TNA Impact Recap - 5/15/2008
The News - Wrestling  |   Written by Adam Wilcox   |   Friday, 16 May 2008
TNA presented the post-Sacrifice edition of Impact last night, featuring new Tag Team Champions LAX in action, a Knockout Title Match between Gail Kim and Awesome Kong, a marriage proposal, and a six-man main event.

TNA Champion Samoa Joe began the program by announcing that this year’s King of the Mountain Match at Slammiversary would feature eight wrestlers battling for the World Title. Joe further stated that Jim Cornette had allowed him the opportunity to choose four of the participants (to be revealed next week). After Joe read off Cornette’s KOTM selections - Robert Roode, James Storm, Matt Morgan, and Tomko - he was confronted by Booker T, who accused the Heavyweight Titleholder of ducking him. Booker slapped Joe across the face and was run off by Christian Cage and Rhino. Joe later teamed with Rhino and Cage to defeat Booker and Team 3D in the main event.

Jay Lethal dropped to one knee and proposed a Slammiversary wedding to SoCal Val following a six-man tag team bout. Val replied “Ohhh, yeah!” much to the dismay of a shocked Sonjay Dutt.

Gail Kim challenged Awesome Kong for the Knockout Title in the best match of the night. Both women scored several near falls before interference from Angelina Love allowed Kong to execute her patented Awesome Bomb and remain Champion.

Kurt Angle read a speech stating that he would forgive his wife Karen’s shortcomings as a spouse and allow she and their children to move back into the Angle home, provided Karen remembered that she - along with the kids - are the number-three priority in his life behind the TNA World Title and his gold medal. Kurt invited Karen to appear on next week’s Impact and publicly deliver her answer. This was a hilarious promo, which was unfortunately marred by production problems when the show cut to commercials during the segment.

In other news, a video was shown of a straitjacketed Abyss, who had admitted himself to a mental institution. Also, the first part of a multi-piece interview with Sting was presented, where The Stinger spoke on the early years of his career working for Jerry Jarrett and teaming with Jim “The Ultimate Warrior” Hellwig.

Match Results: Kaz, Sonjay Dutt, and Jay Lethal over The Rock ‘N Rave Infection and Johnny Devine via Kaz’ pinfall on Hoyt … Knockout Champion Awesome Kong over Gail Kim via pinfall following interference from Angelina Love … Tag Team Champions LAX over The Motor City Machineguns in a non-title match via Homicide’s pinfall on Chris Sabin … The Beautiful People (Angelina Love and Velvet Sky) over ODB and Roxxi Laveaux via Sky’s pinfall on ODB … TNA Champion Samoa Joe, Christian Cage, and Rhino over Booker T and Team 3D via Joe’s pinfall on Brother Devon.
