This afternoon, Dan Henderson was the guest on the Jim Rome is Burning show on ESPN. Henderson was his usual low key self as he promoted his fight against Anderson Silva at UFC 82 this Saturday. It's great to see Rome continue with his coverage of mixed martial arts both on his TV and radio shows.

What the heck happened last night to Bob Sapp at the "Strikeforce at the Dome" show? A horrible performance as he lost via TKO in 55 seconds to Jan 'The Giant' Nortje. Sapp blames the poor outing on a bad hamstring but Nortje simply came out and dominated him from the second the bell rang.
Sapp will get more opportunities to fight and will likely be on the first DREAM show in Japan on March 15th. But you have to wonder if 'The Beast' best days fighting are over. There is always pro wrestling for him and the WWE would likely throw a big pile of money his way if he decided to leave HUSTLE. Plus, he has plenty of endorsement opportunities and movies he can take advantage of.

Yes, that is Bob 'The Beast' Sapp who tonight will square off against Jan "The Giant" Nortje at the 'Strikeforce at the Dome' show tonight in Tacoma, Washington. Believe it or not, this is the first time that Sapp has ever fought in the United States after spending his previous years fighting in Japan. The show will air live on HD Net at 10:30pm ET.
Members here on Between The Ropes can now listen to the interview I did with Sapp earlier this week as he discussed this fight, how he has become a Japanese sensation, his involvement with pro wrestling, whether or not he will ever wrestle for the WWE or even TNA and more. Members can listen to the intervew by clicking here.

Well, the lightweight fighter is available as he was given his release from the UFC and is now a free agent. Franca confirmed this in a post on The Underground Forum. Try to follow:
After my fight i was suspended for a year,i could not fight in USA,so i got some calls to fight in canada ,england, japan etc…,so i ask Mr.Joe silva to finish my contract with UFC, i told him i need to fight to make money ,told him to please let me fight and finish my contract( i was out of focus)and his gently did it..So , i spoke with Mr.Armando Garcia, and he told me , if i do some fights out of USA i could not fight in USA anymore never,So i decide don’t fight and wait until july,So now i don’t have any contract, but of course i will try come back to the UFC( just if u guys wish hermes franca back again lol), or wait for another offer from another organization. That’s it.
So Franca asked for and received a release from his UFC contract after being suspended for a year for testing positive for steroids by the California State Athletic Commission. He considered fighting outside of the United States before his suspension was over but was told if he did so, he could never fight again in the United States. That's tough.
But the CSAC has to lay the hammer down. Rules are there for a reason and they have to be enforced. I'm sure that once his suspension is over (July 5, 2008) he will be in high demand and might even return to the UFC.
