World Champion CM Punk opened the broadcast by cutting an in-ring promo to address the controversy surrounding his title defense against Jeff Hardy at The Bash. Punk denied intentionally striking the referee at the PPV to save his belt and showed video footage in an attempt to prove his point. The straightedge star demanded an apology from Hardy, but was instead confronted by General Manager Teddy Long, who announced both a Punk-Jeff rematch at Night of Champions and a tag team main event for later in the show pitting Hardy and Punk against Unified Champions Edge and Chris Jericho. Jeff arrived to confront the Champion and the two almost came to blows, but Punk chose to leave the ring after suggesting that Hardy “Just Say No” to punching him in the face.

Dolph Ziggler over R-Truth via pinfall. Ziggler and Maria were shown backstage prior to the bout speaking about their date the previous night.

Kane over Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio via pinfall in a non-title match. Post-bout, The Great Khali approached Kane with a steel chair to avenge The Big Red Machine’s attack on him at The Bash, but the seven-footer escaped through the crowd.

Cryme Tyme over The Hart Dynasty via Shad’s pinfall on D.H. Smith. No, I don’t understand why, either. Hopefully, this is not a sign of the Canadians’ future on SmackDown.

Maria and Melina over Layla and Women’s Champion Michelle McCool via Melina’s pinfall on Layla.

Unified Tag Team Champions Edge and Chris Jericho over World Champion CM Punk and Jeff Hardy in a non-title match via Edge’s pinfall on Punk. The SmackDown kingpin repeatedly favored his “injured” eye during Hardy’s attempts to tag him, and Jeff later reciprocated when Punk was legal. The dissension on the babyface side allowed Edge to hit a Spear for the victory.
