This episode of Smackdown features 5 Elimination Chamber PPV qualifying matches featuring Matt Hardy vs. Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio vs. Dolph Ziggler, and Drew McIntyre vs. John Morrison vs. Kane in a triple threat. All this, plus a whole lot more.

Tonight we emanate from beautiful Memphis, Tennessee.

We begin with Chris Jericho cutting an in-ring promo. He’s in a somber mood here. He blames Edge for him not winning the Royal Rumble. Somber eventually turns into anger, and he calls out Teddy Long, who doesn’t come out, so Jericho goes to find him. He has the mic and is backstage looking for Teddy, accosting talent and stage hands along the way. He goes into an office, and finds Edge. The Rated R Superstar says Jericho has created a monster, and Chris will regret that Edge came back. Tonight, he’s bringing back the Cutting Edge show with The Undertaker as his guest.

Drew McIntyre vs. John Morrison vs. Kane in a No DQ Elimination Chamber qualifying triple threat match.
It would have been nice to see Morrison vs. McIntyre again one on one. I still think this feud has legs. Drew and John actually work together at one point, dropping Kane with a double DDT. Other than that, typical triple threat match here, false finishes and 2 counts aplenty. Endgame: McIntyre hits Kane with the title belt and proceeds to DDT him on it. As he pins Kane, Morrison kicks Drew off of him, climbs the ropes and nails Kane with Starship Pain for the 1-2-3. Your winner as a result of a pinfall, John Morrison.

R-Truth vs. Mike Knox in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match.
Incredibly short squash match here. Endgame: R-Truth catches Knox with a flying forearm for the 1-2-3. Your winner as a result of a pinfall, R-Truth.

A clip is shown from what happened after Raw went off the air Monday night. John Cena came to the ring to help Bret Hart. After initially chasing off Batista, the Animal returned to the ring and unleashed hell on Cena. He threw him shoulder first into the ringpost, slid him across the announce table, hit him in the head with the steel steps, and Batista-Bombed him right onto the steps in the ring.

Backstage, the Straight Edge Society shares a moment. CM Punk wants to know what they’re willing to do to protect their savior in his match against Batista tonight. Gallows and Serena both say they’re willing to do anything.

Batista vs. CM Punk in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match.
Pre-match, Batista bails out of the ring and gets counted out. Your winner as a result of a countout, CM Punk. Ok then.

Backstage, Matt Hardy and Maria share a moment. He congratulates her on being on the Celebrity Apprentice. Don’t tell anyone, but he loves that show.

Matt Hardy vs. Chris Jericho in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match.
Slow paced, methodical match here. Both guys get in an even amount of offense. Endgame: Jericho hits the Codebreaker for the 1-2-3. Your winner as a result of a pinfall, Chris Jericho.

New Women’s Champion Mickie James cuts an in-ring promo. She’s interrupted by Beth Phoenix. They get interrupted by Vickie Guerrero. She puts them into a tag match vs. Team Lay-Cool.

Team Lay-Cool vs. Mickie James and Beth Phoenix in a tag team match.
Beth starts the match against Michelle McCool and pummels her mercilessly. It was short lived though. Endgame: Beth tags in Mickie James, and as Mickie turns her attention to McCool, Beth punches James with a right hand, knocking her down. She gives the same treatment to McCool, then bails out of the ring. Layla is close enough to tag herself in. As she does, Mickie rolls her up for the 1-2-3. Your winners as a result of a pinfall, Mickie James and Beth Phoenix.

Cryme Tyme has a “word up” segment. Today’s word is “King”. They mention BB King, and The King Elvis Presley. They bring in Jerry “The King” Lawler, mention puppies, and the segment is over.

Rey Mysterio vs. Dolph Ziggler in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match.
During ad break before the match, we see a promo for a new WWE show NXT. The match itself is pretty good for free-tv. It looks like Ziggler might be done with his feud with Kane. He gives Mysterio a run for his money, but in the end, he just can’t keep Rey down. Endgame: Ziggler tries an atomic drop, but Rey counters and rolls him up for the 1-2-3. Your winner as a result of a pinfall, Rey Mysterio. Post-match, Ziggler tries to attack Rey from behind, but Mysterio gives him the old “ole’”, and nails him with the 619 instead.

Edge holds a “Cutting Edge” segment. He’s supposed to talk with the World Heavyweight Champion The Undertaker. Instead, he is interrupted by Chris Jericho. The two have a good back and forth argument until they are interrupted by CM Punk and the SES. Punk says he’s better than the two men in the ring and will win the Elimination Chamber. Just as he says that, the lights go out, and gong rings. The lights come back on, and The Undertaker is in in the ring. He takes out the SES, and Edge takes out Jericho. As Taker turns around, Edge is smiling as if he was about to spear him. Edge then does the universal hand gesture signifying he wants Taker’s title belt.

Fade to black, good night from Memphis.
