WWE Considering Monthly Live Smackdowns
The News - Wrestling  |   Written by Adam Wilcox   |   Wednesday, 02 July 2008
Both Mike Johnson and Dave Scherer of PWInsider.com have posted that WWE is considering the possibility of holding live Smackdown broadcasts following the show’s move to MyNetworkTV in October. These shows would take place approximately once per month on the Fridays preceding a PPV event.

WWE appears serious in creating a more exciting atmosphere surrounding Smackdown to coincide with the network switch. This was made evident by the placement of WWE Champion Triple H, lead announcer Jim Ross, and others on the blue brand. Executive Producer Kevin Dunn has apparently opposed the idea of running monthly live Smackdowns, as this would extend the number of road days for his production team.

For what it’s worth, WWE has yet to announce any Smackdown tapings for October (SD is scheduled to debut on MyNetworkTV on October 3rd). The company is already planning to hold a live Smackdown program on April 3rd as part of WrestleMania XXV weekend.

The live SD concept is reportedly at least part of the reason for the delay in moving ECW television tapings to Monday nights.
