WWE Raw Reaction 3/3/2014: “The Dumbest Thing I’ve Ever Seen”

Bryan Triple H

It wasn’t a matter of if the hometown Chicago crowd was going to steal the show, but when. Luckily, WWE’s creative team was smart enough to recognize this, and they attacked the CM Punk issue head-on. As a result, Paul Heyman gave us one of the most tangible, addictive show openings in recent history. Notice that Heyman didn’t directly attack Punk… instead, he played off the hopes of the fans by coming out to Punk’s music – thus taking the proverbial wind out of the crowd – and then proceeded to blame everybody in attendance for Punk not being there. He earned their jeers. This was another “Paul Heyman Instant Classic,” and it did a great job of setting the tone for Monday Night. [Read more...]

WWE Smackdown Spoilers For Tonight’s Show

smackdown

The WWE held their Smackdown tapings last night in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The show will air on Friday night on the SyFy channel starting at 8 p.m. ET. Here is what happened at the tapings.

Smackdown opened with a memorial for Nelson Frazier, Jr. (a/k/a Mabel, Viscera, Big Daddy V)… The Uso’s and Daniel Bryan vs. The New Age Outlaws and Kane was hyped, plus an A.J. Lee vs. Cameron rematch.

-Batista started out the show with mixed boos and cheers. Batista started off by saying “I love this business and company.” He said he did not come back to be liked. A huge C.M. Punk chant broke out. He said you don’t have to support him, but you gotta deal with it. He said it’s a fact he can destroy anyone they put in front of him. A small Daniel Bryan chant started and died quickly.

Batista asked what the hell happened to this business, the real men, the attitude. A huge Yes! chant broke out. He said if the fans honestly think their heroes are as good as him they need to get out of their fantasy world and to get out of his. He said he would destroy each of our heroes on his way to WrestleMania where he will become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Out came Dolph Ziggler. A “Let’s Go Ziggler” chant broke out. Ziggler started out by saying, “You don’t tell these people who to cheer for” and that they cheer for who they want. He said Batista is a dinosaur and sooner or later they become extinct. Ziggler said he wants a match with Batista tonight. Batista said he wanted it he would get it. Ziggler dropkicked him and walked away.

-The Real Americans beat Big E and Mark Henry. Swagger and E started the match. Cesaro supplexed E when Cesaro was on the top rope and E was outside of the ropes. Cesaro went for the pin and Swagger came in. Cesaro was angry. Henry went for the World’s Strongest Slam on Swagger, but Cesaro kicked Henry. Swagger went for the Ankle Lock on Henry, and Cesaro tagged himself in. Cesaro hits The Neutralizer on Henry (drawing gasps from the crowd) for the win.

-Vickie Guerrero and Alberto Del Rio were shown talking backstage. Del Rio said he’s going to take the night off. In came Sheamus, who said he loves a good fight. Hs said how about he and Del Rio fight, setting up the next match.

-Sheamus beat Alberto Del Rio by DQ. Sheamus has black athletic tape on his ribs. It was basically the same match between the two. Out came Christian in a suit. He went to the announcers’ Table. It was a back and forth match but nothing special. Sheamus had Del Rio in a half crab then Christian came in and hit Sheamus for the DQ. Sheamus threw Christian out of the ring, then Brogue kicked Del Rio, and got Killswitched by Christian.

-The Shield argued backstage. Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose yelled at each other like children. Enter Seth Rollins for the save. He said let’s show Bray Wyatt when you provoke the hounds you get the teeth.

-Batista beat Dolph Ziggler. Dolph with fast offense to start. Batista got in the face of a fan wearing the clown wig. A boring chant started, then a C.M. Punk chant (which I started, ha). This is a slow match. There were a couple spine busters in a row from Batista, who was generating serious heat by taunting the WWE Universe. Batista performed the Batista Bomb for the win…

-Bray Wyatt and the family come out. Wyatt preached about how we buy fancy clothing to impress women. He said women don’t even realize your wearing the mask that society tells you to wear. Everything is a bag of lies. Bray is so so amazing live. Bray said he says and does everything the society is afraid to do. He said he will slay this mighty dragon (in reference to John Cena).

-Out came The Shield. There was a stare down in the ring. Out came Triple H, who said this is enough and has too much money and time involved in them. This Monday night on Raw, the Wyatt’s will take on The shield. He said that for the time being, The Shield should stand down.

-Reigns and The Shield stepped into the ring and only Bray stepped in. Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins jumped onto Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, then quickly got back into the ring. Bray left and Seth was pumped. Bray backed the family up.

-AJ Lee beat Cameron to retain the Divas Championship. AJ started fast on offense. Cameron went on the offensive and was destroying AJ. Tamina moved AJ out of the corner and Cameron missed her and rammed into the corner. Tamina got thrown out, but AJ won with the Black Widow.

A recap of the undertaker and Brock Lesnar confrontation from Raw was shown, then the pre-show commentary team spoke about Taker’s Streak.

-Daniel Bryan and The Uso Brothers beat Kane and The New Age Outlaws. There were huge Yes! chants. Out came corporate Kane. The Outlaws didn’t do their whole saying. The Uso’s and Bryan work very well together. Kane looks so stupid in a wife beater and slacks and dress shoes. A “you sold out” chant began. Kane and the Outlaws huddled outside and talked strategy. I’m so impressed with the Uso’s. I can see gold on them soon. A straight forward match early on. Nothing special. Bryan tagged in and sent a knee to Kane on the ropes. Kane got back into the match and stopped the Bryan comeback. The Uso’s double kicked Kane and sent him out of the ring. Bryan hit the running knee on Billy Gunn for the win. This match closed the show. No dark match, nor return date announced.

JPOV: Awesome edition of Monday Night RAW. Loved the matches that involved~ Daniel Bryan vs. Kane, Sheamus vs. Christian, and Roman Regins vs. Bray Wyatt. Loved the promo from Daniel Bryan. The low point for me with this Raw was the commentary from JBL. I thought Batista had a better match with Del Rio then they did at the Elimination Chamber. Enjoyed the interaction with The Wyatt Family and John Cena. This show needed more of The Authority. You can’t go wrong with the return of Hulk Hogan just a great moment for the WWE. Of course the last segment right there with Brock Lesnar and Undertaker that was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

JPOV: This was the best Chamber PPV out of the five. Besides the Cameron and AJ Lee Match and Darren vs. Titus, this show was off the charts. The Shield vs. The Wyatt Family match was epic that is all that needs to be said. Batista had a solid outing with Del Rio despite a very disrespectful crowd. Loved the chamber match sorry folks Bryan shouldn’t have won the title at the chamber PPV.

Top Matches In The History Of WWE Elimination Chamber

elimination chamber

The WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view takes place tonight from the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The main event features the Elimination Chamber match with Randy Orton defending the WWE world heavyweight championship against Cesaro, Christian, Daniel Bryan, John Cena and Sheamus.

The first Elimination Chamber match took place at the 2002 Survivor Series. Tonight’s match will be the 17th chamber match in WWE history. Chris Jericho has competed in the most chamber matches at eight and Triple H has the most victories at four.

We are now going to take a look at the top matches inside the Elimination Chamber.

3)  No Way Out  2009: Edge walked into this event as the WWE champion. The Smackdown chamber kicked off the night as Edge defended the title against Triple H, The Undertaker, Jeff Hardy and Big Show and Vladimir Kozlov. The champion didn’t last long as he was pinned by Jeff Hardy about 2:30 into the match. The match came down to Undertaker and Triple H with HHH winning the match to become the WWE champion.

The former champion wasn’t done for the night as the main event of the show was the Raw chamber match featuring John Cena defending the world heavyweight championship against Chris Jericho, Kane, Mike Knox, Rey Mysterio and Kofi Kingston.

As Kingston was making his way to the cage, Edge attacked him from behind and threw him into the ringside steps and then grabbed hit Kingston over the head with a chair. Edge then ran into one of the chamber pods and inserted himself into the match. Cena ended up being the third man eliminated as he was speared and pinned by Edge. The match came down to Edge and Mysterio. Edge threw Mysterio through the pod glass and put Mysterio back into the ring, speared him and became the new world heavyweight champion. Edge was the only WWE superstar to ever compete in two chamber matches in one night.

2) No Way Out 2008: The Undertaker is nearing the end of his Hall of Fame career. The Undertaker has only competed in three chamber matches in his career. Taker was in the 2008 match with Batista, MVP, Big Daddy V, Finlay and Great Khali to determine the number one contender for the world heavyweight championship. The final two participants were Taker and Batista. In a unique ending, Batista was on the outside with his back to the ring and Taker lifted Batista over the ropes for tombstone piledriver and the pinfall victory. That was The Undertaker’s lone chamber victory.

1) Survivor Series 2002: This was the first time that the match ever took place. The match featured HHH defending the world heavyweight championship against Shawn Michaels, Rob Van Dam, Booker T, Chris Jericho and Kane. One of the highlights of the match was Van Dam doing a five star frog splash and landing on HHH and causing a severe throat injury. The ending of the match came down to HHH and Michaels with Michaels back body dropping HHH from a pedigree and landing “Sweet Chin Music” to capture the title in a thrilling match.

Punk has stated numerous times that he is a big MMA fan and has attended numerous UFC events, most recently appearing at UFC on Fox 10 in his hometown of Chicago. That event was a day before the Rumble show.

Was Punk just there as a fan?

First 10 Things You Should Watch on WWE Network

wwe-networkThe big day is almost here, Christmas in February for wrestling fans with the WWE Network set to launch on Monday morning at 9:00a ET.  Over 1,500 hours of video-on-reman will be available immediately including all WWE, WCW and ECW pay-per-views.

If that isn’t enough, WWE will also include all new pay-per-views as well as encores of new episodes of Raw and Smackdown on the new WWE Network as well as other original programming.   Anyone that signs up gets all of that for free for a week and then for $9.99 a month with a six-month commitment.  Yeah, that’s a good deal.

With all of that video-on-demand programming available from there get-go, here are ten things you should watch after signing up for the WWE Network.

WWF Royal Rumble 1992 – Royal Rumble Match

A flamboyant Ric Flair had been talking for weeks about how we has going to become the WWF World Champion after joining the World Wrestling Federation just a few months earlier bragging about how he was the real world champion.  He had a tough road to go, entering the Royal Rumble at number three.  His manager Bobby Heenan was on commentary and nearly passed out every time that Flair was nearly eliminated.  But the Nature Boy survived nearly 60 minutes and in the end was able to push Sid Justice out of the ring with a helping hand from Hulk Hogan who was upset that Justice had taken him out a few seconds earlier.  After the match, Flair, Heenan and Curt Hennig — all wearing the biggest grins ever — bragged about the win with Flair exclaiming, “With a tear in my eye, this is the greatest moment in the history of my life!”  Wooo!

WrestleMania 25 – Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker

Both men had amazing entrances with Michaels decked in all white and he descended from the clouds while The Undertaker ascended from the floor surrounded by flames.  Even more amazing was the match these two would have, a nearly flawless performance by both legends in putting together an all-time classic and arguable the greatest match in WrestleMania history.  The Undertaker was nearly knocked out and could have possibly been permanently injured while performing a suicide dive over the ropes to the floor where Michaels pulled the cameraman in front of him.  The problem was that person was out of position and did not catch the Dead Man who torpedoed down on his head and neck.  Somehow, he was able to continue and after both men kicked our of each other’s finishers and the crowd in a frenzy, Michaels went for a moonsault for Undertaker caught him and went right into a Tombstone Piledriver for the win.

1999 ECW Living Dangerously – Jerry Lynn vs. Rob Van Dam

This was the first encounter between them in what would become the biggest feud in both men’s careers.  Both of them went 110% pulling out moves and countermoves and just crazy amounts of action, coming up with so many brutal yet innovative moves as they battled for the ECW Television Title.  After going to the 20-minute time limit with no winner, referee John Finnegan was ready to award the match to Lynn but he wanted none of that and insisted that they go another five minutes to get a clean winner.   That would backfire as Van Dam would connect on the Five Star Frog Splash a couple minutes later for the win.

WWE Summerslam 2002 – Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H

This was Michaels return to the ring after more than four years and it looked like he hadn’t missed a day.   Just so they could play it safe and have every trick at their disposal, this match was a non-sanctioned street fight.  Michaels wasn’t holding anything back and he even broke out a splash off the top rope sending Triple H through a table on the floor.  In the end, Michaels was able to reverse a Pedigree and roll up Hunter for the win in his big return.

WCW Superbrawl II – Brian Pillman vs. Justin Thunder Liger

An innovative match for its time in 1992 as they put on a display of aerial moves and countermoves against one another for nearly 20 minutes for the WCW Light Heavyweight Championship.  One of the best things WCW ever did was focus on the light heavyweight / cruiserweight division, helping bring in a style that most people in the U.S. had never seen before along with a new crop of stars.  Both of them shined but Pillman never looked better here pulling out the victory.

WWE Summerslam 2011 – CM Punk vs. John Cena

After having some real life contract issues with the company and dropping his infamous ‘pipe bomb” promo on Raw, Punk won the WWE Championship at the Money in the Bank PPV and looked to have left the company with its most prestigious title.  John Cena would later win a new version of the championship but Punk would return to face Cena as they would crown an undisputed champion.  An electric crowd was treated to a classic between the two who have always had tremendous chemistry together.  That would be the case again on this night with them going back and forth before Punk got the win after connecting on his second GTS of the match.

WCW Halloween Havoc 1997 – Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio Jr.

A fantastic performance that helped further put cruiserweight wrestling on the map in the country.   The crowd was on fire as they showed off everything from some fantastic chain wrestling to high flying action showcasing their unbelievable skills.  Both Guerrero and Mysterio were in the prime of their careers and moving at such an unbelievable pace and working flawlessly in unison.  Mysterio was able to hit a huracanrada for the three count and winning the cruiserweight championship and holding on to his mask in the process.

ECW Heatwave 1998 – Masato Tanaka vs. Mike Awesome

This one is not for anyone squeamish as is turned into one of the more violent matches you have ever seen, going above and beyond with the number of physical power moves and unprotected chair shots that should be a case study for CTE.  Still, Tanaka and Awesome put on quite a display of perseverance and one-upmanship that saw Tanaka finally slay the giant.

WWF Summerslam 1992 – Bret Hart vs. British Bulldog

The WWF took this show across the pond to Wembley Stadium in London with their own British Bulldog challenging Bret Hart for the Intercontinental Championship in the main event.  A masterpiece between the two as they showcased great technical wrestling and an incredible story with Hart using his quickness and the bigger Bulldog focusing on power moves.  Hart tried to close out the match with a sunset flip but Bulldog reversed the move and pinned Hart to win the championship in front of a joyous crowd.

WWF WrestleMania 15 – The Rock vs. Steve Austin

The two biggest stars of the era clashing on the biggest stage with Austin at the popularity of his powers while The Rock was still growing into his.  Remember, The Rock was a heel before becoming the People’s Champion as he representing Mr. McMahon and the Corporation.  It’s great to look back at these two wrestling giants in the primes in this mega-clash.  It also turned out to be a great match as they exchanged finishers in the end with Austin finally landing a Stone Cold Stunner to win the WWF Championship.
