Last night's Impact - the go-home broadcast heading into Sunday's Victory Road PPV - featured another Abyss return, a title change, and more.
The show began almost immediately with Beer Money Inc.’s Robert Roode taking on LAX member Homicide in a Gang Car Fight (basically a Parking Lot Brawl with both men being surrounded by parked cars). The two tag team wrestlers used various objects to assault each other until a masked individual interfered and attacked Homicide. After the man revealed himself to be (I'll bet you’ll never guess) James Storm, Beer Money Inc. proceeded to drag the co-Tag Champion inside the arena and to the ring. As Storm whipped Homicide with a leather strap, Hernandez arrived to make the save for his partner.
The World X Cup Tournament continued, as Team International’s Doug Williams scored a victory over Masato Yoshino of Team Japan using a very impressive roll-up into a German suplex, while Team TNA Captain Kaz scored a victory for his squad by defeating the leader of Team Mexico, Ultimo Guerrero. Rounds Three and Four of the tourney are scheduled to take place at this Sunday’s Victory Road PPV, featuring a twelve-man elimination tag team match, as well as the Ultimate X event.
Knockout Champion Awesome Kong placed her title along with twenty-five thousand dollars on the line against Taylor Wilde, who earned a shot at Kong via a victory over Raisha Saeed last week. Wilde made good on her opportunity by defeating the Awesome one after ducking a punch and rolling up Kong for the three-count. Jim Cornette later announced that Taylor would defend her newly won belt against Kong at Victory Road. I hope that TNA is somehow able to keep Wilde strong if the plan is to return the strap to Kong this Sunday. Taylor appears to be very over with fans and it would be a shame for weeks of Twenty-five Thousand Dollar Challenges to go to waste.
Booker T invited World Champion Samoa Joe to the ring and “apologized” for what he perceives will occur at Victory Road. Joe responded by vowing to humble Booker in front of his wife and hometown crowd in Houston, Texas. As the two exchanged words, the lights went out and Sting’s music played (which was somewhat of a theme throughout the night). The Stinger came to the ring and announced that he would be at the PPV, but refused to provide a straight answer in regard to his intentions.
In other news, Abyss returned (again) and attacked Tomko following a six-man tag team bout. Hopefully, a feud with The Monster will rejuvenate Tomko, who has seemingly been floundering over the past few months after enjoying a stint as one of TNA's top heels in early-2008.
