Last night's Smackdown featured a host of enjoyable matches, as well as a decision regarding the still-vacant World Title.
General Manager Vicki Guerrero opened the broadcast by announcing a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs Match for One Night Stand pitting The Undertaker against Edge. Furthermore, Vicki ruled that ‘Taker will be banished from WWE should he lose the bout (No explanation was given regarding where on Earth the Smackdown GM obtained the power to prevent a wrestler from appearing on all three brands). Vicki later signed Chavo Guerrero to oppose The Dead Man in the main event. After referee Charles Robinson ordered Curt Hawkins, Zack Ryder, and Edge to the back, Undertaker caught Chavo coming off of the top turnbuckle and drove him to the mat with a Tombstone piledriver for the victory.
Montel Vontavious Porter welcomed Theodore Long to the VIP Lounge. MVP began to verbally berate Long for what he felt was unfair treatment during Teddy’s tenure in the General Manager’s office. Batista arrived to interrupt the former U.S. Champion’s tirade and proceeded to tear apart the Lounge set. MVP stormed into Vicki Guerrero’s office and demanded that she take action; the GM responded by placing him in a match against Batista, an entertaining contest which The Animal won using his patented Batista Bomb.
This was a very good show featuring many solid and well-worked matches, particularly the Kingston/Hardy-Benjamin/Burke, Finlay-Palumbo, and Batista-MVP bouts.
Match Results: Maryse, Deuce, and Domino over Cherry, Jesse, and Festus via Maryse’ pinfall on Cherry … Finlay over Chuck Palumbo via pinfall following interference by Hornswoggle … Batista over MVP via pinfall … Vladimir Kozlov over Nunzio via pinfall … Kofi Kingston and U.S. Champion Matt Hardy over Shelton Benjamin and Elijah Burke via Kingston’s pinfall on Benjamin … The Undertaker over Chavo Guerrero via pinfall.
