Jason Powell's PROWRESTLING.NET has posted information from a reader who had noticed that the WWE Cruiserweight Championship is listed as being defunct in WWE.com's title history section. This would suggest that the belt has - for now at least - been rendered dormant.
The last recognized WWE Cruiserweight Champion is Hornswoggle, who won a Cruiserweight Open to claim the title at last year's Great American Bash.

A few weeks ago many people were surprised to see news about other wrestling organizations on WWE.com in a section titled Industry News. Since its introduction it has been reported that the inspiration behind this new section was to revive WWE.com’s stagnating daily unique visitor numbers.
Today LordsofPain.net has reported some more interesting information on the Industry News section. Surprisingly they say that it was Vince McMahon himself who pushed for the section's creation. The article says that Vince “wanted WWE.com to be similar to the Drudge Report and Daily Variety.”
By far my favorite tidbit about the Industry News section from the article is that “one person was hired to be in charge of the "Industry News" section. The person is said to be a very casual wrestling fan who is a fish out of water in the position. They're paying him to surf wrestling news websites and pick out stories to post on WWE.com. The stories this person picks have to be screened by the creative team so that the wrong thing is not posted.”
How awesome is that? This guy works for WWE, surfs the web for wrestling news all day, and gets paid for it. Three words...Best.Job.Ever. I'm sending my resume to the Titan Towers, maybe this position will open up soon.

Looks like EliteXC isn't the only group heading to network TV. MMAjunkie.com is reporting today that the Strikeforce group is soon expected to announce a new television deal with NBC.
According to sources, the announcement should be made in the next week. As part of the deal footage from past Strikeforce events will likely be shown in "highlight" type shows, similar to the Pride shows that currently air on FSN. The first Strikeforce show is expected in April, which would allow it to actually beat Elite XC
to the air by one month, potentially.
The program will likely air in the late Saturday, early Sunday slot immediately following, or shortly after "Saturday Night Live". It is still unconfirmed whether or not live events on the channel are possible. So far, only a highlights show has been confirmed.
This deal comes of the heel of the announcement a few weeks ago that CBS and EliteXC had come to terms on broadcasting events. EliteXC is scheduled to air on CBS in May.
The next Strikeforce show, co-promoted by EltieXC is scheduled to take place March 29 from San Jose, this event airs on Showtime. Comments (1) | Views: 424 | Read more... |
