Too Much Spirit for Mikey
The News - Wrestling  |   Written by Brian Fritz   |   Monday, 02 June 2008

ImageLooks like former Spirit Squad member Mikey had a little too much spirit last night. According to Mike Johnson at PWInsider.com, he was arrested late last night in Tampa, Florida for DUI.

Michael Brendli twice tested positive for a blood alcohol level over .09 which exceeds the Florida limit of .08.

Brendli is currently training with Florida Championship Wrestling but when police asked who his employer was, he failed to give an answer. He was released this afternoon on $500 bond.

Big Show Not Feeling Good Today
The News - Wrestling  |   Written by Brian Fritz   |   Monday, 02 June 2008

It was not the best of nights for the Big Show at last night's One Night Stand PPV. While he won the Singapore cane match, he was brutalized during the bout with multiple cane shots. One of them cracked him above his left eye which caused him to get seven stitches to close a cut. Plus, his eye has turned a grotesque black and purple and is swollen shut.

You can check out photos of the injury at WWE.com. Basically, it sucks to be the Big Show today.

Orton Injured at One Night Stand
The News - Wrestling  |   Written by Brian Fritz   |   Monday, 02 June 2008

ImageRandy Orton suffered what looks to be a serious injury tonight during his match against Triple H at the WWE One Night Stand PPV.

Orton was thrown out of the ring and fell awkwardly on his left shoulder. He did continue with the match but it did not go much longer and he was obviously favoring his arm. After the match, the announcers said that he likely suffered a broken collarbone.

If that is the case, Orton would probably be sidelined for at least a few months which would be a huge loss for the company. We'll have more on this situation as it develops.

EliteXC Delivers for CBS
The News - Mixed Martial Arts  |   Written by Brian Fritz   |   Monday, 02 June 2008

ImageNo matter what you thought about last night's EliteXC show on CBS, everyone involved with it has to be happy with its numbers. Based on the overnight numbers, the show did a 2.7 network rating. The number does not count the overrun so the final rating will be higher.

The rating grew throughout the show and reached an amazing 4.7 for the Kimbo Slice vs. James Thompson fight which will make it the most watched MMA fight in history. It also finished #1 in the all-important 18-34 and 18-49 demos along with all male demos. While the number wasn't gigantic, it was a huge success.

EliteXC on CBS Results
The News - Mixed Martial Arts  |   Written by Marshall Bowen   |   Sunday, 01 June 2008
Here's the results form EliteXC's debut on CBS on Saturday Night

Main Card
- Brett Rogers def. John Murphy by TKO in the first
- Joey Villasenor def. Phil Baroni by TKO in the first
- Gina Carano def. Kaitlin Young by TKO between the second & third rounds. Young was examined by doctors after the second and the doctor called for the end of the fight.
Carano failed to make weight and agreed to surrender 12% of her purse to Young to keep the fight.
- Middleweight Champion Robbie Lawler vs. Scott Smith went to a no contest when the doctor called for the end of the fight after the second round. Under EliteXC rules all title fights must be three round or end in a no contest. Lawler remains middleweight champion.
- Kimbo Slice def. James Thompson by TKO in the third.
The TKO was considered controversial because Slice hit Thompson's already heavily cauliflowered ear & several shots later a still standing Thompson was ruled TKO'd.

Undertaker Taking Time Off?
The News - Wrestling  |   Written by Greg Atkins   |   Sunday, 01 June 2008
Who else but Mike Johnson of PWInsider would be reporting this, he's one of the best. Apparently, word going around the locker room is that The Undertaker has requested and more than likely will be getting some time off from the company. If you'll remember, the Undertaker, who was being booked as a "special attraction" there for a while, has been a constant performer since early 2006. So this time off coming is no surprise and more than well deserved. It will be interesting, however, to see if this fits in to tonight's extra stipulation (which seems to be getting no buzz at all) of if 'Taker loses against Edge in the TLC match, he must "Leave the WWE".

Benoit Physician Indicted
The News - Wrestling  |   Written by Adam Wilcox   |   Friday, 30 May 2008
Dr. Phil Astin III - the physician who allegedly prescribed steroids and other drugs to Chris Benoit - was indicted yesterday on one-hundred and seventy-five federal counts of illegal prescription abuse.

Authorities originally became interested in Astin following the double-murder suicide involving Chris, Nancy, and Daniel Benoit last June. Further investigation into the doctor’s practice revealed that Astin had apparently prescribed drugs illegally to many patients.
