Hulk Hogan States That It Is “Just So Humbling And Exciting” To Be Back In WWE And Hosting Wrestlemania

Hulk-hogan

Hulk Hogan is quite arguably the biggest draw in the history of pro wrestling. Hogan returned to the WWE after a six year hiatus and announced he will be the host of Wrestlemania 30. The event takes place this Sunday from the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The WWE Hall of Famer talked to Redeye Chicago and discussed what it was like to get the call from the WWE to return and be apart of Wrestlemania 30.

“Well, I started this thing. Before I worked for Vince McMahon Jr. I worked for his dad. So it’s kind of the house that Hogan and McMahon built. It was a small regional company at the time but when Vince Jr. took over, he wanted me to be the lead dog because I had the most momentum going at the time than any other wrestler.

So starting this wonderful experience and now fast-forwarding 30 years later and with the timing being so good and lucky is just so humbling and exciting. To be the host and announcing matches for the show leaves me speechless at times.

When I tell others that I will be immortal, it’s true. With the WWE Network I will always be introduced to younger generations and the Hulkster will be running wild forever.”

Hogan also gives his predictions on who wins at Wrestlemania, whether he would do a reality show on the WWE Network and much more.

Top Five Matches In The Career Of Randy Orton

randy orton, champion

Randy Orton heads into this Sunday’s WWE Wrestlemania 30 as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Orton will be in the main event of the show facing Batista and the winner of the Daniel Bryan vs HHH match.

Orton signed a deal with WWE in 2001 and started in Ohio Valley Wrestling and was brought up to the main roster in 2002. Orton is a 12 time WWE/World Heavyweight Champion, Intercontinental Champion and Tag Team Champion.

We are going to look back at the top matches in the career of the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

5) Randy Orton vs Rob Van Dam at 2003 Armageddon for the WWE Intercontinental Championship: Orton had started to find his place in the company when this match took place in December 2003. By this time, Orton was apart of Evolution with HHH, Batista and Ric Flair. They were the most over heels at that current time. Van Dam was the Intercontinental Champion heading into this title defense. In what was a very good match, Orton defeated Van Dam to the title and win the first singles belt of his career.

4) Randy Orton vs Mick Foley at 2004 Backlash: This feud had started to escalate at the end of 2003 and rolled right into 2004. The two squared off in a handicap match at Wrestlemania 20 when Orton, Batista and Flair defeated Foley and The Rock. The WWE paired the two in a one on one match at the Backlash pay-per-view the following month in a no holds barred match. This was Foley’s first singles match in over four years and the two put on one heck of a match. Orton won the match and really put him on the map as a guy who can adapt to different types of wrestling styles.

3) Randy Orton vs Chris Benoit at Summerslam 2004 for the World Heavyweight Championship: I know bringing up Benoit’s name is pretty much taboo since he murdered his wife and son in 2007. This match was Orton’s first crack at a heavyweight title and got into the match by winning a battle royal a few weeks beforehand. Benoit had been on a run during this time as he won the World Heavyweight Title at Wrestlemania 20. It was a hotly contested 20 minute match with Orton walking out the winner and his first ever Heavyweight Championship.

2) Randy Orton vs The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 21: This was a really good buildup as Orton had been the “Legend Killer” gimmick laying out legends like Mick Foley, Jake “The Snake” Roberts and Ric Flair. Heading into Wrestlemania 21, Taker was 12-0 at Mania heading into this match. This match went about 15 minutes with Taker winning the match, which was his best Mania match since his match with Triple H at Wrestlemania 17 in 2001 and has been Orton’s best match ever at Wrestlemania.

1) Randy Orton vs Triple H at No Mercy 2007 for the WWE Championship: Heading into this event, the title was vacant as it was supposed to be John Cena vs Orton, but Cena had torn his pectoral muscle six days before on an edition of Monday Night Raw. At the beginning of the show, Vince McMahon had made Orton the champion, but HHH protested and McMahon a match them two and HHH won the title. “The Game” then defeated Umaga halfway through the show and then faced Orton in the main event of the show in a last man standing match. Orton walked out of the match winning in my mind his first ever WWE championship.

Let us know your thoughts on if you would get rid of or add any matches.

Stephanie McMahon States That Fans Will Be “Terribly Disappointed” When Triple H “Handily” Beats Daniel Bryan

The most talked about match at this Sunday’s WWE Wrestlemania 30 is Daniel Bryan vs HHH. Whoever wins the match goes on to the main event to face WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton and Batista.

In his weekly interview, Michael Cole speaks with HHH’s wife Stephanie McMahon to promote the big match. Cole asks McMahon if Bryan gave the fans hope after getting the better of HHH on this past Monday’s Raw.

“Well that’s the exact word Michael, impossible,” McMahon stated. “And regardless of any false hope that Daniel Bryan may have given his fans, I’m sorry to say but their going to be terribly disappointed at Wrestlemania when my husband HHH handily beats Daniel Bryan and then goes onto to beat Randy Orton and Dave Batista and become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Steve Austin On CM Punk: “He (Punk) Is Going To Make His Return At WrestleMania 30 in New Orleans

austin

Wrestling fans for the last few years have clamored for a match between “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and CM Punk at a Wrestlemania. Punk has stated in the past that is something he wants. Austin though has been non-committal about wanting a match with Punk.

We haven’t seen Punk since the Royal Rumble due to him walking out of the WWE the day following the show.

The WWE Hall of Famer just released the latest podcast, “The Steve Austin Show” and stated that he feels “The Best In The World” will return this Sunday at Wrestlemania 30.

“I’m telling you, I’m going to stick to my prediction that CM Punk is going to make his return at WrestleMania 30 in New Orleans. I made this prediction two months ago here on the show.

“It’s been a long time, I think he’s cooled his jets, he’s got some rest, and I think it’s time to get back to work. I don’t see him participating in a match but it would be great to see him in a run-in to establish himself, to entrench himself immediately in a memorable and just a great moment, and I would say plant himself firmly in the middle of an angle, because he would be the angle, by attacking whoever he sees fit to attack or asserting his presence rather, whatever the case may be. But I see CM Punk coming back at WrestleMania 30. Who knows if it will happen. We will know in about six short days when WrestleMania actually happens.”

WWE Monday Night Raw Rating Up Heading Into Wrestlemania 30

RAW logo black

We are five days away from WWE Wrestlemania 30 from the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. Last night’s edition of Monday Night Raw gives the WWE some momentum heading into the biggest weekend of the wrestling year. Raw scored a 3.14 rating with an average of 4.39 million viewers. That is up from last week’s 3.07 rating with an average of 4.272 million viewers.

The first hour of the showed averaged 4.23 million viewers that featured the opening segment with Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker. The second hour averaged 4.60 million viewers and featured the Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, Randy Orton and Batista segment along with John Cena attacking the Wyatt Family. The third and final hour of the show averaged 4.33 million viewers that featured a John Cena interview and the final segment with the Batista vs Orton match. That match also featured Stephanie McMahon and Triple H commentary and interference from Daniel Bryan.

The Good, The Bad And The Dirty From Last Night’s WWE Monday Night Raw

Photo from WWE.com

Photo from WWE.com

Last night’s edition of WWE Monday Night Raw took place in Washington D.C. and was the final Raw before WrestleMania 30 on Sunday in New Orleans. We give you what was the good, the bad and the dirty from last night’s show.

The Good

1) John Cena Promo: It was a good night for Cena. The first time we seen him out was when he stood in the ring with the Wyatt’s in Duke “The Dumpster” Droese garb and a sheep’s mask after Bray Wyatt’s match with R-Truth. Cena then cut an emotional backstage interview with Renee Young telling her that,”You will see fire, you will see hell, and you will see rage and John Cena will be a monster.” Behind the nonsensical Jimmy Buffet reference a few weeks back, Cena has cut some very good promos heading into Wrestlemania. Wish we would see more consistent promos from Cena in every program.

2) Opening Segment: I was very down on what WWE did last week making Brock Lesnar look weak again with The Undertaker. It was a very smart move by WWE opening with Taker and Lesnar to combat the series finale of “How I Met Your Mother”. Liked when Taker used the line, “there are three things that can’t be beat: Death, Taxes, and The Streak. That line made it seem how important The Streak is to everyday life. Paul Heyman was his usual spot on self comparing Lesnar winning this Sunday to Hulk Hogan defeating Andre the Giant at Wrestlemania 3. Liked how Lesnar walked around the ring and thinking about whether to get into the ring with Taker. Was smart for Heyman to distract Taker with Lesnar giving a vicious clothesline and the F5. Only bad thing was I wish Lesnar would have done another F5, but this segment left fans with some doubt of whether The Streak will continue on after Wrestlemania.

The Bad

3) Piper’s Pit: Roddy Piper felt that he should be on Wrestlemania 30 and do a Piper’s Pit with Hulk Hogan due to the happenings at Wrestlemania 1. Well, thankfully we got this last night. Piper looked lost a couple times in promoting the Andre the Giant Battle Royal. The eye gouge was awful and unnecessary. This was a waste of time and their could have been a better way to promote the Battle Royal.

4) Big E vs Alberto Del Rio: This doesn’t get a bad due to the match, as it wasn’t horrible. This was bad to the finish. The logic behind the Intercontinental champion losing a non-title match to a guy who hasn’t won a lot of matches in awhile. Big E should be defending the title instead of being in the Battle Royal. All titles should be defended at Wrestlemania as you can always throw guys in the Battle Royal to fill the ring.

The Dirty

5) Closing Segment: This a good dirty. Behind a few things, this was looking like a dreadful show heading into the final segment of the show. The Batista vs Randy Orton match was a good match considering what we have seen from Batista since his return in January. Liked how Bryan came out through the crowd and attacked Triple H. It was good to see Bryan get the better of Batista and Orton as well as it gives the fans hope that he will walk out of Wrestlemania with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Thought it was a smart move by WWE to keep Bryan off of last week’s Raw as it meant more last night as Bryan got the biggest pop of the show. Will Bryan win the title on Sunday? We will find out.

In what would not be considered shocking news, the WWE announced earlier today that Luis Ignacio Urive Alvirde (aka Sin Cara) has been released the company. The WWE released the following statement on their website.

“WWE has come to terms on the release of Luis Ignacio Urive Alvirde effective on March 26, 2014. We wish Luis the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

Alvirde made a big splash debuting in 2011, but didn’t make the impact many expected. The WWE replaced him with Hunicio now under doing the Sin Cara gimmick. Alvirde stated on his Twitter page yesterday that would continue the Sin Cara gimmick in Mexico.
