One of the more surprising developments from last night’s WWE Draft was the switch in announcers that saw Jim Ross moving to SmackDown and Michael Cole moving to Raw. The look on JR’s face when the switch was announced made many, myself included, wonder whether he knew about the move ahead of time and what his feelings on the switch were.
Now we’ve got answers from the man himself thanks to a post today on J.R.’s Blog. Click “Read More” for some excerpts from the post, they’re interesting to say the least. Here’s Jim’s general reaction to the move: “I am not happy about this surprise development. I also contemplated calling it a career Monday night and not going to Houston to tape SD. After speaking with my wife and thinking on this matter until 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, I have decided to do the right thing for the fans who care and the talent who care and begin my new assignment.” Here’s Ross on when he learned that he’d be switched to SmackDown: “Many are speculating about when I learned of this development…the same time those of you were watching at home. I should have detected something with the demeanor of certain individuals either thru their plastic, poker faces or the perceived smirk that I thought I might have seen on some of their faces during the day.”
The rest of J.R.’s post deals with the WWE’s logic behind the move and a lot more. It’s definitely worth a read.
Posted by: Joe Gr at 06-24-2008 21:26 Jeez, this makes Smackdown look so bad. It's like nobody wants to go there. Posted by: Craig Ainsworth at 06-24-2008 22:20 i dont know why JR is so upset after the draft smackdown is now the A show Posted by: Phil Felice at 06-24-2008 22:35 It\'s not the vanity of being on \"the A show\" its the fact that he IS Monday night, and he\'s being broken up from The King. Posted by: Jamie Wellman, Kentucky at 06-25-2008 02:32 WOW! Was exactly what I said after watching the big surprises that happened last night on Raw. To see good old J.r. be drafted from Raw was shocking to me, because as other's have said on here, "J.r. is Mr. Monday night Raw." To no longer see J.R. on Monday night Raw will get hard getting used to seeing for quite a while after all the years on Monday night Raw, but I hope J.R. will stay on Smackdown at least, because J.R. and his greatness of a good man, a great person, a very intelligent mind of wrestling, and overall just a pleasure of hearing J.R. do what he does best, and no matter where J.R. will be, as long as J.R. is with the WWE then I'll be watching J.R. as long as he stays in the business. Then all the other shocking events where great wrestler's were drafted to Raw, as well as the Game HHH going to Smackdown and everyone else as well was completely shocking to see, and probably the biggest mix up and moves ever since I've seen in past drafts have such great impacts as those on Monday night Raw will have. I personally have a great opinion/idea of my own, and hopefully the WWE and/or someone close to the WWE will hear about my idea, because if the WWE is looking for high TV ratings as well as sold out events, and/or PPV's, here's what I think the WWE should seriously think about considering, and my wife thinks the same thing as well. After everyone settles into their new roles on either Raw, ECW, and Smackdown, I seriously think the WWE should do some thinking and making a GREAT BIG CHANGE in the way they do the live TV show events.I truly feel like to draw more people into watching the live TV shows, as well as making the PPV'S more interesting, I personally think Vince and the WWE should consider sceduling matches where when Raw is on, you have talent come over from ECW, and also Smackdown to challenge wrestler's on Monday night Raw. Then all the same goes for Smackdown and ECW, and that way by doing something like this it would give the audience in the arenas, as well as those that watch all three brands on live TV the opportunity to see different wrestler's challenging a wider variety of other wrestler's instead of the same exact person they just faced the prior week before. I say this because as a 36-Year old man, I've watched wrestling for as long as I can remember watching it on TV, going to arena's, and still watching it until the present. I enjoy the drama, the blessing to watch the wrestler's go out every week and giving it their all, and risking their lives to put the very best show/performance on for the audience to see. I know every move there is at the present, and all the great wrestling moves from some of the greatest wrestler's of the past because I love to watch wrestling, but I'm kind of getting tired of always watching the same people challenge the same exact person or tag team they just wrestled the week before, because after a while it begins to get boring, because either you have seen certain wrestler's challenge each other over and over every week and you know what's going to happen, or you have a general manager such as Smackdown'scurrent GM Vickie with a role where she makes matchs that you know the other wrestler will lose because of the overwhelming odds stacked against them because you have Edge and all the other's that run with Edge always ganging up on one wrestler, and that gets pretty boring after a while, because I'd rather see Edge have to face someone on Raw, and/or ECW, and let the WWE belt, the World Heavy Weight belt, and all belt's be challenged by all wrestler's instead of the same old ones you see holding the gold forever. If the WWE would do something like this, and have all the wrestler's challenging/wrestling each other such as Raw against Smackdown and ECW as well, and vice versa whenever it's Friday night when ECW and Raw have wrestler's come to Smackdown and challenge the Smackdown wrestler's as well. I personally thinkby doing this the WWE will have more people wanting to watch their shows every week, and instead of the ratings dropping, the ratings should start going through the ROOF! I love to watch the WWE, and I really wish someone would read this and pass this along to anyone that can bring this up to Mr. McMahon's attention because I feel like the viewer'swould love to see everyone challeging everyone instead of the same matchups every week, and make the WWE more interesting because this idea surely would bring the ratings up I think! I truly don't know if that was part of Monday night Raw's show last night, or if Mr. McMahon truly was injured for real, and if it was real, I hope and pray Vince will be ok and recover from anything he may have been hurt from. I also hope Batista will be ok, did you see those two spears between Edge and Batista, that was scary to see all that blood on Batista's head, and hopefully Melina will be ok as well, because I love to watch wrestling, but I don't ever want to see anyone get injured, because they bring so much excitement into my life by watching those wrestler's do some pretty amazing stunts just to make the people who watch the events say WOW! God bless all of the WWE wrestler's, their families, and everyone else involved in bringing the excitement into our living rooms every week and nights! Jamie Wellman, Kentucky Posted by: Edgar at 06-25-2008 07:37 Yeah i was more shocked to see JR change Shows than HHH but i am sure he will end up back in Raw sooner than later Posted by: I am me at 06-26-2008 14:48 I was shocked to see HHH go to smackdown. Rember a few years back he was drafted to smackdown. But that next week he was traded back to raw. But smackdown needs a ratings booster so I think thats y he is there. Plus smackdown dosent travel as much as raw does so he can spend more time with his new born kid. As for J.R. I think him being there will help out smackdown also. But michael cole being on raw the king is gonna have to carry him. Write Comment
