TNA presented an exciting episode of Impact last night, which centered around a two-bracket tournament to finalize the four-way main event at No Surrender.
Sting over Rhino via pinfall in a No Surrender Tournament Match via pinfall. Post-match, Rhino Gored Sting twice.
AJ Styles over Chris Sabin in a No Surrender Tournament Match via pinfall. This was an excellent short match, which AJ won using his Styles Clash finisher.
Daniels cut an in-ring promo calling out X Division Champion Samoa Joe. Upon Joe’s arrival, Daniels reminded him of Unbreakable 2005, where the two of them along with AJ Styles headlined the PPV with an outstanding three-way match and cemented the X Division as an integral part of TNA (seems like a century ago, doesn’t it?). Daniels asked Joe how his family could respect him after he sold out to the Main Event Mafia, a remark which The Samoan Submission Machine answered by laying out Daniels with a suplex.
Doug Williams over Suicide via pinfall in a No Surrender Tournament Match. Williams capitalized on a distraction by D’Angelo Dinero and hit his patented rolling German suplex for the three-count.
Tara and Christy Hemme over Sojo Bolt and Hamada in a Knockouts Tag Team Title Tournament Match via Tara’s pinfall on Bolt. Post-bout, Hamada dropped Bolt with her Hamada Driver.
Hernandez over Homicide via pinfall in a No Surrender Tournament Match via pinfall. This was a decent enough contest between the two LAX members, although it seemed like a waste of a match to be thrown on free television with almost no build. Homicide reluctantly shook his partner’s hand afterward.
AJ Styles over Doug Williams via pinfall in the No Surrender Bracket Two Tournament Final. Another great match from Styles, who advanced to the four-way World Championship main event at the PPV with this victory.
Sting over Hernandez via disqualification in the No Surrender Bracket One Tournament Final following interference by Eric Young. The World Elite leader - disguised as Hernandez LAX’ partner Homicide - attacked Sting on the outside, causing the DQ. A brawl then erupted pitting Team 3D, Sting, AJ Styles, and Beer Money, Inc. against the Elite, Booker T, and Scott Steiner. The show closed with the World Tag Team Champions putting James Storm through a table.
This was one of the best Impacts I can remember in quite some time. I enjoyed almost all of the tournament matches and liked how the entire competition played out for the duration of the broadcast. Perhaps those in TNA Creative will begin to realize that an occasional wrestling-heavy show is not such a bad thing.
