EliteXC on CBS Results
The News - Mixed Martial Arts  |   Written by Marshall Bowen   |   Sunday, 01 June 2008
Here's the results form EliteXC's debut on CBS on Saturday Night

Main Card
- Brett Rogers def. John Murphy by TKO in the first
- Joey Villasenor def. Phil Baroni by TKO in the first
- Gina Carano def. Kaitlin Young by TKO between the second & third rounds. Young was examined by doctors after the second and the doctor called for the end of the fight.
Carano failed to make weight and agreed to surrender 12% of her purse to Young to keep the fight.
- Middleweight Champion Robbie Lawler vs. Scott Smith went to a no contest when the doctor called for the end of the fight after the second round. Under EliteXC rules all title fights must be three round or end in a no contest. Lawler remains middleweight champion.
- Kimbo Slice def. James Thompson by TKO in the third.
The TKO was considered controversial because Slice hit Thompson's already heavily cauliflowered ear & several shots later a still standing Thompson was ruled TKO'd.

Good first CBS show. Production was fantastic. Besides the controversial ending which elite xc seems to always have, it was a good show.

Thompson was owning Kimbo on the ground until the ref made them stand up. Bullshit call. I think EliteXC is taking it easy on Kimbo to make him look good. He's their superstar. But he sucks and his weaknesses are easily exploited by anyone with a Ground Game.

If anyone from UFC saw that shit, they've got to be glad that their rookie superstar's name is Brock Lesnar instead of Kimbo Slice. Brock would kick Kimbo's ass.

The show was perfect in my opinion. Not a single fight went to decision, each fight was decent or really good. And damn Scott Smith has alot of heart and Gina can kick ass even when she's wounded. If I was UFC, I'd be pissed about not being on a network.

This event was good for MMA publicity but shitty for EliteXC. Horrible calls in a title match and the main event? Great way to give your promotion exposure.

I don't think Dana is going to be too nervous about this promotion for a while.

The main event was like a 2 on 1 handicap match between Kimbo vs. the team of James Thompson and his ear.

I thought the whole event was entertaining, if a bit disappointing (especially the Lawler/Smith match).

I don't think it deserved the tear-down that Kevin Iole gave it on Yahoo!, though.

You know XC made the ref call it for Kimbo...... BS call, but you knew it was going to go that way cause there was no way they were going to have their poster boy lose on the main card...
