WWE Raw Recap - 6/16/2008
The News - Wrestling  |   Written by Adam Wilcox   |   Tuesday, 17 June 2008
Last night's Raw featured a Street Fight, the continuation of McMahon's Million Dollar Mania, Triple H and Chris Jericho wrestling in the main event, and more.

John Cena began the show by predicting that his WWE Championship showdown with Triple H at Night of Champions would be a moment which fans would remember forever. Hunter interrupted his PPV foe’s promo and stated that their rivalry is quickly becoming personal due to Cena’s interference during his match with Jeff Hardy last week. The Game took a cheap shot at Cena by stating that most of the Chain Gang would be spared the sight of their hero losing at NOC, because it would be past their bedtime. The two appeared headed for a brawl, but Vince McMahon appeared and instead ordered a Street Fight between Cena and Umaga to begin at that moment. Cena went on to defeat The Samoan Bulldozer in an entertaining bout using an F-U.

McMahon’s Million Dollar Mania continued, as the WWE Chairman awarded one million of his own money to eight selected winners throughout the show. The highlight of this week’s contest was Vince presenting a mere sixteen dollars to a woman from North Carolina - in honor of Ric Flair’s World Title reigns.

Chris Jericho addressed his attack on Shawn Michaels last Monday and blamed the fans for the ambush, saying they would rather support a liar like Shawn Michaels than an honest man such as himself. Ric Flair made a surprising return to Raw and confronted Jericho before challenging him to a fight in the parking lot. As Flair and Y2J made their way to the back, Triple H stopped Jericho and exchanged words with the Intercontinental Champion. After having Flair ejected from the building, Vince McMahon signed a Hunter-Jericho bout as the evening’s main event. That match ended in a DQ win for The Cerebral Assassin when Lance Cade attacked him outside the ring. John Cena arrived for the save, but tension between he and Triple H allowed Jericho and Cade to lay out the babyfaces and stand tall as the broadcast closed.

In other news, Maria won a bikini contest featuring seven Divas and Jeff Hardy defeated Triple H’s new favorite wrestler, Carlito (who did not even receive a ring entrance) in a very good match.

I found the Million Dollar Mania segments less painful to watch this week, but the contest still interfered with what was otherwise a very solid edition of Raw. Four out of the five matches delivered and the bout I wished to see the least (Cryme Tyme-Holly/Rhodes) was basically a non-match.

I enjoyed the Flair/Jericho promo, but feel it was a little too soon for The Nature Boy’s comeback. It also would have been nice if some build had been put into a Jericho-Triple H television match, rather than simply throwing the bout on Raw unannounced.

Match Results: John Cena over Umaga via pinfall in a Street Fight … Jeff Hardy over Carlito via pinfall … World Tag Team Champions Hardcore Holly and Cody Rhodes over Cryme Tyme in a non-title match via Holly’s pinfall on JTG … Paul and Katie Lea Burchill over Mr. Kennedy and WWE Women’s Champion Mickie James via Katie Lea’s pinfall on Mickie … WWE Champion Triple H over Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho via disqualification following interference from Lance Cade.

Why in the blue hell is the draft before Night of Champions? Way to let everyone know that no main eventers are switching brands.

I do believe they said last night, that regardless of the draft results, all matches signed for Night of Champions will take place. Which implies so big names will change around. Plus alot of big names arent even on the card, so I hope this will help you from freaking out about lack of change come draft night.

Plus with smackdown soon going to have to stand alone, without the aid of ECW changes will need to be made to help that roster a great deal.

you wanna help Smackdown, send at least one big name over, either Hunter, Cena or actually Hardy... if your gonna move ECW to Monday nights DO NOT MOVE HBK, instead have him work some ECW guys and help them improve

I think they need to move Jericho and Hardy over to SD!.

Build up a 3 way feud with Edge or something.

Only problem is I don't think Jericho is gonna move, with this Cade move, unless they are going to use the fact he was trained by HBK on tv. I guess that would work, maybe they gonna use Kendrick and Danielson the same way? Build a little I hate HBK stable.
