Last night's Smackdown featured the show-long wedding reception of Edge and Vicki Guerrero. However, the happy occasion was ruined by Triple H at the conclusion of the evening.
The broadcast opened with footage of Edge and General Manager Vicki Guerrero’s wedding ceremony. The newlyweds then proceeded to hold their reception on the entrance ramp throughout the entire show while constantly interfering in the night’s events, as Edge appointed himself guest referee for Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder’s tag team match and Vicki placed herself in a bout against Cherry after the former valet was assaulted by Natalya. The couple’s happiness was short-lived, however, as WWE Champion Triple H arrived during the final segment of the program and showed a video of Edge making out with wedding planner Alicia Fox. The show closed with Vicki screaming at her new husband and telling Edge she hated him.
Vicki signed Matt and Jeff Hardy to wrestle each other, a match which ended in a no-contest when La Famila hit the ring and attacked both brothers. It’s hard to understand why WWE would throw a Matt-Jeff bout - certainly a future PPV draw - on free television with no angle.
In other news, Brian Kendrick - accompanied by a new bodyguard named Ezekiel - returned to Smackdown as a heel and Umaga scored a surprise clean victory over Mr. Kennedy.
This was an entertaining edition of Smackdown, although the Edge-Vicki breakup segment dragged on too long. However, the split does provide an aura of unpredictability regarding the show’s direction following this Sunday’s Great American Bash event and could even affect the Hunter-Edge PPV bout itself (Which can only be a good thing, as the limited interaction between the two has hurt the build for that match).
