TNA Impact Report - 7/03/2008
The News - Wrestling  |   Written by Adam Wilcox   |   Friday, 04 July 2008
Last night's Impact featured the continuation of the World X Cup competition, World Champion Samoa Joe teaming up with Kevin Nash against Robert Roode and James Storm, and the return of an icon.

Skits aired throughout the show of three terrible blind dates arranged for Kurt Angle by Brother Ray. Kurt confronted Ray later in the show and the ex-Dudley attempted to make amends by introducing Angle to an attractive blonde woman. Kurt proceeded to berate the girl and brought out The Beautiful People, who brown bagged her. Karen Angle came to the lady’s defense, but found herself cornered by Kurt, Team 3D, Angelina Love, and Velvet Sky. AJ Styles hit the ring along with Rhino, Gail Kim, and ODB before any harm could be done to his friend.

The World X Cup Tournament continued with two singles matches, as Alex Kozlov squared off against Rey Bucanero, while Milano Collection A.T. opposed Curry Man. Both were very good matches, although the Kozlov-Bucanero encounter was far too short.

Robert Roode and James Storm - now using the team moniker Beer Money - attacked The Motor City Machineguns following a loss to the X Division duo and proceeded to whip not only the Guns, but also Don West and ring announcer Dave Penzer, with leather straps. Jim Cornette punished Storm and Roode by placing them into a main event tag bout against Kevin Nash and TNA Champion Samoa Joe. The latter squad were a reluctant team to say the least, but managed to earn a victory when Joe drove Roode to the mat with a Muscle Buster. As Joe and Nash argued following their win, the lights in the arena went out and Sting was shown staring at the two babyfaces from the rafters.

In other news, Team 3D accepted a challenge from Rhino for a six-man tag team match at Victory Road pitting Ray, Devon, and Kurt Angle against Rhino, AJ Styles, and Christian Cage. The fans will decide between Full Metal Mayhem or a Tables Match as stipulations for the bout.

This was a decent enough show featuring some solid in-ring action, although jobbing James Storm and Robert Roode twice on the same evening they are presented with a new team name seems like a counterproductive way to get them over (especially considering the fact that they are challenging for the Tag Team Titles at the next PPV). These two have a lot of potential together and I only hope they do not become lost in the company’s mid-card picture.

I also feel more focus should have been placed on the X Cup competition - this could have been easily accomplished by leaving out all of the Kurt Angle/Team 3D blind date silliness.

Match Results: The Motor City Machineguns over Beer Money via Alex Shelley’s pinfall on James Storm … Moose over Roxxi Laveaux via pinfall in a Bimbo Brawl … Rey Bucanero over Alex Kozlov via pinfall in a World X Cup Tournament match … Milano Collection A.T. over Curry Man via pinfall in a World X Cup Tournament match … Taylor over Raisha Saeed via pinfall to earn a Twenty-five Thousand Dollar Knockout Title Match on next week’s Impact … TNA World Champion Samoa Joe and Kevin Nash over Beer Money via Joe’s pinfall on Robert Roode.
