Twenty-four hours removed from the Backlash PPV, Raw takes the air tonight at 9:00 PM on the USA Network (as well as The Score in Canada).
William Regal outlasted seven other competitors in last week’s King of the Ring Tournament to acquire the company throne. Tonight, the Raw General Manager will receive the opportunity to bask in his victory when he is officially crowned “King” of WWE.
Also scheduled to appear are new WWE Champion Triple H, Shawn Michaels, the returning Mr. Kennedy, and others.

PWInsider's Mike Johnson is reporting that a week following his former Tag Team partners' huge win in the King of the Ring tournament, veteran British grappler Dave Taylor has been released from his WWE contract.
Taylor was last seen briefly teaming with Drew McIntyre on SmackDown before both dissapeared from television for quite some time. Taylor's been known to travel to all of the WWE developmental territories to assist in training.
Don't be surprised to see more cuts like this in the coming weeks. WWE tends to always do a little spring cleaning of their talent roster following WrestleMania. Last week, they released three developmental talents from their contracts at Florida Championship Wrestling.
I, personally, hope to god there's no chance of WWE performing a spring cleaning much like they did in 2005 that featured the cut of almost 20 main roster performers such as Billy Gunn, Rhyno, Matt Hardy and others. Comments (1) | Views: 329 | Read more... |

It looks as if the Coach may actually be leaving the announcer's booth. WWE.com is reporting today on it's website that Hardcore Legend and former WWE Champion, Mick Foley will call the World Title Match at Backlash as color commentator with Michael Cole.
This may confirm the rumors of Coach being replaced in the ever rotating door of SmackDown color commentators. It has been reported on several news outlets over the last week that WWE was contacting Foley about the possibility of announcing for the brand. Nothing is as of yet known if this will be permanent or just a one night deal with Foley on color. Comments (3) | Views: 374 | Read more... |

WWE presents their annual April Pay-Per-View, Backlash tonight live from Baltimore, Maryland. This show is largely centered around the fallout of last month’s WrestleMania card, as The Undertaker defends his World Title against Edge in a rematch from the big event. WWE Champion Randy Orton also confronts the two men who tried to strip him of his belt at ‘Mania, John Cena and Triple H, as The Legend Killer puts the strap on the line in a Fatal Four Way Elimination bout also involving JBL.
Matt Hardy will challenge MVP for the U.S. Championship in a long-awaited showdown nine months in the making. These two met at last July’s Great American Bash PPV and later went on to become reluctant WWE Tag Team Champions together in August 2007. MVP was scripted to attack his partner following their title loss three months later, but as fate would have it, Hardy wound up being plagued by legitimate injuries (including a ruptured appendix) which kept him on the shelf until WrestleMania, when he prevented MVP from winning the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. The events surrounding this bout have created an atmosphere of anticipation and I feel the time is the right to put the belt on Hardy and move MVP up the ladder to World Title contention.
Another highly awaited match on the show will feature Shawn Michaels squaring off against Batista. This bout has been booked around The Animal’s resentment of HBK retiring Ric Flair at ‘Mania and the two have delivered some very strong promo segments leading up to tonight. The inclusion of Chris Jericho as special referee may add some intrigue here, but I still feel that the focus of this program should be left on the conflict between Michaels and Batista.
The complete lineup for Backlash is as follows:
WWE Champion Randy Orton vs. JBL vs. John Cena vs. Triple H (Four-way Elimination Match) … World Champion The Undertaker vs. Edge … WWE Women’s Champion Mickie James, Ashley Massaro, Cherry, Kelly Kelly, Michelle McCool, and Maria vs. Beth Phoenix, Melina, Natalya, Jillian Hall, Victoria, and Layla … The Great Khali vs. The Big Show … ECW Champion Kane vs. Chavo Guerrero ... U.S. Champion MVP vs. Matt Hardy ... Shawn Michaels vs. Batista.

If someone in the WWE higher-ups is under the impression that, as long as nobody's dead, there is no such thing as bad publicity than the Presidential Candidates and the mock "Hilary vs Obama" match were publicity gold. The candidates appearance on the program helped lead "WWE Raw" to being one of the most searched terms on MSN\Windows Live search.
Then, to make the week better for the company. Every "mock" show on cable made a mention of the both the pre-tape segments with each candidate and the faux Presidential smackdown. Shows such as Tuesday's Daily Show, VH1's Best Week Ever and E!'s The Soup, all made mention of the broadcast and then took their respective turns giving their sarcasm dripped opinions on the matter.
So while WWE was probably further humiliated in the eyes of public opinion it was everybody's hot list, proving that in an election year any time the Candidates go on national television and do things to embarrass their careers it will lead to increased publicity.
The Daily Show video can be viewed at this link.
Reruns of the Soup and Best Week Ever air all weekend on their respective networks. Be first to comment this article | Views: 262 | Read more... |

In a frantic effort to help what looked to be a sinking PPV, UFC annouced today the instead of the scheduled bout between Rashad Evans and James Irvin headlining the event it will now instead be a middleweight bout between former champion Matt Hughes and Thiago Alves.
The bout between Chris Leben and Michael Bisbing has also been officially added, definitely playing on Bisbing's star power in the U.K. This now brings the number of fights on the card to thirteen.
The UFC website also as interviews with both main event fighters as they both attempt to climb the middleweight ladder. UFC 85 is scheduled to take place Saturday June 7 and will air live in North America at 3 PM ET\Noon PT. Comments (3) | Views: 460 | Read more... |
