you are out here, he can outwrestle you. Rollins, not Roman, is going to be the next WWE Champion. Rollins stops Roman from saying he is going to be the next WWE Champion. Jersey agrees with him because you cannot beat Brock Lesnar. Rollins says that he has been in the ring with Brock and with you. Brock is a near indestructible force. Rollins says that he can beat Brock Lesnar and he can beat you.

Roman asks Rollins if he can beat Brock Lesnar. Last time he checked, you had a chance at the Royal Rumble, but you couldn’t get the job done. He wants to know if Rollins is man enough to cash in the contract and beat him and Brock Lesnar in a Triple Threat match in the main event of Wrestlemania? Rollins says that he could do that or he can wait until you and Brock tear each other to pieces and then maybe he can cash in on whoever is left standing. Or maybe he can wait until the night after Wrestlemania when the entire world watches the fallout of Wrestlemania. Maybe he can bide his time and cash in when the champ least expects it. Roman says that he can punch Rollins in his mouth. Rollins pushes Reigns and Reigns punches Rollins and then he hits a Superman punch on Noble and a spear to Mercury.

Josh’s Reaction: I thought it was nice in-ring promo to start off the show. Rollins continues to improve each week and he’s a legit main event star. Roman Reigns did a okay job getting the crowd to say you suck at Rollins. I was annoyed by CM Punk chants it was totally unecessary and disrespectful. Nonetheless good segment didn’t drag too long.

Truth shows Ambrose he doesn’t have the belt.

Winner: Dean Ambrose

Josh’s Reaction: Really good back and forth physical match between Barrett and Ambrose far better than their Fast Lane match. R-Truth was gold on commentary tonight once again and I’m happy he’s in this title picture and it was pretty cool seeing Luke Harper being added to this carnival. I’m liking everything that going on so far with this Intercontinental Championship feud.

Grade for this Match/Storyline 91/100 A-

The Miz & Damien Mizdow Backstage Segment:

Wrestlers in the back and Miz tries to get everyone to be quiet. He says that he has gathered everyone for the world premiere of his new commercial. Miz says that Sandow would be nothing without him. Miz calls Sandow an ungrateful nobody and he slaps Sandow. Miz wants to know what Sandow has to say for himself and Sandow says that he is sorry.

Josh’s Reaction: Just pure entertainment and comedy. The WWE has been doing a great job with this Miz/Mizdow feud and I was literally crying laughing during this segment.

Natalya reinjures her leg when she floats over and Naomi does not believe her and she gets a near fall. Kidd tags back in and Jimmy with clotheslines but he misses an enzuigiri. Kidd with a back heel kick and Irish whip but he runs into an uppercut. Jey is tagged in and they try for a double super kick and Kidd tags in Natalya. Natalya wants to know why Tyson tagged her in and Naomi with a rollup for the three count. After the match, Natalya yells at Tyson and Cesaro tries to be neutral in the situation. Tyson hugs Natalya to apologize.

Winner: The Usos and Naomi

Josh’s Reaction: I thought this was a solid 6 man tag team match. Don’t get me wrong I wished that the match went a little bit longer, but they are adding layers to this feud with including the wives. I like what’s going on Kidd/Cesaro vs The Usos can be a great rivalry.

Grade for this Match/Storyline: 83/100 B

John Cena, Stephanie McMahon and Curtis Axel Segment:

Cena mentions the contrasting opinions of the fans. He says this is one of those rare occasions when those of you who are not in his corner are having a wonderful time. It was you who got to see Rusev defeat him at Fastlane. They also saw him last week ask for a rematch at Wrestlemania when Rusev said no. Those of you not in his corner, he has news for you. Don’t stay this happy so long. He would love to give Rusev his first loss on the biggest change, he is going to change, adapt, and overcome. If you are going to climb to the mountain and you trip on your way to the top, you wipe yourself off and continue to seek that prize. Rusev you are a marked man and he will get his hands on you soon. John says his focus is on Wrestlemania. If you are one of the 75,000 to be in Levi Stadium or the millions on the WWE Network, he is going to enter himself in the Andre the Giant Battle Royal. He says he will make a giant statement. Stephanie McMahon interrupts and she makes her way to the ring.

Stephanie wants to know when people declare what match they are going to be in, let alone the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. John mentions that Miz, Fandango, and Adam Rose declared their intention to be in the match and they are not a murderer’s row. Stephanie says that Andre is a symbol of the excellence in the WWE. Andre was her friend. Stephanie says that Cena cannot be in the Battle Royal. John says that in that photo, you could tell that Stephanie was not the bitch that she is today. John says that he was not trying to belittle Andre the Giant. Any Wrestlemania moment is one to remember. John points out that he is a fifteen time champion and he has been in ten Wrestlemanias. Stephanie points out that John is not a friend of the Authority. You got the Authority fired. If you couldn’t get the job done against Rusev, maybe they can find someone who can do it. John says that it is not about Rusev, the Authority, or Sting. It is about Wrestlemania. The day John Cena isn’t in Wrestlemania is  Stephanie says that many people have said that without them, the WWE would not survive, but it has thrived. What if John Cena did not wrestle at Wrestlemania and the crowd likes it. Wrestlemania will still be the biggest show. John, you are not special or unique. You need to think where would John Cena be without WWE?

Curtis Axel comes out and he tells you not to change the channel. Axel says that he has been in the Royal Rumble for 35 days, 26 hours, and counting. He says that he is often imitated, but never eliminated. Curtis says if you are looking for an opponent for Rusev, he is a perfect choice. He is third generation and he knew Andre as a child. Two wins would be special. Curtis says that Stephanie is an inspiration to him. Stephanie says finally we have someone who shows respect. She says that if you want to prove yourself, why don’t you face Curtis Axel right now. Stephanie says the only way you compete against Rusev at Wrestlemania is to change his mind and get him to accept the match. Axel channels Hulk Hogan and he throws out a WHATCHA GONNA DO and he rips his shirt like Hogan. Cena tells Axel he is going to give him on chance to leave the ring. Cena tells Axel if this match starts, you will not walk out of this ring.

Josh’s Reaction: Phenomenal promo between Stephanie & John. Epic storytelling with the fact WWE is going with a different direction and Cena is no longer the face of the WWE. Also Stephanie shedding spotlight on the Andre the Giant The Memorial Battle Royal. Good for Curtis Axel with another funny yet very effective promo.

Grade for this Segment: 95/100 A

Third Match: John Cena vs. Curtis Axel

Axel starts an AxelMania chant and then he does the hand to the ear and Cena does not move. Axel does a pose down and then Axel turns around and Cena with a clothesline. Cena with a punch to Axel and Axel falls into the ropes. Axel gets back to his feet and he Hulks Up and turns around into a clothesline. Cena with an Attitude Adjustment and an STF and Axel taps out. After the match, Rusev’s music plays and he comes out with Lana. She congratulates him on his victory. Rusev reminds Cena of what Stephanie said about Cena facing him at Wrestlemania. Rusev says that since it is his choice to make his answer is. Rusev calls the fans ignorant when they what and he says it is not their decision. The crowd chants ‘USA’ and Rusev says his answer is ‘No’!

Winner: John Cena

Josh’s Reaction: Can’t say much about the match it was a pure squatch match to have Cena make Rusev change his mind. Rusev made the right choice as a heel to say no continue to push this forward and let this play out no rush eventually we’ll know that Rusev/Cena will happen at WrestleMania. The build is in the chance and will see how Cena overcome’s the odd and how he will get this match official with Rusev.

Grade for this Match/Storyline: 80/100 B-

Triple H & Booker T Promo:

Hunter says in 1995 he looked Vince McMahon in the eye and said he wanted an opportunity. Twenty years later, thirteen titles, and the COO. It looks like he took advantage of his opportunity. At Fastlane, he gave Sting the chance to be bigger than he ever was for a fleeting chance to have a moment on the grandest stage of them all. Hunter says that Sting chose to do it with the wrong guy. Sting will step into the ring with the Game, the King of Kings. He will make sure that it is as if Sting’s career never existed. Why didn’t Sting come here after all of these years? Everyone has a theory. Hunter brings Booker T into the ring since he knows Sting. Hunter says he heard what Booker said a few minutes ago when he said that he wasn’t allowed in the WWE. Why do you think Sting never came here?

Booker says he knows Sting. He has gone down the road with Sting many times. He knows Hunter and he knows that Hunter is not afraid to use his influence and power. He probably would have blocked Sting from coming into the WWE too. Hunter asks Booker if he believes the conspiracy theories. You are just like the kids who think they know the ins and outs of the industry. Booker says that Sting is a stand up dude. Sting is loyal. He was the last man standing in WCW. Booker tells Hunter that best for business or not, you cannot control Sting. No one can. Flair, Hogan, the nWo, and Eric Bischoff could not control Sting.

Sting is here in the WWE and you got to deal with it at Wrestlemania. Hunter says if no one can control Sting, why couldn’t he come here? Maybe Sting didn’t want to come here. Hunter says that is your opinion. Control is a funny thing because you have power over people. When you don’t have control, it is a scary thing. Hunter thanks Booker for coming into the ring and you’re fired. Booker walks up the ramp and Hunter tells him to stop. He tells Booker he is just messing with you. He says that Booker is great at what he does. He is a valuable member of the commentary team. Hunter says that is an example of what control is. Hunter says that he has been an opportunity on a silver platter. He has been handed an opportunity to end a legacy, end an icon, end the last vestige of WCW. He will do what he does better than anyone else. He will take advantage of that situation and he will put an end to Sting.

Josh’s Reaction: Another Good Promo and I’m glad WWE is using today as the avenue to display really good story telling in promos. Usually during WrestleMania your not going to see alot of wrestling matches with extensive time, it’s about bringing butt’s to the seats and promoting WrestleMania. Always when Triple H buries the IWC which by the way I’m not a part of. Segment’s like this once again add interest into WrestleMania. Triple H is the man and i’ve been loving the usage of WCW legends and just being the big history buff on the staff this may be one of my favorite WrestleMania builds of all-time. Will we Sting on Raw? Will he ever respond? Who knows, but the WWE has been hitting the ball out of the ball park with this storyline and Triple H is doing some of his best work as a heel

Grade for this Segment: 96/100 A

Fourth Match: WWE Diva’s Championship Match
Nikki Bella (c) w/Brie Bella vs Paige

They lock up and Nikki with a shoulder tackle but Paige with a leg sweep and a near fall. Paige sends Nikki throat first into the turnbuckles and then Paige with a head butt for a near fall. Paige tries for the PTO but Nikki gets to the ropes. Nikki rolls to the floor and we go to commercial. We are back and Nikki with a surfboard to Paige. We see Paige with a baseball slide during commercial and we see more footage of Nikki with an Alabama Slam. Nikki gets a near fall. Nikki with a reverse chin lock. Paige with elbows but Nikki with a spinebuster. Paige with a kick and then both women go for clotheslines and both go down.

Paige with short arm clotheslines to Nikki followed by a running drop kick and she gets a near fall. Paige goes for the PTO and Brie gets on the apron and for some reason Paige focuses on Brie and kicks her off the apron. Paige avoids a forearm and she punches Nikki and applies the PTO. Brie interferes and the referee calls for the bell. After the match, Brie holds Paige for Nikki but AJ Lee’s music plays and Nikki and Brie forget how to move as AJ comes to the ring. AJ attacks Nikki and Brie but Nikki hits AJ from behind while AJ works over Brie. Paige makes the save for AJ. Paige and AJ kick Brie to the apron. Then they throw Nikki to the floor. It looks like Paige and AJ are friends again.

Winner: Paige by DQ

Josh’s Reaction: Anything is better than a 36 second match from last week and they gave the Diva’s sometime and one of the things we have to deal with tv matches is commercials they are bound to happen and you can thank the FCC for that. I thought that this match was pretty solid for what it was. Obviously the Bellas play good heel tactics and it was nice seeing AJ Lee return, but what ruin it for me was the CM Punk chants. Look CM Punk is my favorite wrestler and I miss him, but these chants have to stop and it’s ruining AJ Lee’s image in my point of view.

Grade for this Match/Storyline: 84/100 B

AJ Lee & Paige Backstage Segment:

Grade for this Segment: 85/100 B

Seth Rollin’s Daily Show Segment:

Seth points out that they are in Newark, New Jersey, but it is not a glorious place. It is the armpit of America. For the last two weeks, alleged funny man Jon Stewart has been calling him out and saying he wanted a piece of him. We take a look at Seth Rollins appearing on The Daily Show last week  Seth says he verbally dominated Jon Stewart on his own show and he is here to prove that he can do Jon’s job far better than he ever could. The first topic is ‘Where is Jon Stewart?” Jon talked a tough game a few weeks ago, but now he is dead silent. He says that Jon is a wuss and a phony, but what do you expect, he is from New Jersey. Seth says to give Jon credit where it is deserved. He decided not to show up, just like America didn’t show up to the movie he directed last year. Seth says he would make sure that Jon retired early if he showed up because he would not be able to do a show with his jaw wired shut.

Jon shows up and he makes his way to the ring. Seth welcomes Jon to the show. Jon says that this is something else that Seth did not earn. Seth says that he is proving to the world that he can do this job better than Jon. Jon says that Seth is proving that he can barely read. Seth asks Jon if he is trying to embarrass him. Jon says that Seth is dressed like a SWAT Team Stripper. Jon says that the people of New Jersey aren’t afraid of the curb stomp because that is the way they greet everyone in the morning . . . for brunch. Jon remembers the wrestlers who earned it like Bruno Sammartino and Gorilla Monsoon. You never fought your way up like Mick Foley. You never went against the establishment like Stone Cold. You never fought through injury after injury to become a great like the Undertaker. You thought you could take a short cut by cheating and becoming the poster boy for the Authority. Jon says that posters get taken down when people get tired of him.

Jon says that he has something that Seth never will and that is respect. Jon says he will prove it. The Authority doesn’t care about you. If they cared, who is fighting for the title at Wrestlemania? Is it Seth Rollins? Is it Lesnar and Reigns? If you are better in the ring, why aren’t you fighting for the title? No matter what happens at Wrestlemania, you will have nothing. You will only be holding your briefcase. It is something you didn’t earn. Jon says that he was in Boston and you did not earn that briefcase. He says that if Kane did not. Jon gets up and he is cornered by Joey, Jamie, and Seth. Seth grabs Jon and Randy Orton’s music plays and Seth looks at the ramp. Jon with a low kick and he gets out of the ring. Orton goes halfway to the ring and then he turns around and goes to the back.

Josh’s Reaction: Funny segment and it’s one of the best usage of a celebrity on Raw for years. Jon Stewart was great in that segment and obviously showed that he’s a big fan and he helped build Rollin’s story more than the commentators did over the last four months. I wonder when Orton is finally going to turn we get it they’re playing posse, but you missing out on a major reaction.

Grade for this Segment: 94/100 A

Ziggler climbs the ladder on the stage as Bryan looks on from the top of the announce table. Ziggler raises the belt as Bryan chants with fans. Ziggler tells Bryan to bring it and he looks up at the WrestleMania sign.

Winner: Daniel Bryan

Josh’s Reaction: Bumbed out that these two guys didn’t have more time, but maybe we can see these guys feud in the future. The match was solid and Bryan picked up a big victory. Loved the brawl after the match and is it official that Daniel Bryan will be in the Intercontinental Championship Ladder Match?

Heyman says Reigns is going to be destroyed and conquered by Brock at WrestleMania. Believe that. He tosses the microphone out of the ring. Reigns’ music hits and out he comes through the crowd.

Josh’s Reaction: Paul Heyman is the god of promos. If you’re not excited for this Reigns/Lesnar match after that promo there’s something wrong with you. You always learn something from Heyman when’s on the mic and he can sell anything that’s why he’s the greatest advocate of all-time.

Thought Raw finish off strong and I felt that the WWE did a good job adding layers and moving these storylines in the right direction. Good show overall and had a fun time covering it.
