WWE Raw Recap - 9/28/2009

Last night's PPV go-home episode of Raw included a Unified Tag Team Championship match, WWE Titleholder John Cena competing in a Gauntlet main event, and more.

The program opened with Mark Henry and Montel Vontavious Porter in MVP’s VIP Lounge. As Porter prepared to welcome special guest host the Rev. Al Sharpton to his show, Unified Tag Team Champions Chris Jericho and The Big Show arrived to interrupt. Both MVP and Jericho eventually provided the introductions for Sharpton, who proceeded to book an immediate Tag Title bout between the two duos. This was a long but solid match, won by Show and Jericho after the former Y2J capitalized on a huge punch from his partner to score the three-count on MVP.

Divas Champion Mickie James over Rosa Mendes via pinfall in a non-title match.

Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes cut a promo and recapped the damage they have inflicted upon D-Generation X in recent weeks. Shawn Michaels and Triple H appeared in the stands and jawed with the Legacy members before finally making their way to the ring, prompting Rhodes and DiBiase to flee. Hunter took the microphone and vowed that this Sunday’s Hell in the Cell PPV would be “pure Hell” for the young grapplers.

Jack Swagger over Evan Bourne via pinfall. This was a very good short match. Post-bout, The Miz confronted Swagger and the two brawled, allowing Kofi Kingston to reclaim his U.S. belt (which Swagger had worn to the ring).

Chris Masters and Chavo Guerrero over Hornswoggle and Santino Marella via Masters’ submission on Marella. Masters’ slapped the Masterlock on Hornswoggle afterward, and the leprechaun was rescued by Chavo. I will not even begin to point out the absurdity of this.

WWE Champion John Cena wrestled Chris Jericho, The Big Show, and Randy Orton in a Gauntlet Match to close the show. Both Jericho and Show were disqualified in their contests, and seemingly left Cena vulnerable for Orton in the final bout. However, the Raw kingpin rose to his feet and called for the Hell in the Cell structure to be lowered around the ring. Orton attempted to escape, and the two eventually ended up on top of the Cell, where Cena delivered an Attitude Adjustment to his future PPV challenger.

On a personal note, this will be my final article for the Between The Ropes website, and I would like to thank everyone who has ever taken the time to check out my work over the past year and a half. It has been a privilege to be associated with BTR. Thanks so much to everybody.

I hope for the best in your future endeavors.

BTW what's the deal with Cena getting damn near killed and then no-selling it to take out Orton?

With RAW going head to head with Monday Night Football, an American Institution and ratings Juggernaut, they're going to have to do better than Al Sharpton's half-assed James Brown dance. They HAVE to do better than that. It'll be kind of funny to see Roethlisberger on RAW next week. That's like MNF having John Cena stop by in the commentating booth while RAW is going on. Strange.
