Previewing WWE Backlash
The News - Wrestling  |   Written by Adam Wilcox   |   Sunday, 27 April 2008
WWE presents their annual April Pay-Per-View, Backlash tonight live from Baltimore, Maryland. This show is largely centered around the fallout of last month’s WrestleMania card, as The Undertaker defends his World Title against Edge in a rematch from the big event. WWE Champion Randy Orton also confronts the two men who tried to strip him of his belt at ‘Mania, John Cena and Triple H, as The Legend Killer puts the strap on the line in a Fatal Four Way Elimination bout also involving JBL.

Matt Hardy will challenge MVP for the U.S. Championship in a long-awaited showdown nine months in the making. These two met at last July’s Great American Bash PPV and later went on to become reluctant WWE Tag Team Champions together in August 2007. MVP was scripted to attack his partner following their title loss three months later, but as fate would have it, Hardy wound up being plagued by legitimate injuries (including a ruptured appendix) which kept him on the shelf until WrestleMania, when he prevented MVP from winning the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. The events surrounding this bout have created an atmosphere of anticipation and I feel the time is the right to put the belt on Hardy and move MVP up the ladder to World Title contention.

Another highly awaited match on the show will feature Shawn Michaels squaring off against Batista. This bout has been booked around The Animal’s resentment of HBK retiring Ric Flair at ‘Mania and the two have delivered some very strong promo segments leading up to tonight. The inclusion of Chris Jericho as special referee may add some intrigue here, but I still feel that the focus of this program should be left on the conflict between Michaels and Batista.

The complete lineup for Backlash is as follows:

WWE Champion Randy Orton vs. JBL vs. John Cena vs. Triple H (Four-way Elimination Match) … World Champion The Undertaker vs. Edge … WWE Women’s Champion Mickie James, Ashley Massaro, Cherry, Kelly Kelly, Michelle McCool, and Maria vs. Beth Phoenix, Melina, Natalya, Jillian Hall, Victoria, and Layla … The Great Khali vs. The Big Show … ECW Champion Kane vs. Chavo Guerrero ... U.S. Champion MVP vs. Matt Hardy ... Shawn Michaels vs. Batista.

I\'m very interested on the US title match between Matt Hardy and MVP, and the Shawn Michaels and Batista match with Chris Jericho as guest referee. Those matches play a huge role in what\'s to come in the months ahead. Randy Orton, Undertaker and Kane will retain their titles at the backlash p.p.v and big show will end the great khali\'s career (for a while). Personally i like to see hhh as wwe champion again and for batista to turn heel in one night.

If HHH is going to win the title, I expect Orton to be the first one Eliminated. And damn, I am really not interested in this match at allll !

I guess HHH proved you wrong after he pinned randy orton to win the wwe title, huh? : )Now for John Cena Vs Triple h (but that probably won't happen for a few months)
