The News - Mixed Martial Arts  |   Written by Marshall Bowen   |   Thursday, 24 July 2008
Fresh off what was widely considered a highly successful debut with it's July 19th Banned event, Affliction has now has an idea for it's nect event including a blockbuster main fight according to MMAmania.com.

The next as of yet unnamed event for the company will take place on October 11th and is set to take place in UFC's home turf, Las Vegas. The event is slated to headlined by a heavyweight bout pitting former UFC Heavyweight Champion Adrei Arlovski against former Pride Champion Fedor Emelianenko. A dream match for most hardcore fans.

The only thing not known yet is how the UFC will counter this event, especially taking place in it's home turf.

This makes no sense! Why does Arlovski get a shot before Barnett? Arlovski had a lot more trouble finishing his opponent than Barnett did finishing his. Arlovski has a losing record against Tim Sylvia who lost in 36 seconds to Fedor. Barnett on the other hand has a win over the UFC champ - Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera, he has beaten Randy Couture, he has beaten Mark Hunt, and many other very good fighters in Pride. Also he's the best talker in MMA today bar none. He is infinitely more marketable than Arlovski. Women like Barnett's looks, guys like his interviews, he's American - and he's losing out on getting the title shot to a Russian who can barely speak any English and thinks wearing plastic Dracula fangs is cool- something I outgrew when I was five. The only possible reason has to be that Fedor is purposely ducking Barnett. How else can you explain that Barnett, who was consistently ranked in the top 3 heavyweights in the world during 2006 and 2007 never got one shot at Fedor? I'm not suggesting that Affliction should push guys mostly for how marketable they are (like Elite XC does with Kimbo), but come on, Barnett is so much more marketable than a Russian who can barely speak English AND has an inferior fighting record compared to Josh Barnett.

BTW, I heard on your show that Barnett was talking in his post fight interview like a rapper. Listen to it again if oyu have it recorded. He said in his regular speaking voice "I'm willing to fight anyone who's dumb enough to sign on the dotted line. All four of them are badasses but they ain't me." I certainly didn't see him flashing any gang signs either, I don't know where you saw that. Then again, I don't know any gang signs, so I probably wouldn't recognize one if I saw it. I know the Four Horsemen sign - that's about it though.

I agree that Barnett should get the next shot at Fedor. I think Arlovski got it because he is "fresh" out the UFC and very well known (and more marketable)to US audiences. Still, it is a very interesting fight.

It does not matter how many times fedor destroys his opponents we all ways feel like there’s someone who can beat him. We just need to accept the fact that the guy is a machine and anybody he fights looks like an amateur next to him. Fedor has never been hurt or been close to losing.
Oh ya the 1 lose that he has on his record. The fight was stop because of a cut, which should have been an illegal elbow. Anyway bring on who ever you want god bless them.

Listen up FEDOR WILL NOT LOSE to any fighter that is currently fighting in any division. He's too damn good. Watch the videos there is no fighter that pound for pound even could take the force and power of a fighter like Fedor. He will continue to kick ass no matter what sorry ARLOVSKI YOUR NEXT AND ALREADY OVER IN MY MIND
