It's official, James Irvin will take on Rashad Evans as the main event for the June 7 UFC 85 card. Irvin replaces Chuck Liddell, who was forced out earlier this week with a torn hamstring. MMA Junkie is reporting. Irvin has won three out of the last four fights - all of them in th UFC. This is also now a match featuring two replacement fighters. As Rashad Evans was the replacement for Liddell's original opponent Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. Also annouced on the Monday announcement of Liddell's injury is the possibility of adding a middleweight fight between Chris Leben and Michael Bisbing. Probably to help the buy rate on the usually poorly performing England pay-per-views.
Posted by: A Team Called Quest at 04-23-2008 21:11 I would have loved to see Dan Henderson step in and face Evans. It might be a bit of a quick turn around for Hendo but a way longer layoff than Irvin is going to have. Posted by: Gareth at 04-24-2008 13:27 I just feel bad for the people who have shelled out big money to see Liddell. Obviously injuries do occur but I would have expected a better replacement than Irvin. Even if the Bisping fight is added, it won't bump buy-rates up much. Posted by: JROCK at 04-24-2008 21:12 Irvin may not be a big name but i think he's deserving of this, and with or without chuck it should be a good show, but im saving my money for the may PPV Posted by: riot at 04-25-2008 10:51 i'm sorry but your writing sucks. fritz, teach the man to write a simple sentence Write Comment
