Anderson Silva Thinking About Boxing Roy Jones Jr.
The News - Mixed Martial Arts  |   Written by Adam Samons   |   Wednesday, 12 March 2008
After essentially clearing out all legitimate challengers in his weight division with his victory over Dan Henderson many people have wondered what could possibly be next for Anderson Silva. Now we might have the answer. According to MMAWeekly.com Silva is expressing serious interest in stepping into the boxing ring to face Roy Jones Jr.

Silva’s motivation for jumping into boxing would be to prove that mixed martial artists are far more technically sound than boxers often give them credit for. Silva’s manager Ed Soares was quoted as saying “We respect Jones’ boxing ability and think he’s one of the best, but we’re tired of different boxers saying that MMA fighters aren’t technical. Anderson would love to fight Roy Jones in a boxing match under boxing rules to prove that MMA fighters are technical, too.”

As good as Silva is in MMA, if he fights Jones - in a boxing ring/under boxing rules - there's only ever going to be one winner...

Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm thinking too. Any mixed martial artist v. boxer fights are determined less by who's more talented and more by what rules are used.

Even though Roy is well past his prime, Anderson will get KTFO. It will set MMA back slightly, but boost boxing more.

The "boxing is dead" type MMA fans will start giving boxing a chance. But the "MMA has no skill" type boxing fan won't give MMA shot because one of the top MMA "thugs" got KTFO'd by a past his prime former Champion.

Mr. Silva! DON'T DO IT!

It will not end well for MMA fans.

The only way something like this should happen is if it's a MMA match, in which Silva would destroy him. OR, if the two decide it'll be TWO fights, with one being MMA and one being a Boxing match.

The more I think about it the more I like Joegr's idea of 2 matches, 1 MMA and 1 boxing. I think it would probably help show people that are strictly fans of one of the sports what the other sport has to offer.
