Upcoming Book Releases
The News - Wrestling  |   Written by Adam Wilcox   |   Wednesday, 21 May 2008
Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com has listed a preview of upcoming wrestling books at the site:

Ted DiBiase autobiography - June 10th

Andre the Giant biography - October 28th

Showdowns: Revisiting The Top 20 WWE Rivalries of the Last 20 Years - January 2009

Journalist James Guttman is also scheduled to release his second book entitled Shoot First … Ask Questions Later in December. The work will feature interviews from Guttman’s weekly Club WWI webcast at WorldWrestlingInsanity.com, as well as events surrounding those discussions. Guttman’s 2006 World Wrestling Insanity book was an insightful and entertaining (often hilarious) glimpse at the WWE main event landscape (focusing primarily on the 2002-2005 time period) and remains one of my personal favorites.

Please click on the above link for news regarding other slated book releases.

Matt Lindland, Oregon Republican House of Representatives Nominee
The News - Mixed Martial Arts  |   Written by Marshall Bowen   |   Wednesday, 21 May 2008

Matt Linland is one step closer to becoming an Oregon House Representative. KATU, the ABC affiliate in Portland, OR, is reporting that Lindland won Tuesday's Republican primary in the state by 14 percentage points. Lindland secured almost twice the amount of votes as his opponent. He is now the Republican candidate for the 52nd District of the state which includes some of the rural parts of the state near Portland.

As was reported my many outlets including myself and MMAjunkie.com back in March that Lindland, who was born and still resides in the state, was considering a run for the House seat with the incumbent representative retiring.

Linland, who has not fought since an April 2007 loss to Fedor Emelianeko, is schudeled to fight again for the "Affliction: Banned" show on July 19 taking on Fabio Negao.

Yet Another Change to UFC 85
The News - Mixed Martial Arts  |   Written by Brian Fritz   |   Wednesday, 21 May 2008

It sure does seem that June 7th UFC 85 show is cursed. Originally, the event was to be headlined by Chuck Liddell facing Rashad Evans. Then, Liddell went down with a torn hamstring and was replaced by James Irvin.

Last night, word came down that Irvin broke his foot while training and was off the show. Luiz Cane, who was scheduled to fight Jason Lambert, was then selected to take his place and fight Evans. Well, that's not going to happen either.

UFC.com is now reporting that Evans is off the show entirely with the middleweight fight between Nate Marquardt and Thales Leites added to the pay-per-view portion of the show.

Remember, Chris Leben was going to fight Michael Bisping on the show but was put in jail stemming from a previous DUI charge and by the time he was released (which happened to be yesterday), he would not have enough time to train.

So, for now at least, the card for UFC 85 has a main event of Matt Hughes vs. Thiago Alves with other fights between Michael Bisping and Jason Day, Mike Swick and Marcus Davis, and Fabricio Werdum against Brandon Vera.

William Regal Suspended 60 Days
The News - Wrestling  |   Written by Brian Fritz   |   Tuesday, 20 May 2008

ImageWell, now we know why William Regal lost a "loser gets fired" match on Raw last night. This morning, WWE announced that Regal has been suspended 60 days for violating the Wellness Policy for a second time.

Good for the company for once again sticking with its policy and suspended another top guy like it did a few months back with Jeff Hardy. Unfortunately, it happened to a guy that was one of the best characters on television right now.

WWE Judgment Day Results
The News - Wrestling  |   Written by Brian Fritz   |   Monday, 19 May 2008

Here are the results from the WWE Judgment Day PPV:

- John Cena beat JBL with an FU out of nowhere in the opening contest. Yep, Cena in the opening contest. JBL dominated the match before Cena hit his finisher.
- The Miz and John Morrison defeated CM Punk and Kane to retain the ECW tag-team titles. Yep, Punk was pinned yet again.
- Shawn Michaels beat Chris Jericho in what was probably the best match of the night. The two of them traded near falls during the match but Michaels countered the Walls of Jericho for the win. In the back after the match, Batista confronted HBK and said he would hurt him in the future. Oooohh.
- The Undertaker beat Edge by countout in the match for the World Heavyweight Title. Vickie Guerrero came out and said that since he won by countout, he did not get the title and it was still being held up. Taker then laid out Edge with a tombstone piledriver.
- Jeff Hardy beat MVP in a match that thankfully replaced the Big Show vs. Mark Henry. Hardy got the clean pin after landing the Whisper in the Wind.
- Triple H defeated Randy Orton in a steel cage match to keep the WWE Title. Good, solid match between the two of them with Hunter winning with the Pedigree as he should.

One note about this show - the crowd was not into it at all. About the only time they seemed excited were during the HBK/Jericho match and for The Undertaker. That does not help the show which had some good action but nothing overly memorable.

The Amazing Double KO
The News - Mixed Martial Arts  |   Written by Brian Fritz   |   Monday, 19 May 2008

We've all wondered what happened at the end of Rocky III when Rocky Balboa and Apollo Creed are about trade huge bombs at the same exact time, only to have the moment frozen and leaving our minds to wonder what happened. Well, here is about as close a scenario in a real fight that took place last Friday night at the Legends of Fighting show in Indianapolis, IN.

Amazing! This was the first fight for both Tyler Bryan and Shaun Parker and while it didn't turn out to be a good debut for either of them, it was memorable. By the end, the fight was ruled a technical draw.

Previewing WWE Judgment Day
The News - Wrestling  |   Written by Adam Wilcox   |   Sunday, 18 May 2008
WWE presents the Judgment Day PPV tonight, live from the Qwest Center in Omaha, Nebraska. While the card features a promising lineup on paper, repetition of top matches and lack of build for other bouts has left some viewers disinterested in this event. Nonetheless, here is a closer look at the annual May extravaganza.
