Previewing WWE Night of Champions

WWE presents Night of Champions tonight, live from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. Monday’s Draft has added intrigue to the championship-themed event (or thrown it into disarray, depending on your opinion), as both the WWE and World Titles currently reside on Smackdown following Triple H’s move to the blue brand.

Speaking of Hunter, his WWE Championship defense against John Cena has been eclipsed somewhat by the storyline of whether Raw can claim a Heavyweight Title, which is a shame considering this is the first time the two have locked up in a PPV singles match since WrestleMania XXII. However, the exact opposite can be said for the show’s second main event.

Edge will place his World Title on the line against Batista. This feud is beyond stale and the dual belt situation actually helps this bout and increases interest in the outcome. I expect Edge to retain here and for Triple H to drop his strap, setting up a top Smackdown program between these two over the World Championship.

Chris Jericho is also rumored to have an Intercontinental Title defense on the card, although no opponent has been named (nor is an I-C bout advertised on the WWE website). If such a match does indeed take place, I would consider Rey Mysterio, Kofi Kingston, and CM Punk top candidates to challenge Y2J. Trevor Murdoch may also be a distant possibility; although he was drafted to Smackdown last week, this is a tri-branded PPV and Murdoch could show up to play off of the Jericho-Lance Cade association. I do not expect Shawn Michaels to oppose Y2J, as I sincerely doubt WWE would offer a Michaels-Jericho bout unadvertised.

Mickie James vs. Katie Lea Burchill for the WWE Women’s Title

Matt Hardy vs. Chavo Guerrero for the U.S. Title

John Morrison and The Miz vs. Hornswoggle and Finlay for the WWE Tag Team Titles

Hardcore Holly and Cody Rhodes vs. Ted DiBiase Jr. and a mystery partner for the World Tag Team Titles

Kane vs. The Big Show vs. Mark Henry for the ECW Title

Chris Jericho vs. A mystery opponent for the Intercontinental Title (?)

Edge vs. Batista for the World Championship

Triple H vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship

This ppv gets a 5 out of 10 from me. I'd say it was the weekest ppv thus far this year. But it still had some good stuff. And did anybody notice the ring looking smaller than normal.

I geuss this means the I.C title is the prized possesion on RAW. Unless they push the Tag Titles more.
