Buck Woodward of PWInsider.com has posted a piece breaking down Ric Flair's career World Title history in an attempt to decipher just how many times Flair has claimed a wrestling company’s big strap (based on the article, it would appear that WWE’s proclamation of Flair as a sixteen-time Champion is not even close to accurate).

I read the article and no wonder no one can get his title count straight. This is way to complicated to get a "real" total. 
 
But I guess it does not really matter. Flair is Flair. The true "great one" of pro wrestling. You have to respect his accomplishments and his longevity in the sport. Woooooooooo!

It matters to me because I don't want to see HHH break the record and 21 title reigns would be a stretch even for him.

it doesn't matter. What DOES matter is how many times Flair unselfishly and professionally put over others.
