Sherdog is reporting that B.J. Penn has officially announced on his blog that he will defend his title at the UFC 101 event on Aug. 8 in Philadelphia against Kenny Florian. The blog states that Kenny Florian has already signed on for the fight and that Penn is expected to follow suit.
This will be Penn's first fight following his fourth-round TKO loss against Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre, and all the hell he raised about it, and
it will also be Florian's first fight since winning the number one contention spot against Joe Stevenson, the latest in a six-fight winning streak, at UFC 91 last November.
This fight joins the already announced Couture\Nogueria fight for that card August 8 in Philadelphia. Comments (1) | Views: 434 | Read more... |

The main event for the June 7 WEC event has been announced as a Featherweight Title rematch between current champion Mike Brown and the man he beat for the title Urijah Faber. Many sources, including Five Ounces of Pain have reported the officialism of the fight from close sources to the fighters, despite lacking a formal announcement from WEC officials.
The WEC 41 card will be taking place in Faber's hometown of Sacramento and will be aired on the VERSUS network, as opposed to pay-per-view as previously reported.
This fight will be a rematch of their title fight from the WEC 36 event from this past November. The fight, which was Faber's fifth consecutive defense of the tile, was his first loss since the WEC 25 event and only the second of his professional career. He earned this fight with submission victory over Jens Pulver at the WEC 38 event this past January.
Current champion Mike Brown is currently in the midst of a nine fight winning streak. Formerly a fighter under the BodogFight promotion, he holds notable wins over Yves Edwards, Renato Tavars, Jeff Curan and most recently Leonard Garcia at the WEC 39 event. In order to fight well against Brown, Faber will need to have better tactical skills against a larger opponent if he hopes to regain the title from Brown.
Looks like another great lighter weight headlined card from the WEC promotion in the works. No other matches have been confirmed Comments (2) | Views: 633 | Read more... |

The California State Athletic Commission hasd issued a one year suspension to UFC Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock for allegedly testing positive for three seperate steroids. Five Ounces of Pain
are reporting that this suspension has likely cost Shamrock his final opportunities to recieve a significant amount of money as a professional fighter. This suspension puts the kibash on his planned fight against former WWE wrestler Bobby Lashley at the hybrid boxing\MMA event "March Badness" on March 21.
The camp for Lashley has confimred that Roy Jones Jr.'s Square Ring Promotions, who are promoting the event, are looking for a replacemnt fro the fight against Lashley and that the event will go forth as planned. The Florida Boxing Commission have also confirmed that they will honor the suspension by CSAC.
The only question that comes to mind is what the hell was Ken Shamrock thinking?? The man is nearing the end of a hall of fame career and goes and pulls a stunt like this for headlining a smaller show??? It's going to be interesting to see if Ken can (or should) be able to rebound from this. Be first to comment this article | Views: 522 | Read more... |
