Tonight’s Smackdown features one on one contests between Matt Hardy and Batista, R Truth and CM Punk, a 6 man tag team match with John Morrison, and Cyme Tyme, taking on the Hart Dynasty, and Dolph Ziggler. Also, few announcements regarding the upcoming Survivor Series PPV, plus much more.

Tonight we emanate from beautiful Providence, Rhode Island.

We begin with World Heavyweight Champion The Undertaker walking to the ring. He cuts an in-ring promo about how he got his start at Survivor Series. He runs down his two opponents for the title match at the SS PPV. He says that both fighting side by side with his brother Kane and fighting against him bring joy to his dark heart. Chris Jericho took the second one away last week, and at the SS PPV Jericho’s soul will be his. This, of course, brings Jericho to the ring. He says the word “phenom” better describes himself. He says Taker has been brainwashing these “gelatinous tapeworms” (meaning the fans) into believing that he’s a dead man. He gets into the ring and says he isn’t afraid because Taker is just a man. A fight ensues that ends with Jericho scampering outside the ring. Here’s another look at the Batista beat down of Rey Mysterio at the Bragging Rights PPV.

Dolph Ziggler and the Hart Dynasty vs. Intercontinental Champion John Morrison and Cryme Tyme in a six man tag team match.
JTG takes most of the punishment here with several tags by the heel team. A hot tag to Morrison results in a Flying Chuck kick to DH Smith. Endgame: Morrison tags in Gaspard who gets in some offense before Ziggler hits him with a Sex Addict for the 1-2-3. Your winners as a result of a pinfall, Dolph Ziggler and The Hart Dynasty.

After break, we see a sit-down locker room interview with Josh Matthews and Rey Mysterio. Rey speaks Spanish for a while. (I think he says something about Batista being family.) Josh says that Teddy Long made it official, and the two will face each other at the SS PPV. Rey says Batista will see a side of him he hasn’t seen before.

Beth Phoenix vs. Brittany Carter. (who?)
In a match that can only be a set up for a run-in, Beth makes short work of Ms. Carter. Endgame: Phoenix nails Carter with the Glam Slam for the 1-2-3. (no run-in.. weird) Your winner as a result of a pinfall, Beth Phoenix.

Drew McIntyre vs. Jimmy Wang Yang
Pre-match. Yang ascends the top rope, and McIntyre pushes him off all the way to the floor. Drew grabs the mic and says he wants some real competition, and leaves the ring. Yang crawls back into the ring and wants referee L’il Naitch Robinson to ring the bell. It rings, Drew returns, and despite Yang’s best efforts, Drew still beats the crap out of him. Endgame: Clothesline, mount, punches, double-underhook DDT for the 1-2-3. Your winner as a result of a pinfall, Drew McIntyre.

Backstage, Josh Matthews interviews Batista. He asks him why he attacked Matt Hardy last week. (I must’ve fat fingered my DVR FFW right through and missed it. Sorry, dear reader). Batista he says he’ll go through everyone to be the World Heavyweight Champion.

Rey Mysterio vs. Mike Knox
Knox uses his size to punish Rey in and out of the ring. Knox gets Rey in a bear hug, that Rey counters. Knox isn’t done, as he hits Rey with a mid-ring splash for a near fall. Knox gets Rey in an abdominal stretch slam for a near fall. (suddenly it’s 1987 all over again, and I’m watching WWF Wrestling Spotlight. I half expect a run from Iron Mike Sharpe and his black arm cast). Endgame: With Rey in the corner, Knox misses a shoulder tackle, which causes his shoulder to collide with the steel post. Rey hits the 619 and the springboard splash for the 1-2-3. Your winner as a result of a pinfall, Rey Mysterio.

CM Punk vs. R Truth
Punk is in the ring before the match jawing with referee Scott Armstrong. Good match in and out of the ring. Before a mid-match ad break, (grrrrr), Grisham says Punk is the “choice of a new generation”. HA! (think about it). Endgame: Punk hits Truth with a leg lariat, Armstrong counts 2, Punk gets in Armstrong’s face, tells him to count faster, and Truth rolls him up for a fast 1-2-3. Your winner as a result of a (fast) pinfall, R Truth.

Backstage, we see Mickie James, Layla and Michelle McCool arguing. Mickie is the captain of one of the Diva teams at the SS PPV. After she’s done with that, she’s coming after McCool’s title.

Here’s a recap of last weeks attack on Matt Hardy by Batista. (oh… yeah, I totally missed that).

Matt Hardy vs. Batista
Very slow paced match here. Dave keeps Matt on the ummm… mat in the early stages of it with a variety of rest holds like a camel clutch, leg scissors, etc. Endgame: Hardy hits a Twist of Fate, Batista grabs the bottom rope, and nails Matt with a spine buster. Matt rolls out of the ring and Dave gives chase. He proceeds to pummel Matt using the announcers table, and the TV monitor. This gets him disqualified, but he’s not done beating Matt senseless. He rolls Matt into the ring, and just as he goes for the Batista-bomb. He shoves Matt aside. Your winner as a result of a disqualification, Matt Hardy.

We learn that next week there will be a match between Chris Jericho and The Undertaker.

Good night from Providence.
