This week's Smackdown featured the breakup of a tag team, Batista taking on Chavo Guerrero with Edge acting as guest referee, and more.
MVP opened the broadcast from his VIP Lounge, complaining that Smackdown management has failed to utilize his talents properly. General Manager Vicki Guerrero interrupted her disgruntled employee and - offended by MVP’s insinuations that he wished to be traded from her show during Monday night’s draft - placed the former U.S. Champion in a match against ECW Titleholder Kane later in the program. MVP lost that bout by countout after simply walking away from the match.
Vicki Guerrero called Charles Robinson into her office and accused the official of showing bias against her “Familia” in recent months. As punishment for these perceived partialities, Vicki ordered Robinson into a match with The Great Khali. The Punjabi Giant proceeded to destroy the veteran referee, who was carried from the ring on a stretcher.
Charles Robinson’s injuries would have a huge impact on the main event, as Vicki informed Batista that Robinson was the scheduled official for his match with Chavo Guerrero. The GM appointed her fiance, Edge as the replacement arbiter. The World Champion, of course, showed favoritism toward Chavo throughout the contest, even tripping Batista at one point. The Animal was eventually counted out of the ring after Bam Neely pulled him to the arena floor and Edge delivered a very quick ten-count. Post-match, Batista was assaulted by La Familia, an ambush highlighted by a Spear from Edge.
In other news, the team of Deuce and Domino officially split following a loss to Jesse and Festus. After brawling with his partner during the opening moments of the match, Deuce abandoned Domino and left him to wrestle the bout on his own. Deuce later returned to the ring and assaulted his former teammate.
Match Results: U.S. Champion Matt Hardy over Bam Neely via pinfall in a non-title match … Michelle McCool over Layla via submission … Vladimir Kozlov over Jamie Noble via pinfall … ECW Champion Kane over MVP via countout in a non-title match … The Great Khali over Charles Robinson when the referee stopped the match … Jesse and Festus over Deuce and Domino via Festus’ pinfall on Domino … Finlay over The Miz via pinfall … Chavo Guerrero over Batista via countout (Edge served as Special Guest Referee).
