Looks like EliteXC isn't the only group heading to network TV. MMAjunkie.com is reporting today that the Strikeforce group is soon expected to announce a new television deal with NBC.
According to sources, the announcement should be made in the next week. As part of the deal footage from past Strikeforce events will likely be shown in "highlight" type shows, similar to the Pride shows that currently air on FSN. The first Strikeforce show is expected in April, which would allow it to actually beat Elite XC
to the air by one month, potentially.
The program will likely air in the late Saturday, early Sunday slot immediately following, or shortly after "Saturday Night Live". It is still unconfirmed whether or not live events on the channel are possible. So far, only a highlights show has been confirmed.
This deal comes of the heel of the announcement a few weeks ago that CBS and EliteXC had come to terms on broadcasting events. EliteXC is scheduled to air on CBS in May.
The next Strikeforce show, co-promoted by EltieXC is scheduled to take place March 29 from San Jose, this event airs on Showtime. Comments (1) | Views: 395 | Read more... |

Bloody Elbow is reporting that Nate Marquardt will take on Thales Leites in the lightweight division and that middleweights Thiago Tavares and Matt Wiman will take each other on at UFC 85 in London.
You may remember that Marquardt v. Leites was originally planned to happen at UFC 81 until Leites withdrew with an injury and Marquardt submitted his replacement Jeremy Horn.
As for Tavares v. Wiman Five Ounces of Pain has this quote from Tavares “I am very happy with the choice of this opponent because he is a tough guy who is coming off three wins in a row, and I think we will make a great fight for the public. I like to face those tougher guys, and I thought this is a great opportunity.”

After essentially clearing out all legitimate challengers in his weight division with his victory over Dan Henderson many people have wondered what could possibly be next for Anderson Silva. Now we might have the answer. According to MMAWeekly.com Silva is expressing serious interest in stepping into the boxing ring to face Roy Jones Jr.
Silva’s motivation for jumping into boxing would be to prove that mixed martial artists are far more technically sound than boxers often give them credit for. Silva’s manager Ed Soares was quoted as saying “We respect Jones’ boxing ability and think he’s one of the best, but we’re tired of different boxers saying that MMA fighters aren’t technical. Anderson would love to fight Roy Jones in a boxing match under boxing rules to prove that MMA fighters are technical, too.”
