This episode of Raw features a one on one match between WWE Champ Sheamus and ECW Champ Christian, plus a triple threat elimination match for the Unified Tag Team Titles, and Bret Hart returns to face Vince McMahon. All this plus a whole lot more.
Tonight we emanate from beautiful Lafayette, Louisiana.
We begin with tonight’s special guest host Carl Edwards doing doughnuts in the parking lot with his #99 Aflac Ford Fusion. He drives it right into the arena, only, that’s not Edwards getting out of the car, it’s Hornswoggle. Kelly Kelly then introduces Edwards who is escorted by The Bella Twins to the ring. He does his patented backflip that he does when he wins races, only this time, he does it from the top rope. He reminds us that this Sunday is the Daytona 500 (I‘ll be there). He says he has a friend in the WWE, John Cena. He is interrupted by Sheamus. He demands that Edwards makes him the last participant in the Elimination Chamber match. They get interrupted by the ECW Champion Christian. He angers Sheamus, by interrupting him. Christian says he was offended at first by Edge not wanting to challenge him at Wrestlemania, but it all made sense when Mr. McMahon said in 2 weeks ECW will be going off the air. Sheamus says that makes Christian a lame duck champion. Christian says that in 2 weeks, ECW superstars will be free agents and can sign with any show they want. He says he will test the waters and challenges Sheamus to a match tonight. Edwards calls for a referee, and makes the match… right now!
ECW Champion Christian vs. WWE Champion Sheamus.
Not a bad match by any stretch. Sheamus uses his power moves, and Christian his scrappiness and ring savvy to his advantage, for a while, until… Endgame: Sheamus kicks Christian in the face, and drops him with the Crucifix Powerbomb for the 1-2-3. Your winner as a result of a pinfall, Sheamus.
DX are in the locker room, and they share a moment. HBK says that DX has never been to a Wrestlemania. HHH says he did qualify for the Elimination Chamber, and he’s going win, and go on to Wrestlemania as the WWE Champion. Shawn: “So it’s all about you now?”
Legacy is in the locker room, and they share a moment. Rhodes is whining, and DiBiase says he’s better than Cody. They are interrupted by Randy Orton. He says that tonight, Ted will be facing John Cena. Cody tries to make amends for causing him the match at the Royal Rumble. Randy says he knows Cody meant well, and he appreciates the effort. By the way, Cody will be facing Randy tonight.
Unified Tag Team Champions DX vs. The Straight Edge Society vs. The Miz and Big Show in a triple threat elimination match.
Pre-match, CM Punk does his whole straight edge shtick. He points out that there’s a “celebrity” in the crowd, and Hey! There’s Jared from Subway. Punk invites him into the ring, and he declines. Punk dispatches Gallows and Serena to fetch him. Just when they’re about to grab him, DX interrupts the party. Once the match itself starts, we see Teddy Long sitting ringside. Action aplenty throughout the match. Punk gets eliminated by HBK after Sweet Chin Music. Show then continues to punish him. After taking more abuse from Show and Miz, he gets the hot tag to HHH. Endgame: After HHH cleans house, Shawn hot tags himself in. While he and HHH argue, Miz comes in and rolls up HBK for the 1-2-3. Your winners AND NEW Unified Tag Team Champions, The Miz and The Big Show. Post-match, HHH and HBK yell at each other in the ring, and Shawn storms out.
Backstage, Josh Matthews interviews Miz and Show. Apparently now they’re “Show-Miz.”
Backstage, HBK corners Teddy Long. He wants to be traded to Smackdown, so he can take out one of the participants in the Elimination Chamber match. Win that match, and go on to give The Undertaker his rematch at Wrestlemania. Teddy says he can’t do that. This enrages HBK, who grabs Teddy. They get interrupted by HHH, who asks Shawn if this obsession is worth his career. Shawn: “My career is over.” He delivers Sweet Chin Music to Teddy Long.
Gail Kim vs. Jillian in a Divas match.
Maryse is on color commentary. She calls out the Smackdown Divas for their treatment of Mickie James. The match itself is thankfully quick. Endgame: Gail hits an inverted face-stomper on Jillian for the 1-2-3. Post-match, Maryse plays nice-nice with Gail. She speaks French, wishes her luck, and shakes her hand.
We learn that The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
Backstage, Edwards, Jared, Santino, Kofi, Subway jokes, go. We learn that Jerry Springer will be guest host next week.
Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton.
Orton starts out the match berating Cody, who isn’t backing down. He puts up a good fight, nailing him with a dropkick and a side Russian leg sweep. Orton delivers some offense of his own and is ready to pounce until this happens. Endgame: Sheamus pokes his head into the ring and distracts Randy. Rhodes then nails Orton with the Cross-Rhodes (where you won’t be lonely) for the 1-2-3. Your winner as a result of a pinfall, Cody Rhodes. Post-match, Sheamus goes into the ring, and kicks Orton in the head. Just as he’s about to inflict more injury, Rhodes enters with a chair, and Sheamus retreats.
Backstage, Carl Edwards announces matches for next week featuring all six wrestlers from the Elimination Chamber match: Sheamus vs. Randy Orton, Ted DiBiase vs. Kofi Kingston, HHH vs. John Cena.
Ted DiBiase vs. John Cena.
Cena attacks Ted before the bell. He throws Ted outside the ring and against the security wall. He puts him in the STF outside, and Ted taps. John lets him up as the refs arrive to break it up, and Cena grabs a mic. He didn’t come to have a match, he ain’t wasting no more time. He doesn’t know why Batista attacked him last week, he just wants a fight. He calls out Batista to come out and finish the job. He’s not going anywhere until he does. After ad break, Cena is still the ring, and he believes that Vince McMahon is behind the attack. Since Dave Batista isn’t coming out, he wants to talk to Mr. McMahon. Vince comes out with 10 security guards in tow. After Cena convinces him to come into the ring, he does, and wants to talk man to man. Vince reminds Cena that he is the SUPREME alpha male. When God created the heavens, it wasn’t Adam that He had in mind, it was Vince! He admits to compensating Dave for attacking Bret Hart last week. He says he had nothing to do with Batista attacking Cena, who wants to know why. Vince says maybe it’s because John eliminated him in the Royal Rumble, or maybe it’s because he doesn’t like you. He doesn’t like John either personally, but business-wise… Cena cuts him off. It’s all about the money isn’t it? You do this for money. Cena does it for the moment. Cena gets a cheap pop, Foley-style, by mentioning the Super Bowl. He says he will win the Elimination Chamber, and go on to Wrestlemania with the belt held high. He drops Bret Hart’s name. He talked to him last week, and apparently Bret wants another moment. He wants a match vs. Vince McMahon at Wrestlemania. Vince says that’s the one thing he doesn’t want. Cena says now’s Vince’s chance for a Wrestlemania moment. What’s it going to be, yes or no? Vince yells Yes Yes Yes! Cena thanks Vince for telling him to his face, and says there’s one more person to thank, Bret Hart. Cena leaves. Vince agrees, and says Bret doesn’t want any part of this, because of what happened last week. He then plays a video recap of last week’s beat down. Afterward, Bret comes to the ring, and rains down punches on Vince. Security comes to the ring, and breaks it up. Bret dispatches security and McMahon retreats, saying he’s changed his mind, there won’t be a match at Wrestlemania because Bret deserves to be screwed. Bret becomes unhinged and starts breaking everything. He gets in the ring and looks up at the Wrestlemania XXVI sign.
Fade to black, good night from Lafayette.
