WWE Smackdown Spoilers For Friday January 31, 2014

smackdown

The WWE held their Smackdown tapings last night in Toledo, Ohio. The show will air on Friday night on the SyFy channel starting at 8 p.m. ET. Here is what happened at the tapings.

The Shield started off in the ring bickering. Seth Rollins talked down Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns. They focused on the Wyatt Family. They issued a challenge to the Wyatt’s. Vickie Guerrero came out to Vickie heat. She started to book the match only to be interrupted by Triple H. Hunter tried to dissuade The Shield from going after the Wyatt’s. The Shield demanded Triple H book them in a match against The Wyatt Family at Elimination Chamber. Triple H complied “if that’s what you want.”

-Antonio Cesaro beat Dolph Ziggler in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match. Pretty basic Ziggler match. Cesaro did the swing but only six or seven revolutions.

-Fandango beat Xavier Woods. It was an actual match even though it had dance off written all over it. Woods entered with the Funkadactyls and R-Truth. Truth cleared Fandango post match and the faces danced while Woods sold his injuries. Woods has inherited the full Brodus Clay entrance…weird.

-Ryback and Curtis Axel beat The Prime Time Players. Fast match. Young was in the whole time. O’Neil looked at Young in disgust post match. Titus gave the “I’m a loser by association” talk and then beat down Young. Prime Time appears to be done.

-The Wyatts offered a warning to The Shield via video. I can’t do it justice but it was good. Luke Harper spoke; first time I’ve heard that.

-Christian defeated Jack Swagger in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match. Not a huge reaction for a returning Christian. Good back and forth match. Zeb got in Swagger’s face post match and gave him an ear full. Tension builds between the 2.

-Kofi Kingston defeated Damien Sandow. Nothing special and I was distracted by everyone in my section buying a pizza from the concession guy.

-Cody Rhodes beat Road Dogg. The Outlaws did the full entrance routine. The crowd played along. Goldust accompanied Cody. The brothers cleared the Outlaws post match. There was no friction between Cody and Goldust.

-The Shield defeated Daniel Bryan, Sheamus, and Rey Mysterio. Roman Reigns won by pinning Mysterio. Reigns destroyed Rey with a spear as Rey was going for the 619. Good action through out. Very fast passed hard to recall all the moments. Bryan was hot every time he entered the match. The Shield, Sheamus, and Rey cleared the arena and taping appeared to end.

-The Miz defeated Brodus Clay. Wade Barrett delivered live commentary of the match about how awful both men were. He got a bigger babyface reaction than Miz or Clay. Miz won in short order.

-AJ Lee (w/Tamina) defeated Cameron (w/Naomi). After the win, AJ went after Cameron, and Naomi cleared the ring.

-Ryback and Curtis Axel defeated Los Matadores (w/El Torito). El Torito attacked after the match and hit Ryback with a top rope splash onto the floor. Ryback acted super mad afterward.

-CM Punk cut a promo on The Authority and the Royal Rumble. Kane interrupted and said Punk had a .00000186 percent chance of winning. Punk called Kane a sellout and said he’d show why he’s been the best in the world since day one.

The match ended in a DQ/no-contest and a huge battle royal brawl occurred to close the show. Big E hit the Big Ending on Roman Reigns. The ring eventually cleared out to leave Punk and the Shield.

Brock Lesnar’s First WWE Match In 2014 Set (SPOILER)

brock

It had been speculated that Brock Lesnar after his Summerslam bout with CM Punk, wouldn’t wrestle until Wrestlemania 30 due to his part-time contract. We were all wrong.

It was announced on tonight’s Smackdown tapings that Lesnar will be squaring off against The Big Show at The Royal Rumble. On last night’s Raw after Lesnar had brutalized Mark Henry. Lesnar and Paul Heyman were walking to the back and Show’s music hit and the duo headed back to the ring.

Lesnar and Show battled for a moment and then Show hip tossed Lesnar, who then rolled out of the ring.

At the Smackdown tapings, Show was on Miz TV and he challenged Lesnar to a match at the Rumble. Heyman came out a moment late and accepted the match for Lesnar.

The Royal Rumble takes place on Sunday, January 26 from the CONSOL Energy Center in Pitssburgh, Pennsylvania.

WWE Smackdown Spoilers For Friday December 27, 2013

Cody-Rhodes

The WWE held their Smackdown tapings last night in Corpus Christi, Texas. The show will air on next Friday on the SyFy channel starting at 8 p.m. ET. Here is what happened at the tapings.

-John Cena came out to a loud pop. Corpus is always pro Cena. He included a Hulk Hogan reference in his promo while talking about last week’s Raw (next week really due to the taping schedule). He asked for a title match with Randy Orton tonight. The Shield came out to beat Cena. Mark Henry came out for the save but got beaten down. Big E Langston came out and the babyfaces took care of business. Kane came out to make the matches for tonight – Big E vs. Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns vs. Mark Henry, and Seth Rollins will face Cena all in singles matches (when The Shield left, they walked right next to us)…

-Luke Harper and Erick Rowan (w/Bray Wyatt) defeated The Uso Brothers. The Uso Brothers received a good pop. The Wyatt Family took care of business quickly. Bray entered the ring afterward to hit Sister Abigail to end the segment…

-Randy Orton was interviewed by Renee Young. He was interrupted soon after by Dolph Ziggler, and a match between the two was set up by Kane.

-Antonio Cesaro defeated Cody Rhodes. Cesaro won the match in roughly five minutes.

-The Prime Time Players defeated Curtis Axel and Ryback. Darren Young rolled up Axel for the win.

-WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton defeated Dolph Ziggler. Orton came out with both belts on his shoulder. Ziggler now has a strain of pink in his hair (if he wants to get over he has to be a serious face or heel to get back to where he was when he was a championship contender, no change since he turned face). A great match. They have had some in the past and this is right along with them. The ending saw when Orton hit his RKO for the win.

-After the match Orton hits Ziggler with an RKO and then took him outside and threw Ziggler in an ugly manner (and I mean it looked like it hurt bad for Ziggler). The segment concluded there. Ziggler has to be hurting somewhat for it to end the way it did.

-Daniel Bryan beat Damien Sandow. Bryan out to one of loudest pops of the night. Video footage was shown of this past Monday’s raw (next week). A great match with Bryan hitting his running knee. Bray Wyatt came out with the family to deliver a good promo that got some good heat.

-Big E Langston (w/John Cena, Mark Henry) beat Dean Ambrose (w/Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins). A good match. After they were all on floor, Langston got him in ring and hit the Big Ending for the win.

-Roman Reigns (w/Ambrose, Rollins) beat Mark Henry (w/Cena, Langston). A good match as well, that saw both go back and forth with their offense, but Henry is a beast and picked him up like he was Daniel Bryan. He is truly is strong as hell. Reigns came back with some nice moves followed by the spear for the win. I can hear the support for Reigns and rightfully, so as they set him up more and more as the breakout of The Shield. Mark Henry did a great job of selling the Reigns spear.

-John Cena (w/Langston, Henry) defeated Seth Rollins (w/Ambrose, Reigns). Another great match (I have been coming to events here since ’94 and I must say I am impressed with the matches, they have been better than I thought they would be considering the holiday season). Me and my buddies Robert and Sonny are impressed, and here in Corpus Christi the crowd is more hyped than it has been in years as well. Cena got a great pop as he hit Rollins with the Attitude Adjustment for the win. The faces celebrated. The Shield came by and I touched Reigns, who was full of sweat. I wiped it on my buddy Robert Chapa (haha). We said great match to Rollins and Reigns as they were close to us more so than Ambrose.

WWE Possibly Moving Smackdown To A Live Format , Summerslam Added To WWE Network

Wwenetworklogo

In an article on Variety.com, WWE officials are contemplating moving Smackdown to a different night and to a live format and moving the Summerslam PPV event to the WWE network.

The WWE TV contracts in the United States expire in the fall of 2014, but negotiations and bids can’t take place until Feb. 15 when NBCU accepts or rejects WWE’s final offer. Other bids are due Feb. 28, with WWE set to select its media partners by March 4. Should a new deal with another company happen, WWE shows wouldn’t move to a new network until October.

In previous WWE TV contracts, each show has been done separately, but in these rounds of negotiations the WWE is selling Monday Night Raw, Smackdown, Main Event, Saturday Morning Slam and Total Divas all together. The company currently gets $139.5 million for all of its programming and is looking get this next deal in the range of other sports leagues like the NBA, NASCAR and the NHL.

It was also revealed in the Variety article that Summerslam will be added along with WrestleMania on the new WWE Network that will be announced shortly. It was originally thought the break even point for the WWE Network would be around one to two million subscribers, but the article states that now the break even point be 800,000 to 1 million subscribers at a price between $10 to $14 a month. That would lead you to believe that WWE will be putting the network on a Netflix type of platform.

WWE Smackdown Spoilers For Friday November 29, 2013

smackdown

The WWE held their Smackdown tapings in Uncasville, Connecticut. The show will air on Friday night on the SyFy channel starting at 8 p.m. ET. Here is what happened at the tapings.

- JBL and Michael Cole came out to announce for Smackdown. Renee Young was in the ring to start. She asked us to welcome her guest, the face of WWE, Randy Orton. She asked about the controversy from Sunday’s title match against the Big Show. Orton claimed Big Show hadn’t knocked him out, he was playing possum. Orton said he didn’t need The Authority to win, and they tainted his victory. Renee then threw to a video package from Raw on the unification match setup. She asked Randy how that made him feel. She kept prompting him with adjectives, but Randy got annoyed with her and left the ring and walked up the ramp.

- Vickie Guerrero appeared on the Titantron to talk about Thanksgiving and have the superstars compete in a food eating contest. I couldn’t tell who because I couldn’t see the screen. Banal comedy.

- Mark Henry (w/Big E Langston) defeated Curtis Axel (w/Ryback). Henry won quickly with the World’s Strongest Slam. Apparently, this tag team feud continues.

- Another Thanksgiving skit aired on the blocked TitanTron. It sounded like it somehow involved R-Truth. There were more Thanksgiving skits after a commercial break. Yay. It sounded like Titus O’Neil won some contest and the right to compete against Antonio Cesaro.

- Los Matadores and El Torito beat The Plymouth Rockers (a/k/a 3MB). Wow, this show is getting better and better. Oh, but El Torito is wrestling and it’s a six man tag! Has that happened before? I’m not sure, I usually fast forward though both these teams matches. Los Matadores won quickly, thankfully.

But don’t worry! This show is saved! Brodus Clay and Tensai are out! I seriously feel like I’m at a house show right now. But at this point I guess Smackdown is pretty much the same thing.

- Tons of Funk beat R-Truth and Xavier Woods. Tons of Funk surprisingly won after Brodus splashed Xavier from the second rope. I guess Creed (a/k/a Woods) isn’t a priority.

- CM Punk was then interviewed by Young. He said he hadn’t heard from Daniel Bryan since he was kidnapped. He said he was injured and banged up. Then he said he didn’t know why The Shield attacked him. He said that maybe it was because they were carrying out orders from people with authority. Punk didn’t really seem to care about the fact he hadn’t heard from Bryan.

- Antonio Cesaro (w/Jack Swagger, Zeb Colter) by Titus O’Neil by DQ. No promo from Zeb. Antonio Cesaro started to spin Titus, but D-Young broke it up for the DQ. Odd. Titus then “vomited” into JBL’s hat as a result of the spin. Titus then shoved the hat in Michael Cole’s face. Titus then vomited on Zeb. More pointless comedy. Who writes this stuff?

- Bray Wyatt gave a promo on the Titantron in which he basically claimed that the Wyatts would turn Bryan into a monster.

- Cody Rhodes and Goldust beat Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns by DQ to retain the WWE Tag Team Championship. Lilian gave in-ring introductions, partly to give it a big match feel and partly because the microphone stopped working in the middle of the the Rhodes Brothers entrance. Ambrose was on commentary with JBL and Cole. A solid match, but not up to the par of their previous contests, partly due to the lack of crowd involvement because they were dead for the past hour plus of filler. Cody hit CrossRhodes on Rollins, but Dean Ambrose ran out causing the DQ.

- CM Punk came win a chair to even the odds, and Vickie made it a six man tag. Punk had the biggest pop of the night by far.

- CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, and Goldust beat The Shield by DQ when The Wyatt Family interfered. At one point in the match, the Wyatt’s came out and stood on the stage, drawing Daniel Bryan chants. Then they attacked Cody and Goldust, causing a DQ. The Shield then attacked Punk, and the Usos and Mysterio ran out and made the save.

- Vickie made a 12 man tag rematch from last weeks raw, except with Rey Mysterio instead of Daniel Bryan. I’m pretty sure this segment (from the tag title match until now) is gonna end up taking the entire final hour of Smackdown Friday. it’s been pretty awesome, so I’m not complaining.

- CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, Goldust, Rey Mysterio, and The Uso Brothers defeated The Shield and The Wyatt Family in a 12-man tag match. Very fun match, although another illogical ending with the faces picking up the win after a 619 and GTS combo on Erick Rowan. The faces posed at what I assume will be the end of the television show.

smackdown

The WWE held their Smackdown tapings in Manchester, England. The show will air on Friday night on the SyFy channel starting at 8 p.m. ET. Here is what happened at the tapings.

- Luke Harper and Erick Rowan (w/Bray Wyatt) defeated The Usos. The Wyatts dominated the match in large parts and both men toyed with the Usos. Bray rocked in his chair on the floor and laughed while looking sinister. One of the Usos was distracted and ended up taking a boot to the face from Harper for the win.

After the match, Bray entered the ring with a mic. One of the Usos dropkicked him in the stomach. All hell broke loose. Bray came back with Sister Abigail. Wyatt cut a promo about Survivor Series and how they will destroy CM Punk and Daniel Bryan.

- Natalya defeated Tamina Snuka.

- R-Truth and The Prime Time Players defeated The Union Jacks. Heath Slater ended up taking the pin for his team.

- John Cena beat Alberto Del Rio in an arm wrestling challenge. Del Rio claimed he was cheated at Hell in a Cell. Cena called him a liar. The crowd got on Cena and called him boring. The arm wrestling started and Cena won twice with ease to the point that it looked like Del Rio was throwing it. They went for a third match and this time Del Rio attacked Cena, who reversed it and kicked Del Rio’s head. Cena grabbed a chair and missed with it. Del Rio put Cena through the table, then took off his shirt and placed it on top of Cena.

- Cameron and Naomi beat The Bella Twins. Brie took charge but the momentum shifted. The Funkadactyls won with a “jumping bum move.”

- The Great Khali beat Hunico and Camacho in a handicap match. Khali threw Camacho out of the ring, then picked up Hunico by the chin and powerbombed him and got the three count.

- There was a quick clip with Bryan and Punk backstage. They seem to have adopted the team name of ‘Beard and The Best’.

- CM Punk and Daniel Bryan fought Curtis Axel and Ryback to a no-contest when The Wyatt Family interfered. Punk started in ring with Axel. Later, Ryback got upperhand on Punk with a few slams. Ryback tagged in Axel, who also controlled Punk, who countered and built up momentum. He sent Axel and Ryback out of the ring. Bryan and Punk dove through ropes and took out both.

Later, Ryback went for Punk and dropped him with a huge suplex. Punk eventually tagged in Bryan, who went on the assault and caught both Ryback and Axel with drop kicks. Bryan end up going for his submission finisher and the Wyatt Family appeared. Bryan and Punk disappeared. An enraged Wyatt family laid into Axel and Ryback, clearing them out of the ring. Punk and Bryan reappeared behind Harper and Rowen and drop kicked both of them in the back of the legs before scampering off.

WWE Smackdown Reaction and Review – November 8th, 2013

harper vs bryan

For a second time this week, WWE kicked off the show with CM Punk. And while his promo here against The Wyatts was decent, the follow-up match with Curtis Axel was nothing to write home about. We’ve seen these guys do this exact same thing almost every week. Furthermore, Axel continues to look like a tool for coming out and essentially sacrificing himself at the altar of Paul Heyman every week. The IC title is in bad, bad shape, folks. [Read more...]
